No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

We are seeking Event Paramedics to respond to and manage emergency calls/incidents whilst attending events. At all times provide specialist, clinical, social and holistic care to undertake clinical assessment and interventions those individuals in the pre-hospital environment, which may include stadia, concerts, motorsports, road races etc. This may encompass working on both ambulances / FRV’s and within treatment units as required.

Successful candidates will be registered Paramedics with the HCPC and be able to provide evidence of CPD activity within the previous 12 months.

Suffolk meets in Ipswich fortnightly on a Tuesday evening, Stowmarket on a Monday evening and Bury St Edmunds on a Wednesday evening.

The type of events Suffolk volunteers have historically supported are Suffolk Show, Aldeburgh Carnival, Newmarket Racecourse, Pumpkin Patch, University of Suffolk open days along with smaller events like village fetes and galas, 5k, 10k and half marathon running events, firework displays and remembrance events. Volunteers also have the opportunity to assist with National and State events in London such as the London Marathon.

Volunteer Trustee opportunities

We are seeking to appoint new Trustees to become actively involved in the strategic direction, governance and decision making of the charity.  As a Trustee you will join a dynamic and supportive team committed to making a difference to people affected by cancer.  With a new, incoming Chair, this is an exciting time to join the Board as it works toward shaping the charity’s future.  The role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact while providing a rewarding and satisfying experience that enables personal development and growth.

The charity is happy to hear from people across the country and in particular anyone with the following experience or expertise.

Healthcare
Medical Practitioners or Allied Health Professionals with recent experience of working with cancer patients/or cancer treatment, ideally within the NHS.

Commercial
The Penny Brohn UK National Centre offers external organisations a unique environment for their own business use which includes daily and residential bookings as well as tenancy agreements.  Due to a successful period of growth in recent years, the charity would welcome the expertise of a Trustee with significant experience in this area who can support the development of this income stream further.

Support for new Trustees
New Trustees are fully supported through a planned induction into the organisation, starting with an introduction to each area of the Charity.

Time commitment
The Trustee Board meet four times in-person each year at the National Centre in Bristol on Fridays, generally between 9am – 4pm.  Trustee representation is also required on one or two online sub-committees, which are held up to four times per year for each committee and Trustees will be appointed to the sub-committees once recruited into post in accordance with their relevant skills and experience.  Attendance is also required for the AGM and an annual Trustee Away Day as well as occasional events or strategic discussions

Attendance at Key Events
As ambassadors for the Charity, the Trustee Board is encouraged to ensure that there is Trustee representation at key events throughout the calendar year such as fundraising, networking and other high-profile events.

Tenure
Trustees are appointed for a three-year term with a maximum appointment of four terms (12 years).

 Expenses
All Trustees are eligible to be reimbursed for expenses incurred whilst on Board business, this includes attendance at Board Meetings.  Eligible expenses include:

• Reimbursement of petrol costs, rate currently set at 45p per mile, (15p per mile after 500 miles incurred annually) or the equivalent 2nd class rail fare, whichever is the lower.
• Any car parking fees associated with the travel.

We are seeking a Welfare and Safeguarding Trustee for an initial term of four years,
(ideally) commencing 1 October 2026.
You will have a relevant background with safeguarding experience (such as nursing, medical,
social care, teaching or other healthcare professional, ideally at a senior level). You will
understand the needs of those who are vulnerable whether its due to age, health and
wellbeing or socio-economic factors and will have the skills and knowledge to advise and guide
on appropriate strategies to ensure the Fund is best able to meet those needs. It is key that
you are able to provide relevant specialist knowledge, support and information and to clearly
articulate issues relating to safeguarding which will be invaluable to the Fund in ensuring it
complies with all legal and good practice requirements in relation to safeguarding and that it

What you will contribute

Evaluate patient’s emotional and physical condition at screening and on ship by performing manual muscle testing, Range Of Motion and other tests as needed

Coordinate and participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of patient treatment plans and goals, utilizing selected physical therapy procedures including physical agents, therapeutic exercise and gait and functional training

Discuss and document treatment goals and therapy with patients, family and staff

Evaluate patients during treatment to determine effectiveness and safety, modifying treatment plan as indicated

Assist with fabrication of orthotics and other supports

Serve as a consultant to physicians and nurses regarding Physical Therapy services

For This Role, You Will Need

Registered Physical Therapist with active license and a minimum of two years’ experience

Experienced with surgical patients preferred, including orthopedics and burn reconstruction, as well as experience in musculoskeletal outpatients

Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal)

Fluent in Engish

As an Area President for East Lancaster – you will support the Network Lead; act as an ambassador to the local community on behalf of St John Ambulance and the Order of St John, promoting the charity’s objectives and our work within the local community.

You will have established links in the community and be able to help SJA achieve our charitable aims by developing relations both externally and internally with local units, volunteer managers, regional staff and with the County Priory Group and other Presidents. All you do will be aimed at supporting the area to fulfil our vision:  ‘Everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.’
