About the Role

As a Trustee, you will play a key role in shaping our strategy, ensuring strong governance, and supporting the organisation's long‑term sustainability. You will work collaboratively with fellow Board members and the senior team to guide our direction and champion our values.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing strategic oversight and constructive challenge

About the Role

The Volunteer Charity Manager will provide overall leadership, coordination and operational oversight for the charity, working closely with the Board of Trustees, staff team and volunteers to strengthen the delivery of WOFM’s mission and future development.

About You

Time Commitment & Availability

This is a flexible volunteer leadership role of approximately 20 hours per week, which we are happy to shape around the right person’s other commitments. We would suggest thinking of it as roughly 4 hours a day across a typical working week but how those hours are arranged is genuinely negotiable, and we are open to discussing an arrangement that works for you.

The role is hybrid, combining:

• remote and flexible working from home

• attendance at outreach activities, particularly on Wednesday afternoons for daytime drop-in sessions and Friday evenings for evening outreach

• meetings and occasional events in East London (typically evenings and occasional weekends)

• trustee and board meetings on a regular scheduled cycle

Reasonable, pre-agreed out-of-pocket expenses actually incurred in carrying out the role (for example, travel) will be reimbursed. Ideally, we are seeking someone able to commit to the role for a minimum of 6 months to support continuity and sustainable growth.

Support & Future Development

The successful candidate will work alongside a committed Board of Trustees, staff team and volunteers who are passionate about the mission of the charity.

While this is currently a voluntary role, the Board is actively working to secure funding with the aim of creating paid leadership and operational roles in the future. We cannot guarantee if or when such funding will be confirmed, and any future paid appointment would be made through a fair and open recruitment process. That said, someone who grows with WOFM and comes to know the organisation well would be well placed to be considered as those opportunities arise.

What You'll Be Doing

• Welcoming visitors and helping create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere.
• Supporting disabled people and their families to take part in activities with confidence.
• Getting involved in arts, crafts, games, and creative activities.
• Helping set up and pack down event spaces.
• Running activity stalls, information stands, or family-friendly games.
• Sharing information about Sense and the support we provide.
• Assisting with fundraising activities at community events.
• Working alongside staff and fellow volunteers to ensure events run smoothly.

We'll regularly share upcoming volunteering opportunities with you, and you can choose the events that match your interests, location, and availability.

Who We're Looking For

You don't need previous experience—just enthusiasm and a willingness to get involved.

This role is ideal for students and community-minded individuals who are:

• Friendly, approachable, and confident engaging with people from all backgrounds.
• Passionate about making a positive impact.
• Reliable and committed to events they sign up for.
• Comfortable working as part of a team.
• Flexible and happy to support with a variety of activities.

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

Role summary

To work as part of a busy team, assisting the Donation Centre team to maximise income by supporting Drivers on deliveries and collections in the shops and some processing of stock. This role requires a level of fitness. 

Main duties of the role

• Accompany Drivers on deliveries and support with moving of cages and stock to and from the shops

• Assist in the shops with moving of stock and removal of unwanted items

• To act as Banksman when the drivers when moving vehicles in tight areas, to ensure that the vehicle is moved safely

• If required help with the sorting and assigning of donations to shops

• Be aware of and adhere to health & safety regulations at all times

Training & supervision

• Health and safety training is mandatory (repeated annually), some of which is online

• Training on site at Donation Centre for handling of stock and cages.

• Banksman training will be given

Experience & qualifications required

• Some customer services/warehouse environment experience would be advantageous

• Must have good communications skills to be able to explain trading standards regulations in a professional and polite manner when goods cannot be accepted

• Experience of having worked in similar role
