Photographer / Filmmaker - VOLUNTEER ROLE
Help us bring SUNSHINE to life through powerful images, film clips, and human stories
London is one of the most electric, fast-paced cities on Earth. Yet beneath the energy, a quiet crisis is unfolding.
Across the city, thousands of adults experience chronic loneliness and isolation every single day.
SUNSHINE exists to change that — boldly, joyfully, and unapologetically.
We bring positivity, warmth, and human connection into the lives of people who need it most.
To raise our profile, tell our story, and reach those who feel alone, we need powerful visuals. And that’s where you come in.
We’re looking for Photographer / Filmmaker Volunteers to help us capture the heart of SUNSHINE — our people, our programmes, our impact, and the lived experiences of those facing loneliness.
What You’ll Do
1. Capture SUNSHINE Across London
Head out into the city — parks, streets, markets, neighbourhoods — to capture photos and film clips of loneliness or positive human connection that reflect London’s diversity, energy, and humanity.
2. Document Our Activities
Attend SUNSHINE Programmes and events to photograph or film real moments of connection, joy, courage, and community.
3. Build Our Visual Library
Create a unique, high-quality collection of images and short video clips that we can use across our website, publicity materials, social media, and fundraising campaigns.
4. Tell Human Stories
Help us visually communicate the reality of loneliness — and the hope, positivity, and transformation that SUNSHINE brings.
5. Support Our Digital Presence
Work with our marketing volunteers to produce short clips, reels, TikToks, and social-ready visuals that raise our profile and inspire people to join us.
Who We Need
1. A Visual Storyteller
You see emotion, humanity, and narrative through a lens — and you know how to capture it.
2. Creative & Curious
You enjoy exploring London, finding interesting moments, and experimenting with angles, light, and movement.
3. Reliable & Independent
You’re comfortable working solo, planning your shoots, and delivering high-quality content consistently.
4. Empathetic & Purpose-Driven
You believe visuals can change hearts, shift stigma, and help lonely people feel seen and supported.
5. Tech-Friendly
Whether you use a DSLR, mirrorless camera, or smartphone, you know how to capture strong images or clips and edit them into something beautiful.
Why Volunteer With SUNSHINE?
1. Creative Freedom
No corporate restrictions. You can experiment, explore, and create bold, bright, human-centred visuals.
2. Portfolio-Ready Work
Your photos and videos will be used across a fast-growing London charity — a powerful addition to any creative portfolio.
3. Real Human Impact
Your visuals will help isolated individuals discover SUNSHINE, feel safe enough to join us, and take their first step out of loneliness.
4. Supportive Team
You’ll collaborate with our Founder and creative volunteers who value your talent and vision.
5. Pure Joy
You’ll capture floating bubbles, warm smiles, shared laughter, and moments of connection that genuinely change lives.
Ready to Help Us Tell London’s Most Important Human Story?
If you want to use your photography or filmmaking skills to help lonely people feel seen, supported, and connected, we’d love to meet you.
Let’s make something beautiful together.

The possible tasks included below are not exhaustive or rigidly defined; an exact role profile is dependent on the skill set of individual applicants. An average day might see you talking to students in a camp to tell them about a new class, or supporting the writing of a grant proposal. Tasks could loosely fall within 4 key areas:
Programmes
Supporting programme coordinators in maintaining the day to day running of their activities with the Youth or Adult Education Programmes
Supporting our children’s teachers or workshop facilitators in the planning or delivery of classes or excursions outside of camps
Communicating key messages about our programmes to our students in camps

Be honest and transparent, being able to give and receive feedback in the most straightforward way possible
Care for people; the interests of the people we work with should always be your first concern

In certain periods of the year, demand is extremely high, and the shared houses might be full. If you have the means to pay for your own accommodation, please let us know. We would still be happy to host you if space is available. However, in a situation where the shared houses are full, this would allow us to offer an opportunity to someone that cannot afford to pay rent.
Looking for an internship?
If, because of your degree or for any other reason, you would like to have your period at Second Tree credited as an internship, just apply to the vacancy that you’re interested in and mention this. Use your expertise to shape education, influence communities, and grow as a leader
Roles available at colleges across Shipley
Are you a business leader or corporate professional looking to make a meaningful impact in your community?
By becoming a volunteer governor at a further education (FE) or sixth form college, you’ll help shape the strategic direction of an organisation that transforms lives through education and skills; all while strengthening your own governance experience and leadership credentials.
Why it’s relevant to professionals like you
Further education colleges train over 1.6 million learners annually, preparing the skilled workforce that keeps our economy moving – from engineers and IT specialists to healthcare professionals and construction experts.
As a college governor, you’ll sit on the board of an FE institution (and registered charity), where your insight into strategy, risk, people, or finance will have a direct impact on how public funds are spent, how performance is measured, and how learners are supported to succeed.
This is an opportunity to:
Apply your corporate skills in a leadership role
Gain board-level experience and enhance your CV
Contribute to local economic growth and social mobility
Support a vital sector during a time of transformation
What will you be doing?
As part of a governing board, you’ll:
Set strategic direction, helping to define the college’s mission and goals
Hold leadership to account, monitoring finances, performance, and outcomes
Ensure governance excellence, making decisions in the best interests of learners and stakeholders
Act as a charity trustee, ensuring financial sustainability and legal compliance
You’ll also engage with senior leaders and external stakeholders, including local employers, regulators, and community partners.
Who are we looking for?
We welcome professionals from a broad range of sectors, including but not limited to:
Finance, Audit & Risk
HR, People & Culture
Strategy, Transformation & Operations
Technology, AI & Digital
Legal, Governance & Compliance
Marketing, PR & Communications
Education, apprenticeships, or vocational courses
What matters most is your strategic thinking, commercial awareness, and commitment to helping others succeed.
Prior education experience is not required. Full induction and training are provided, with access to DfE-funded development and peer mentoring where needed.
Time commitment
Expect to give approximately 1–2 days per month, including:
Attending board and committee meetings (in person or remote)
Reading papers and preparing questions
Participating in training and occasional college visits
The time commitment is manageable alongside a full-time role – and many employers actively support staff to take on governance roles as part of their professional development.
Where you’ll be needed
Some colleges offer remote governance and meetings take place online. This may suit you best, or we may suggest a role where you volunteer on a hybrid basis at a college within a reasonable distance from you. We are recruiting governors for colleges across England, with new opportunities added regularly.
What’s in it for you?
This role offers the opportunity to:
Enhance your board-level and governance experience
Develop strategic oversight and leadership outside your day-to-day role
Expand your professional network
Give back in a way that creates long-term, measurable impact
