This is an exciting moment for us at SICK!, and we are thrilled to invite passionate, forward-thinking individuals to join our Board.

With our unwavering focus on mental and physical health, disability, inequality, and social change, our work has never been more relevant. We are proud of the growing impact we’re making locally and globally, and this is being recognised by our partners and funders who are investing in our long-term vision for the future.

Including Arts Council England who have committed to investing in our work as a National Portfolio Organisation 2023-2028.

In 2026, we present the latest iteration of SICK! Festival - with Beat One taking place throughout May.

Central to this is our Creative Resuscitation (CPR) model, which shifts us from a biennial, month-long festival to a year-round rhythm of seasonal “beats”. This structure is designed to disrupt unsustainable cycles, deepen relationships, and embed community voice and public outcomes across everything we do.

This festival, under SICK!’s new leadership, marked a pivotal moment in our journey as we deepen our commitment to engaging with pressing societal issues and sparking meaningful conversations.

We are looking to recruit new trustees, including but not limited to, with skills and professional qualifications in finance/accountancy, experience in communications or development and fundraising.

As an organisation, we are committed to ensuring our Board reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We are actively encouraging applications from people facing racism, those who identify as LGBTQIA+, individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds, and those with disabilities. We would also welcome applications from people with connections to Moston, Harpurhey, and Charlestown.

Organisation: Evangelical Mission Association (operating as Global Connections)

Location: UK-wide (hybrid)

Term: Three years (renewable up to a maximum of nine years)

Time commitment: Four Board meetings per year (typically four to five hours, with preparation), four meetings per year with Executive Leaders and one other trustee, plus ad-hoc meetings with the CEO as required. Travel expenses can be claimed.

The Evangelical Mission Association (EMA), operating as Global Connections, is a UK network of mission hearted organisations, churches, colleges, businesses and individuals. As part of the global Church, we have a shared vision to see: ‘The Whole Church taking the Whole Gospel to the Whole World.’

Being faithful to God’s calling for His Church to work together as one body, we believe we are better together - working collaboratively as part of God’s global mission rather than in isolation. Membership of Global Connections reflects a commitment to collaboration, co-mission, and mutual learning. It is an investment in relationships and collective action for the sake of God’s Kingdom and the flourishing of mission.

As part of our governance and succession planning, we are seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees, following the completion of the current Chair’s maximum term. We are looking for a Chair with the leadership, governance, and relational capacity to guide the Board effectively in this next season.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead the Board effectively - chair Board meetings with clarity, fairness, and impartiality; work with the executive leadership team to shape agendas; foster a culture of trust, accountability, and constructive challenge; and ensure the Board focuses on its fiduciary, strategic, and generative responsibilities (including finance, risk, safeguarding, and trustee development).
• Support and line-manage the CEO - act as the primary point of accountability for the CEO on behalf of the Board; provide encouragement, guidance, and appropriate challenge between meetings; and lead the CEO’s annual appraisal and oversee performance review arrangements.
• Chair Council meetings - chair the twice-yearly Council meetings, including the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
• Represent the charity - act as an ambassador and spokesperson for Global Connections within the network and externally where appropriate.
• Contribute to governance and reporting - provide content for the Annual Trustees’ Report, with support from the Executive Leadership.

Our Independent Visitor Service is looking for volunteers in or near to Newcastle under Lyme.

For many children and young people living in foster care can be unsettling. You can make a difference by volunteering as an Independent Visitor. 

We are looking for fun, reliable, and pro-active volunteers from all different cultures, backgrounds and experiences who have a genuine interest in making a difference to the lives of children and young people. 

You will decide with your young person what to do, but activities could include going to the cinema, bowling, playing football, going to a restaurant, riding a bike, or walking in a park. We will match you with a child you share common interests with. 

You do not need experience of working with children and young people, just an interest in their development and welfare. Full training and support are provided 

Here’s a few of the young people we have waiting for a volunteer: 

• Amy (12) lives with an older carer, she would like an active Independent Visitor who can do sports with her. 

• Brad (13) lives in residential care with other young people, he doesn’t have anyone in his family visit. He would like an Independent Visitor to take him out and have fun, like the other young people. 

• Cassie (16) lives with carers in a new town, she doesn’t have any friends in the area yet. She would like an Independent Visitor to help with her confidence and going out in the local area, she loves hot chocolate and cake. 

• Danny (11) lives with foster carers and attends a special school. He would like an Independent Visitor to help him be more independent, he likes parks, aeroplanes, and animals. 

• Emma (9) lives with her carer in a very busy household, she would like an Independent Visitor to spend some time with her on her own trying different activities together.

• Volunteering mainly happens at weekends and after school hours as the young people are usually in school during the daytime 

• The role requires commitment of at least 24 months with one visit per month; this ensures stability for the Child or Young Person
