About the Role of Non-Executive Director 

Haven is looking to appoint one or more Scotland-based Non-Executive Directors to join its Board at an important stage in the organisation’s development. This is an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of Haven’s three-year business plan, supported by the Scottish Government, which aims to return the organisation to a sustainable, profit-generating position while remaining true to its charitable mission.

As a Non-Executive Director, you will work with fellow Board members to provide effective governance, oversight, and stability, ensuring Haven operates in line with its values and long-term objectives. You will bring independent perspective, constructive challenge, and strategic insight to support the Executive team through a period of change and growth.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to Haven’s strategic direction, offering insight and oversight on planning and implementation
• Support business development and diversification through networking and stakeholder engagement
• Identify and facilitate strategic partnerships, including supporting transition from Rehab Group
• Provide governance and policy oversight, ensuring robust and effective decision-making
• Offer constructive challenge and guidance to the Executive team
• Attend Board meetings, alongside occasional events, training sessions, and seminars

We are particularly interested in individuals with senior-level experience who can contribute to organisational recovery, growth, and long-term sustainability. At least one appointment will bring strong commercial or business development experience. Candidates may come from backgrounds such as manufacturing or operational leadership, business turnaround or organisational restructuring, or roles focused on sales, marketing, or income diversification. Experience within social enterprise, the charity sector, or working with disability-focused organisations would also be valuable.

Local business connections and networks within Scotland would be advantageous.

Beyond experience, we are looking for individuals who bring integrity, sound judgement, and the confidence to both support and challenge constructively. Strong communication and relationship-building skills, along with a proactive mindset, are important. You should be comfortable navigating complexity, contributing to collective decision-making, and maintaining a focus on both mission and commercial sustainability.

Time Commitment

There will be a minimum of four half-day Board meetings per year, with an expectation to attend an additional four to five meetings annually as required. Meetings are typically held at Haven Products’ Larbert site (FK5 4RU), with some held remotely or at other locations across Scotland. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Main Responsibilities 

Providing coding support to the team in C++ or other programming languages (Java, Python). 

Work with the UX/UI in implementing app and game design

Communication within a team setting, intercommunication skills are key 

Updating app/game code as and when needed 

Respond to feedback effectively

In addition to the above, the Coding Volunteer has the same responsibilities and qualities as all Volunteers:

Responsibilities of all trustees

Support and provide advice on Easing Anxieties’ purpose, vision, goals, and activities. 

Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.

Oversee Easing Anxieties’ financial plans and budgets, and monitor and evaluate progress. 

Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.

Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively.

Keep abreast of changes in Easing Anxieties’s operating environment.

Attend Board meetings, adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.

Use independent judgment, acting legally and in good faith to promote and protect Easing Anxieties’ interests, to the exclusion of their own personal and/or any third party interests.

Contribute to the broader promotion of Easing Anxieties’ objects, aims, and reputation by applying your skills, expertise, knowledge, and contacts.

This is a voluntary position, but reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

You will be a member of a sub-committee that will meet [6] times per year.

We are looking for our next Chair of Trustees – someone who will work closely with our Executive Team and Board to guide the organisation through what is both a challenging and genuinely exciting time. The funding environment is tough. The political context is difficult. And yet the need for what we do has never been greater.

This is an unpaid voluntary role. Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with our Volunteer Expenses Policy.

The successful candidate will lead a vibrant, well-established, national charity as it navigates the next chapter of its story.

Main tasks

• Developing and setting our future strategy, alongside the Executive Team and other Trustees
• Helping shape and deliver our future, identifying opportunities in an evolving landscape
• Leading the Board of Trustees, including regular 1:1s and providing space for reflection
• Acting as a 'critical friend' to our Executive Team, as well as formal line management to the CEO (and COO in their absence)
• Acting as an ambassador for the charity – raising awareness of what we do and engaging potential supporters and other key stakeholders
• Responsibility, along with the other trustees, for the governance of the charity
• Contributing to the ongoing strategy of the charity, in line with our charitable objectives
• Participating in board meetings and sub-committees in an inclusive and thoughtful way

Why we want you

As branch chair you and your branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. To ensure that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.

What you will be doing

• Overseeing an appropriate programme of awareness raising activities so that potential beneficiaries, volunteers and supporters are aware of SSAFA as first in mind for support.
• Building relationships with the regional and national SSAFA team, local voluntary organisations and, if applicable, SSAFA serving community teams, local military establishments, etc.
• Attending events as a key SSAFA representative.
• Providing timely reports and information to SSAFA’s central office
• Overseeing a programme of meetings including an AGM, branch meetings, committee meetings, training etc.
• Working with other volunteers, regional and national team members to attract and recruit new volunteers as required.
• Work closely with the community engagement co-ordinator to recruit, welcome, induct, support, and manage volunteers in line with SSAFA policies, such as the Volunteering Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Data Protection Policy, and Safeguarding Policy.

• You’ll need to be aged 18+ to volunteer in this role. If you’re aged 16-17, you’ll need to be supervised by a friend, family member, or guardian over the age of 18 in order to carry out any fundraising activity.

Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR) Support Volunteer

People in care homes should have a voice to communicate their needs wishes and wants. Some people need support with this, but don’t have friends and family available to assist them.  This means they’re entitled to have support from an RPR and volunteer, who are there to make sure they get the care they deserve.  Your role as an RPR Support Volunteer is to collaborate with the VoiceAbility RPR to make sure a person’s views are listened to when decisions are made about their care. 

As an RPR Support Volunteer you might: 

• Visit people in their care home, to make sure they’re getting the right care and support
• Talk with them about their feelings, thoughts and wishes
• Raise concerns
• Keep detailed notes and records
• Make a real difference to someone’s life 

All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.  You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.

Perinatal Support Volunteers provide one-to-one support to parents during pregnancy and up to nine months after the birth. These parents either have mental health issues or are at risk of developing them.

Perinatal Support Volunteers visit these families once a week (usually weekdays during working hours) for 2-3 hours, providing emotional support and practical help in the family’s home or local community. Support is aimed at empowering parents and building resilience beyond the support period.

The type of support Perinatal Support Volunteers provide to parents may include:

• An empathetic and non-judgemental listening ear
• Support to prepare for parenthood
• Support to build confidence in parenting skills
• Support to develop a positive relationship with their infant
• Support to establish daily and weekly routines
• Support to take time for self-care
• Support to manage the things that are causing stress
• Support to access relevant services
• Support to access local green spaces
• Support to make connections with other parents

No special qualifications are necessary to become a Perinatal Support Volunteer, but Home-Start volunteers are usually either parents or grandparents themselves, or people with experience of young children and family life. We particularly welcome volunteers with lived experience of perinatal mental health challenges.

Fine Cell Work (FCW) is a UK-based rehabilitation charity and social enterprise. We are supported by an incredible team of prison volunteers who are the link between the charity and the stitchers we work with in prison. Our volunteers run fortnightly stitching groups in the prisons we work with to facilitate our stitchers’ production of high-quality needlework.

Our prison volunteers work in small teams to teach our stitchers’ embroidery and needlepoint, organise their group sessions, and liaise with the prison and FCW office.

What you will do as a prison volunteer:

• Teach people in prison how to stitch and support the completion of our premade kits in our cell groups, which consist of around 10-15 stitchers.
• Communicate with staff at our hub in Battersea to receive kits and supplies for your group and send back completed work for your stitchers to be paid.
• Encourage and help stitchers to complete our Open College Network certifications in creative needlework.
• Develop stitchers’ skills and confidence by encouraging them to take responsibility as peer mentors.
• Act as an ambassador for the charity and sharing our vision and values throughout your volunteering.

Who we are looking for:

• Skills in embroidery and/or needlepoint or a willingness to learn to stitch is essential for this role.
• Ideally some teaching experience or experience working with socially-excluded groups.
• Someone with a non-judgemental attitude and commitment to rehabilitation.
• Someone who is an excellent team worker.
• Someone who is good at observing personal boundaries.

Commitment: our stitching groups run for 2 hours every fortnight, so with travel time and some admin work after groups we ask prison volunteers to set aside a morning or afternoon every 2 weeks.

You must be over 18 for this role with the ability to travel to the prison. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by the charity.

The role of a Treasurer is an unpaid, voting role sitting on the UK Board of Trustees and reporting to the Chair of Trustees. In line with our policy, all trustees initially start in a non-voting advisor role to ensure that both they and the board are happy to formalise the trusteeship before transitioning to a full voting trustee position.

The Treasurer will work with the UK Operations Manager and the UK board of trustees to share the responsibility for overseeing the financial health and sustainability of Sreepur Village and will liaise with the Overseas Director based in Sreepur Village.

Treasurer Role

· Oversee the financial affairs and ensure they are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice 

· Review the appointment of new auditors and work to ensure financial reports are clear and timely 

· Hold monthly budget review meetings with the UK Operations Manager to oversee accounting and financial controls

· Ensure appropriate risk management is in place and is reviewed by the board on a regular basis

· Introduce new financial forecasting and reporting systems and ensure protocols and processes are appropriate

· Be main point of contact with the investment fund managers and oversee investment policy

Governance Role

• Contribute to the strategic planning process
• Be an ambassador for Sreepur Village representing the organisation and linking it to its stakeholders.
• Attend at least three meetings a year (virtual or in person) or as advised by the Chair of Trustees if the number of meetings changes.
• Attend or host fundraising events, where possible.
• Respond to emails and other correspondence within five working days or an agreed time frame
