About INQUEST
INQUEST is the only charity in England and Wales providing expertise on state-related deaths and the subsequent investigation and inquest process. For over 40 years, we have worked alongside bereaved families, campaigners, and legal professionals to advocate for accountability and meaningful change. Our casework team provides specialist advice to families who have been traumatically bereaved by state-related deaths involving police, prisons, mental health settings, and other forms of detention. We also work closely with the Inquest Lawyers Group. Through dedicated research and monitoring, we identify and keep track of key issues and missed opportunities to prevent state-related deaths. We aim to put the voices and experiences of bereaved families at the heart of everything we do.

About the role
We are recruiting two administration volunteers to support our casework team. Volunteers will be expected to:
· Provide administrative support with case file management;
· Communicate with lawyers for case updates;
· Carry out research on relevant state bodies, such as specific prisons;
· Help identify, research and monitor key issues and emerging concerns in relation to contentious state-related deaths.
What we offer

Desirable knowledge and skills:
· Interest in, and knowledge of, INQUEST’s work and values;
· Willingness to learn about the criminal justice system, inquests, mental health, abolition, and human rights;
· Commitment to social justice, antiracism, and holding the state to account;
· Good written and verbal communication skills;
· Good organisation and administrative skills, including IT literacy;
· Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced team;
· Some experience carrying out desk research.
We recognise that applicants can gain valuable experience in a range of contexts, and that the above skills need not be related to formal education or employment. We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience of coronial and other state systems, and those representing the diverse communities with which we work.
We particularly encourage applications from individuals from underrepresented, disadvantaged, and racialised communities.
We require that individuals with lived experience of the coronial system, who have experienced the loss of a loved one, apply at a minimum of two years post-inquest so that we can provide appropriate care and support for staff needs.
Expected commitment
Volunteers are expected to commit 1 day a week for 6 months, with the possibility of extending further.

Our fundraising team leaders have the exciting and varied role of inspiring our fundraising volunteers to plan and deliver local fundraising events. Using their passion and imagination, they oversee a small team of fundraising volunteers who come together to raise the vital funds needed to cover costs such as veterinary bills and food. Our fundraising team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported. Activities include:
· Supporting and encouraging a team of fundraising volunteers

You will develop new skills, expand your knowledge and make a significant contribution to improving the lives of cats and kittens by helping raise funds and awareness through organising local events. You will also meet new people, make new friends and be part of a dedicated team of volunteers. You will be supported and guided from our National Cat Centre and through our regional and local volunteer groups and teams. We offer engaging online and face-to-face training, expenses and have policies and processes to help volunteers get the most out of their time with us.
We're looking for someone with the following:
· Great people skills and the ability to bring out the best in others
· Excellent organisational skills
· The ability to prioritise and delegate
· An appreciation of the importance of handling money and charity resources responsibly
· Fine-tuned communication skills and a passion for engaging with people within your local community

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?
I chose to volunteer at Mind, specifically because of the cause – I support the charity in what they want to achieve. Mind also supported me through the lockdown period during the pandemic, which I found very isolating.
I’ve volunteered for Mind for 20 years - I started volunteering for Mind in 2005. At the time, I had a full-time job, but I wanted to try volunteering. I’ve volunteered in a number of Mind shops, including Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Gateshead (which was where I became a Lead Volunteer) and finally, North Shields.
I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer to gain more experience, which I can then pass onto others. I now undertake key holder duties in my current shop. It was a little scary to begin with, but there was plenty of support from the wider region and I feel really proud to now be doing the role.
What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?
I’ve developed my technology skills – I’ve learnt how to use the till, how to use the computer including emails and Microsoft Teams, how to complete eLearning and the new Gift Aid hub. I struggled a bit before with technology, so it’s really helped me to be exposed to it more. I’ve also developed cash handling skills and how to deal with external contractors. My confidence has really grown and I’m also now able to cover local stores too!
What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?
I really enjoy giving amazing customer service and working with the team of staff and volunteers – we have lots of fun whilst we work! The shop has a great atmosphere. My Shop Manager has said she couldn’t do without me! I would really recommend for anyone to come and volunteer with Mind – it’s a great way to meet new people.

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?
I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer because I wanted to take on more responsibilities and keep myself as productive as possible. By taking on more responsibilities, I’m able to support the wider team with certain activities within the shop. It’s also helped me become less focused on my myself and my own problems. I suffer from low self-esteem and felt that by becoming a Lead Volunteer, it would help strengthen my self-worth.
What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?
As I have never worked in retail, becoming a Lead Volunteer has given me more insight into how the retail industry and how Mind Retail operates day-to-day. I have become more patient and not as isolated as before. My communication skills have improved too.
What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?
Certain customers are confiding in me about their mental health. I find it great to be able to assist and provide some support. We all just need an ear to listen…
It’s also great to be able to make decisions too. The team I work with at the shop are very supportive and understanding – they look after me and I feel like a belong to a small family. The team really understand that our shops are not just shops! They’re a place where everyone, including those with mental health problems, can feel safe and listened to.

It’s also great to be able to make decisions too. The team I work with at the shop are very supportive and understanding – they look after me and I feel like a belong to a small family. The team really understand that our shops are not just shops! They’re a place where everyone, including those with mental health problems, can feel safe and listened to.

About the Role
Rotherham & Barnsley Mind are seeking a Receptionist / Administration Support Volunteer to provide a friendly, professional front‑of‑house service at our Rotherham office.
This is a key volunteer role within the organisation. As the first point of contact, you will help create a welcoming, calm and supportive environment for people accessing our mental health services, as well as staff, volunteers and visitors.
The role also includes a range of general administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the organisation. We are looking for a reliable and flexible volunteer who enjoys working with people and supporting a busy office environment.

I chose to volunteer at Mind, specifically because of the cause – I support the charity in what they want to achieve. Mind also supported me through the lockdown period during the pandemic, which I found very isolating.
I’ve volunteered for Mind for 20 years - I started volunteering for Mind in 2005. At the time, I had a full-time job, but I wanted to try volunteering. I’ve volunteered in a number of Mind shops, including Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Gateshead (which was where I became a Lead Volunteer) and finally, North Shields.
I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer to gain more experience, which I can then pass onto others. I now undertake key holder duties in my current shop. It was a little scary to begin with, but there was plenty of support from the wider region and I feel really proud to now be doing the role.
What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?

Do you want to join an organisation committed to addressing low literacy and numeracy?
Volunteers are essential to Shannon Trust and bring their energy, ideas and skills to train mentors in prisons, support learners in the community and enhance our business support team.
We are looking for volunteers to provide training and support to our mentors in prison. There may be some additional preparation and/ or administrative tasks in between volunteering days at the prison.
Our prison volunteers nurture the growth of the Shannon Trust in their prison. They help unlock the power of reading by delivering training sessions for prison mentors and offering ongoing advice, guidance and support through mentor meetings.
Volunteer recruitment dates
The closing date for applications to attend our next round of training is 6 September 2026. In some circumstances, volunteer vacancies may close early. Successful applicants will be sent interview questions in advance with notice to prepare. We will respond to all applications. Successful applicants will be invited to an interview between 7 and 18 September 2026. This is an opportunity for you to meet our regional team, to find out more about you and for us to share more information about the volunteering role.
Training:
You'll be given high quality training to prepare you for volunteering with Shannon Trust. This takes place over 4 training sessions and via our online training portal. We ask that volunteers aim to complete the training in one course as this means that you will be ready to start actively volunteering. The next training sessions for volunteering for people applying to be a prison based volunteer will take place as follows.

Administrative Support Volunteer - Lancashire
Information about the role
You’ll be completing a range of administrative tasks to help the local team assist people who are experiencing the housing emergency or need support with benefits and debt issues.
Location: Shelter Lancashire Hub, Blackburn Central Library, Town Hall Street, Blackburn. Volunteering activity could be in the Hub or in our community settings.

The volunteer will play a key role in helping the ETE team stay organised, efficient, and responsive to the needs of service users and staff. This role supports the ETE Programme Assistant in delivering high-quality services, contributing to the overall impact and effectiveness of the programme.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Assist with general day-to-day administrative tasks to support the organisation of ESOL classes, level assessments and events
Communicate with service users, including responding to and monitoring general enquiries via WhatsApp and email
Send reminder messages for classes, assessments, or events
Support with data entry as well as managing and updating databases, including attendance registers and service user contact information
Support outreach activities, including distributing flyers, posters and informative material both online via social media and in-person to key community hubs such as libraries, shops, cafés and churches
Assist with updating, uploading and printing materials related to ETE activities
Help with any other tasks requested by the ETE Programme Assistant
We are looking for
Fluency in English and Spanish (written and spoken); knowledge of Portuguese is an advantage
A flexible and enthusiastic person who is confident in working in a multicultural and multilingual environment
Good IT skills, including in using Microsoft and Google suite packages, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases
Good interpersonal and communication skills with attention to detail
A caring, sensitive and non-judgemental manner
Knowledge of how to deal with sensitive and confidential information
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to CRM systems
Good organisational and time management skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, without constant supervision
Interest in education, employment support, or community work
Understanding of issues facing Latin American migrants in the UK
Additional requirements
Two references from current/previous employers
Basic DBS Check (completed through IRMO)
Safeguarding Level 1 certificate (completed through IRMO)
One month trial period

We are seeking to appoint three new Trustees to join our Board at an exciting and pivotal time for the charity.
We are particularly interested in candidates with senior expertise in one of the following areas:
• Finance – ideally a qualified accountant interested in chairing our Risk and Audit Committee
• Governance – with experience in employment law and/or charity law
• Human Resources – senior-level HR leadership experience

This is an unpaid role with reasonable out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed. Trustees are expected to attend Board meetings (primarily London-based), undertake training, be willing to participate in committee work if applicable, and contribute approximately 7–10 days annually. Appointments are for an initial three-year term, with potential reappointment for up to six years.
