This is an excellent opportunity for someone aiming for a career in managing and developing a busy urban Nature Reserve, working with committed local volunteers and groups. 

There is a travel and training allowance of £1500 for this role which can be tailored to the specific needs and interests of the individual. 

The role will be managed and supported by two experienced team colleagues as well as having access to other areas of a vibrant and busy organisation. 
 

Main purpose of Role:
An opportunity to gain work experience and training in practical and applied conservation work with a Wildlife Trust in beautiful Herefordshire. This role is unique in offering the postholder the opportunity to work with the ‘Restoring Bartonsham Meadows’ Project, a National Lottery Heritage Funded project run by Herefordshire Wildlife Trust.

Training will be provided in many aspects of reserve management and community engagement and can include the gaining of qualifications in relevant skills according to the candidate’s background.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Being part of a team that identifies suitable homes for cats in care
• Providing potential adopters with basic cat care information
• Completing homing questionnaires with potential adopters ‘virtually’, as well as face to face, which may involve visiting the homes of potential adopters
• Carrying out follow up communications if required
• Using online map searches to match cats and kittens to new homes

Time expectation

Our cat match volunteers usually spend 2 to 3 hours a week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

Some of the tasks and responsibilities include:

•  Supporting the Horizons and Onyx teams with raising awareness of their services across the Bedford area
•  Liaising and networking with community partners we work with such as GPs, Pharmacies, Community Centres and local businesses
• Attending and supporting promotion of services at local community events and Outreach projects

Our amazing team of volunteers help us run over 100 shops across England and Wales.  Every donated item that you sort, prepare and sell helps to raise vital funds to support us in our mission to make sure no one, no matter how complex their disabilities, is isolated, left out, or unable to fulfil their potential. Our shops are at the heart of local communities – sharing the work of Sense, and helping to secure support for our life changing work.

What your role will involve

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

We are looking for a Volunteer Marketing Automation Specialist to help build and manage the CIC’s digital systems that connect campaigns, content, and community engagement.

You will design and maintain automated workflows, supporter journeys, and tools that help people take meaningful action while respecting trauma-informed and safeguarding principles. This role works closely with the Digital Marketing Director and Marketing team to ensure digital systems are secure, ethical, and effective.

The role focuses on marketing automation, workflow design, and improving supporter experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain automated workflows connecting email, forms, CRM, and campaigns
• Build supporter journeys for volunteering, fundraising, membership, and engagement
• Develop logic-based workflows (triggers, segmentation, conditional pathways)
• Integrate digital platforms and ensure smooth, GDPR-compliant operations
• Monitor performance, optimise systems, and document processes clearly
• Work with campaign teams and copywriters to align messaging and automation
• Identify inefficiencies, propose improvements, and flag potential risks

• Ensure you have all you need in place to foster the cat(s) in your care, for example equipment and food
• Cover all your foster cats’ expenses and agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• Provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you 

• A stable, safe and compassionate environment in your home or in a purpose-built pen in your garden provided by us
• Enrich the cats’ experience in care including play, exercise and appropriate handling/interaction
• A willingness to complete some training in order to provide high standards of cat welfare
• Introduce cats to prospective adopters so they can find their forever home

Time expectation

Our volunteer fosterers usually spend around one and a half hours per day (around 10 to 13 hours per week) in this role, but this might vary depending on the number of cats or kittens in care.
