Role Overview

We are seeking a creative, passionate, and digitally savvy Social Media Volunteer to amplify our voice online. You will help tell powerful stories, build meaningful connections with supporters, and drive engagement that translates into real-world impact for vulnerable communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and manage engaging content (images, reels, carousels, stories, and short videos) across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, and X (Twitter).
• Grow our online presence, increase followers, and boost community engagement.
• Create monthly content calendars aligned with our programs and fundraising campaigns.
• Identify trending topics and opportunities to raise awareness about vulnerable groups.
• Collaborate with the team to produce authentic, impactful storytelling content (with full consent and safeguarding standards).
• Monitor performance analytics and provide simple monthly reports.
• Support fundraising drives and donor engagement initiatives.

Who We’re Looking For

• Deep passion for social impact and supporting vulnerable communities.
• Proven experience or strong skills in social media management and content creation.
• Excellent writing and communication skills in English (knowledge of other languages is an advantage).
• Proficiency with content tools such as Canva, CapCut, or similar apps.
• Self-motivated, creative, and able to deliver consistently with minimal supervision.
• Understanding of social media best practices, algorithms, and analytics.

Your demos will play a critical role in building trust, awareness, and adoption across Africa and beyond.

It is amazing how much difference you could make to your local group by providing IT support, either remotely or in person. Role Summary

As a Graphic Designer, you will be instrumental in shaping the visual identity of Roots Academy Canada. From designing educational resources and social media assets to crafting digital campaigns and event materials, your work will ensure our content reflects ihsan (excellence), clarity, and spiritual depth. You will help bring Islamic learning to life through purposeful, polished, and impactful design.

Key tasks

• Design Development: Create visually compelling graphics for use across social media, email, web, presentations, and print

• Brand Consistency: Ensure all visual materials align with Roots Academy’s brand guidelines and Islamic values

• Content Support: Collaborate with the social media and education teams to translate ideas and scripts into polished, engaging visuals

• Campaign Assets: Support event and program launches by designing posters, promo kits, and other visual collateral

• Template Creation: Build easy-to-edit templates for internal teams to use (e.g., Canva or Google Slides)

• Revision & Feedback: Adapt designs based on team feedback while maintaining efficiency and quality

• Trend Awareness: Stay up to date on design and content trends, especially within the faith-based and youth development space

• Project Management: Maintain organized design files and deliver work in a timely manner

What we’re looking for

• Strong design portfolio demonstrating creativity, clarity, and alignment with brand guidelines

• Experience using tools like Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or Figma

• Attention to detail and a strong sense of layout, typography, and visual hierarchy

• Ability to take direction while contributing creative input

• A deep understanding of Islamic values and visual modesty in design

• Experience designing for social media platforms (Instagram, YouTube, TikTok)

• Excellent communication and time-management skills

Please note this is an unpaid volunteer position. 

Volunteers are entitled to claim expenses incurred for food, travel and equipment, in line with our Expenses policy. 

The Coroners' Courts Support Service (CCSS) is a registered Charity whose trained volunteers give emotional and practical support to bereaved families and other witnesses attending an inquest.

This opportunity will be at both Crook and Durham so volunteers need to be willing to volunteer at both sites.

We need volunteers to provide emotional support and practical help to bereaved families, witnesses and others attending Inquests at Coroners' Court. Our volunteers at court also provide help and assistance to the Coroners' Officers, as and when required.

We are looking for reliable, supportive people with excellent communication skills. A mature and calm attitude is needed in order to be able to talk to people during a sometimes bewildering and emotional experience. Volunteers must be willing to undergo a period of observations and shadowing, as well as attend a 3 day training course. A minimum commitment of one day (9:00am - 5:00pm) per fortnight is asked for. Training and mentoring is provided and travel expenses to the court are reimbursed.

New volunteers should possess good communication and listening skills and the ability to empathise with people they support.
