About Katherine Low Settlement

Katherine Low Settlement is a busy, local charity that has been serving Battersea and the wider Wandsworth community since 1924. We are dedicated to building stronger communities and enable people to challenge and find ways out of poverty and isolation. We run a range of our own community services to support local older people and children, young people, and their families from refugee communities. We campaign for social change. We incubate and support other charities and social businesses to thrive. Each week we work with 30+ charities and community groups supporting more than 1,000 people every year.

About the Role

KLS is looking for a Treasurer Trustee to bring financial insight, sound judgement and strategic challenge to our Board. This is a rewarding opportunity to help a community-focused charity stay financially strong, well governed and able to make a lasting difference for people in Battersea and Wandsworth.

What You’ll Do

• Guide Board-level understanding of KLS’s finances, risks and long-term sustainability.

• Chair the Finance Committee and help turn financial information into clear, confident decisions.

• Provide Board level scrutiny of budgets, management accounts, reserves, cash flow, controls and annual accounts, including reviewing income and expenditure, monitoring restricted and unrestricted funds, and supporting year-end reporting.

• Provide constructive challenge on funding, strategy, financial planning and major commitments, including grant budgets, funder reporting, reserves planning and financial sustainability.

• Champion transparent, ethical financial stewardship that supports safe, effective services.

• Contribute to wider discussions on strategy, governance, safeguarding and organisational sustainability, in a more general trustee capacity.

Who We’re Looking For

• Financial confidence, curiosity and clarity, with the ability to read the numbers and ask thoughtful questions.

• Ability to help others engage with finance in a practical, accessible way.

• Experience in finance, accountancy, audit, risk, grant management, charity finance, trusteeship or the voluntary and community sector.

• Understanding of charity finance, including monitoring restricted funds, reviewing management accounts, supporting reserves policy, preparing for audit or independent examination, and helping trustees understand financial risks.

• A professional accountancy qualification is welcome but not essential if you have broader financial leadership or governance experience. 

• Previous trustee experience is desirable but not essential.

As a charity, our Trustees are the governing body of our organisation. They fulfil a vital role and help ensure that the Mayor’s Fund for London delivers on its mission and purpose and uses its resources effectively. Much more than that, they help set and shape the strategy of the Charity, they live its values, and they are ambassadors on its behalf.

We are currently recruiting for 3 new Trustees.

As a charity that supports and champions better outcomes for young people in London, we are especially interested in recruiting some new trustees aged 24-30. This may be through direct experience of the challenges young Londoners are facing, through experience and knowledge of our programmes and activities, and/or a desire to take a step into a strategic governance role with a charity whose mission matters to them.

The Board already has a wide range of diversity, experience and expertise, and we are keen to continue to broaden that experience through this recruitment. In particular, we are looking for some knowledge in:

•  Data and Technology 
•  Funding and Income Generation 

At the Mayor’s Fund for London, we want our Trustees to feel part of our team. To bring insights and experience into our organisation, and to be prepared to work collaboratively with staff and young people, to shape opportunities for the future.

The Board meets four times per year (March, July, September, and December), and has one sub-committee covering Finance, Audit and Risk (FAR), which meets two weeks before the Board. Trustees are expected to attend all full Board meetings, and those nominated to join the FAR Committee are expected to attend those meetings too. All of our meetings are currently online to allow flexibility, and there is an expectation that, from time to time, Trustees will engage with the staff team and be present at our events.

Our volunteers are vital members of the Citizens Advice Barnet team.

Most of the work we do is carried out by highly trained volunteers. We very much value the work of all our volunteers, who strongly uphold the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice service.

After successfully completing the initial training, you will:

• assist clients on reception,
• call back clients who have been referred to us,
• give advice via email,
• speak to clients on our helpline,
• support clients in person at drop-in advice sessions throughout Barnet,
• undertake administrative tasks supporting the advice team.

Purpose of the role

• help provide an effective and efficient advice service to members of the public,
• help influence government and other organisations by collecting evidence of the effect of their actions on the lives of clients for the Research & Campaigns team to use,

Upcycle Africa is seeking a passionate and results-driven Digital Fundraising & Partnerships Officer to support our mission of empowering communities through sustainability, innovation, education, and social entrepreneurship. The volunteer will help identify funding opportunities, develop partnership strategies, engage potential donors, and support grant application processes.

Responsibilities

• Research and identify grant, sponsorship, and funding opportunities.
• Support proposal and concept note development.
• Build relationships with potential donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
• Assist in creating fundraising campaigns and donor engagement strategies.
• Maintain a database of potential partners and funding opportunities.
• Contribute to long-term resource mobilization plans.

• Work with the founders to gather required documentation at each stage

• You have hands-on experience with EU or Spanish public funding — ACCIÓ, ENISA, ICEX, EIC, or equivalent programmes
• You are a strong, structured writer who knows how to make an evaluator's job easy
• You understand the mechanics of grants, soft loans, and repayable advances
• You are detail-oriented and take real ownership of deadlines and submission requirements
• You are comfortable working async with a fast-moving early-stage team
• Bonus: you have written grants specifically in sustainable tourism or hospitality innovation
