The Opportunity

As Chair, you will:

• Provide strategic leadership to the organisation and the Board, ensuring our charitable purposes deliver greater public benefit
• Chair and facilitate Board meetings, direct policymaking, and monitor implementation of decisions
• Represent the Trust at events and strategic meetings, acting as an ambassador and spokesperson
• Work closely with the Chief Executive to plan meetings, set agendas, and develop the Board
• Oversee induction, training, appraisal, and succession planning for trustees
• Address any conflict within the Board and the organisation 

What We’re Looking For

We seek an individual with:

• Proven experience in leading an effective charity board
• Appreciation of the values, purpose, and operational model of Burdett
• Understanding of best practice in grant making
• Ability to oversee a strategic investment portfolio
• Strong interest and understanding of health and social care, nationally and internationally
• Effective ambassadorial skills and the ability to utilise relevant networks 

Commitment & Remuneration

• Voluntary position; reasonable trustee expenses (e.g., travel) can be claimed
• Expected time commitment: 2–3 days per month (may fluctuate)
• Four full Board meetings per year, held in person in central London
• Regular meetings with the Chief Executive and ongoing communications with trustees

We are looking for a visionary, action-oriented volunteer to take the lead on creating and developing our frontline services, high-impact projects, and game-changing campaigns.

Lead the MINDSET Mission

Deaf Role Models share their lived experience of deafness with deaf children and their families, showing what is possible. This volunteering will take place at different types of events and activities, either in-person or online. More than 90% of deaf children are born to hearing parents who might know very little about deafness. Being able to meet deaf adults can give them a deeper understanding of the different choices and possibilities for their child.

About you

• Aged 18 years and over

• Lived experience of deafness – it doesn’t matter what level of deafness you have, or how you communicate

• Willing to share your personal experiences of deafness with a range of audiences including families of deaf children and young people in different community venues

• Prepared to answer questions that families and/or children may have about your experiences

What you will do

• You may talk about topics such as your family life, initial diagnosis, communication, education, interests and hobbies, career and challenges

• Some assignments may include additional tasks; for example, leading an ice breaker

• Create and adapt your talk to meet the needs of the audience or family

• Be a positive role model and present us in a positive way

• Be responsible for the quality of your volunteering and for yourself as part of a team

• Help families to think about the different choices and possibilities for their child, recognising that there isn’t going to be one ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ approach for all deaf children

When & Where

• Event locations and times will vary. You can choose events that suit your availability.
• Currently looking for volunteers in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Somerset, Wiltshire, Edinburgh, Central Scotland, and Manchester.

Bright Futures UK is looking for passionate and knowledgeable Key Stage 3 Science tutors to provide educational support and a fun, safe learning environment for young people living with serious illnesses.

Run tutoring sessions online to support a young person for one hour per week 

Offer subject area knowledge and expertise related to KS3 Science

1. Subject Knowledge: Strong understanding of KS3 Science concepts and specifications.
2. Teaching Skills: Ability to explain complex ideas in a clear and engaging way.

4. Reliability: Consistent availability for the agreed-upon time commitment.
5. Adherence to safeguarding policies and report concerns to the BFUK Team

As our Social Media & Communications Volunteer, you’ll help bring our mission to life across digital platforms. Working closely with our Digital Marketing Officer and the wider Fundraising & Communications team, you will support the creation of content that:

• Raises awareness of our work and impact
• Supports fundraising and community engagement
• Strengthens our online presence, especially during our period of transition
• Taps into trends, conversation moments, and creative formats

This is a varied and dynamic role — perfect for someone who thrives on creativity, enjoys experimenting with content, and wants hands on experience in the charity sector.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Assisting with planning, creating and scheduling engaging social media content across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and LinkedIn
• Work with the team to develop creative, trend-aware content and campaigns that boosts engagement and attracts new followers
• Keep track of relevant awareness days/weeks and help develop content around them 
• Assist with research for content generation and storytelling ideas 
• Create and edit short-form video content for social media, campaigns, and fundraising moments 
• Adapt content into formats suitable for different platforms and different audiences, including young people 
• Repurpose existing content into new formats (e.g., infographics, Reels, stories, carousels, blog snippets) 
• Maintain brand consistency across all visual and written output 
• Capture live content at events (including supporting and cheering on our challenge event runners!)
• Any other tasks that would be deemed suitable within this role as directed.

What We’re Looking For:

• Warm, welcoming and friendly person

• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Interested in and experienced with video editing, content creation across social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and Tiktok

We're keen to hear from you if you'd like to share your experiences as a blind and partially sighted person and help build a world which understands the impact of living with sight loss.

In this role, you will be:

• Delivering talks to groups of sighted people about your lived experience of sight loss to challenge their perceptions and behaviours. Audiences will vary but may include local businesses, community, faith and voluntary groups.

• Making links with your own existing groups and networks in your local community that may want to be involved in reducing barriers to blind and partially sighted people.
• Building relationships with people or local businesses you know.
• Taking part in and sharing information about specific campaigns and initiatives to help remove barriers to blind and partially sighted people.
• Delivering talks on behalf of RNIB’s Social Action Team.

Join our amazing volunteer team to raise awareness of sight loss and RNIB services at local events. You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to local service providers and community groups. You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a world without barriers.

What you’ll be doing:
• Giving talks to groups of people to raise awareness of sight loss in your local community by sharing your story to audiences, for example, local businesses, community and voluntary groups.
• Delivering Talks to raise awareness of RNIB services as a trusted source of support for blind and partially sighted people

• Representing RNIB as an Ambassador for the Community Connection service
