Why Does Roots Academy Exist?
Crisis of Faith: 1 in 4 young Muslims are leaving the religion due to various factors, primarily the pervasive anti-religious content and temptations they encounter online and offline.
Roots Academy exists to bridge this gap by providing a structured and transformative Islamic education that speaks directly to the needs and challenges of young Muslims today, delivered in an engaging and accessible form that provokes thought and action.

Role Summary
To bring our vision to life, you will play a key role in shaping how Roots Academy’s message is delivered visually. As a Video Editor, you will be responsible for editing high-quality, engaging video content that supports our educational programs, strengthens our online presence, and helps our content resonate deeply with audiences across social platforms.

Key tasks

• Edit short-form and long-form video content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and other digital channels.
• Apply consistent pacing, subtitles, branding, and visual style in line with Roots Academy guidelines.
• Collaborate closely with content leads, instructors, and the marketing team to deliver videos aligned with campaign goals.
• Manage feedback, revisions, and version control efficiently.
• Organise and maintain video assets and project files in shared drives.

What we’re looking for

• Passion for Islamic education and contributing to the development of young Muslims.
• Strong video editing skills using tools such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent.
• An eye for storytelling, pacing, and visual clarity — especially for short-form social content.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple edits at once.
• Clear communication and openness to feedback.

To bring our vision to life, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing our social

media strategy. You will be responsible for creating engaging and meaningful content that

resonates with our audience, promotes our educational programs, and nurtures our

community’s spiritual development.

Key tasks

• Social Media Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive social media strategy

aligned with Roots Academy’s mission and goals.

• Content Creation: Create compelling and informative social media content, including

posts, videos, graphics, and stories, that reflects our values and engages our target audience.

• Community Engagement: Build and nurture a vibrant online community by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a timely and respectful manner.

• Content Calendar: Maintain a content calendar to ensure a consistent posting schedule and to plan for special events, holidays, and campaigns.

• Audience Growth: Implement strategies to increase our social media following and engagement, including the use of hashtags, collaborations, and promotions.

• Analytics and Reporting: Monitor social media metrics, track campaign performance, and provide regular reports with insights and recommendations for improvement.

• Brand Consistency: Ensure that all social media content adheres to Roots Academy’s branding guidelines and reflects our core values.

• Collaboration: Work closely with other teams to align social media efforts with broader organisational objectives.

What we’re looking for

• Strong understanding of Islamic values and the ability to communicate and promote them effectively.

• Proven experience in social media management, preferably in an educational or nonprofit context.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency in social media management tools and platforms.

• Creative thinking and the ability to develop engaging content.

• Strong analytical skills for tracking and evaluating social media performance.

• Understanding of social media advertising and paid promotion.

• Community management experience with the ability to maintain a positive and respectful online environment.

• Graphic Design Software - Basic knowledge of graphic design software like Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite for creating or editing marketing materials.

Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our cat adoption team leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our cat adoption team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Acting as the main point of contact within the team for cat adoption enquiries via email/telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The cat adoption team leader role is vital within our busy volunteer teams. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! ● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Become the new friendly face in your local Tŷ Hafan charity shop!

Volunteering in our charity shops is a great way to look after your wellbeing, build confidence, and make a real impact.

You’ll be part of a friendly team, learning new skills while helping raise vital funds to support children with life‑shortening conditions and their families across Wales.

About our Carmarthen Shop:

Our Carmarthen shop is located in a busy walkthrough shopping mall on the edge of Carmarthen town. The shop is well supported with donations and is historically our top performing Lottery shop.

The shop team are always on the lookout for new ways to generate income, including taking part in shopping centre and community events.

Commitment:Our shops operate Monday-Saturday, 9am-4:45pm and we appreciate any time you can spare, but ideally at least 2 hours per week.

Shifts will be discussed during your informal chat.

Background checks: We will ask you to provide us with the details of two referees.

Expenses: Reasonable mileage or public transport costs can be claimed for this role in line with Tŷ Hafan’s volunteer expenses guidance. We’d love you to be part of our Information & Advice Service. As an Information Volunteer Assistant, you could be :

• Welcoming and providing information to visitors

• Ordering leaflets from various sources

• Updating external contacts

• Undertaking general administration

• possibly dealing with straightforward signposting and information.

You’ll enjoy working within a team of volunteers and meeting new people, have great communication skills, are polite and emphatic, understand basic IT systems and updating manual records, and are able or willing to learn to use the internet and Microsoft Office 365.

We are currently looking for someone to volunteer for 3 hours, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays either am or pm.

We will reimburse your out-of-pocket volunteer expenses.

About the role:

As a Shop Volunteer you’ll be joining a friendly, welcoming team of volunteers and staff who support each other and have a lot of fun along the way. We value every volunteer and the unique perspective, skills and energy you bring. 

Whether you’re sorting donations, creating beautiful displays, or chatting to customers, every task you take on helps to build a more inclusive world. 

We value volunteer development, and as part of this role you can develop your skills further by training to become a till user alongside your regular shop volunteer responsibilities, or progressing into a Key volunteer, a role which includes opening, running, and closing the shop in the absence of the manager.

No matter your reason for volunteering – whether it’s to meet new people, build new skills or support Sense’s cause – there’s a place for you in one of our shops. 

Due to the nature of the role, we require all applicants to be aged 16 or over. You must have a UK address to volunteer with Sense.

Key responsibilities: Shop volunteer 

You’ll spend time doing a range of activities, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service, helping create a wonderful shopping experience.
• Receiving donated items from the public, thanking them for their support.
• Sorting, steaming and preparing donations for sale.
• Helping to display stock in eye-catching and exciting ways.
• Keeping the shop floor clean, safe and tidy.
• Talking to customers about Sense and the work we do.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Volunteering alongside colleagues including the branch coordinator/team leader, Cat Welfare team, branch development manager and Vet team to ensure that cat care policies, procedures and standards are applied
• Support fosterers to follow cat welfare policies and procedures
• Acting as the main point of contact within the branch for cat welfare and ensuring that welfare updates are shared and implemented effectively
• Supporting the branch by ensuring that accurate and up to date records of all cats helped are maintained, using specified systems
• Attending relevant volunteer training sessions and encouraging other volunteers to do likewise
• With the other volunteers, recruit, induct and support all branch fosterers and cat care volunteers
• Represent the branch at relevant meetings
• Play an active part in the branch committee, being part of the branch team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat adoption team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with our policies and procedures

Time expectation

The time expectation for this role will vary depending on the number of volunteers and cats in care. Our cat welfare team leaders usually spend between 10 to 12 hours per week in this role which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

As a charity we are able to help thousands of cats each year thanks to the generous donations we receive from members of the public. Our fundraising volunteers use their passion for cats and people to raise the vital funds needed to help more cats and kittens in need. As a fundraising volunteer we want to support you to fundraise in whatever way suits you best, whether that’s organising a fundraising event, fundraising online, promoting fundraising activities on social media, completing administration or supporting the development of new fundraising ideas! Whatever your skill set, this could be the role for you! 

You can expect us to

• Make you feel welcome, included and respected in line with our values and behaviours
• Support you in having a positive and impactful experience at Cats Protection
• Cover agreed out-of-pocket expenses in line with our Expenses Policy
• Provide you with access to learning, development and engagement opportunities

What we need from you

This is a really flexible role, you can choose what you’d like to get involved with, for example: 

• face-to-face fundraising. Organising or helping with fundraising events, running supermarket collections and fundraising stands, monitoring collection tins 

• online fundraising. Setting up online appeals and writing impactful cat case studies that maximise donations

• marketing. Spreading the word about our fundraising activities, for example on social media and with the local press  

• completing administration. Processing donations, sorting and recording donated goods, completing Gift Aid paperwork

● championing our work. Getting involved with developing new fundraising ideas and increasing community engagement

● photography. Capturing images of cats in care, cats we are helping, events and all things Cats Protection

Time expectation

This is a flexible role that can fit around your other commitments to suit you. You’ll be part of a team raising vital funds while having fun in the process!
