As a County Lead of North Yorkshire and Teeside you will be part of the establishment of a County St John Council to oversee and guide volunteer Community Networks aims to create a structured and supportive framework that empowers volunteers to operate more effectively and efficiently.

 By providing strategic leadership, coordination, and oversight, the council ensures that volunteer efforts align with community needs and priorities while avoiding duplication of services. St John has embarked on a journey to achieve the goal of ensuring that every community and young person across the country is first aid confident. 

We are looking for a leader with a passion for local volunteering and helping communities to inspire and support volunteers on this journey across your county The post will also interact with relevant Communities of Practice to share learning, advice and best practice 

Role summary

To participate as a member of the Maintenance Team covering general maintenance, domestic and health and safety duties. A good level of fitness is required for this role.

Main duties of the role

• To undertake simple maintenance tasks such as painting, PPM (planned preventative maintenance), erecting shelving, etc

• To undertake tasks such as sweeping external areas, jet washing of car park, removal of weeds, Hedge trimming,

• To assist the maintenance team with the delivery of goods to other hospice sites

• To assist the maintenance team with the setting up and down of rooms for meetings, ensuring all furniture and equipment requested is supplied

• To report any maintenance, security or health and safety issues to the maintenance team

• To always wear personal protective equipment required for any task

• To liaise with contractors and suppliers as required

• To respect at all times the confidentiality of information

• To respect at all times the confidentiality of information covering patients, staff and volunteers 

• To conduct any other maintenance duties as requested by the Estates & Facilities team

Experience & qualifications required

• Experience of working in a maintenance or caretaking capacity is desirable 

• Knowledge or skills acquired through a hobby relevant and transferable to the role

Martlets, Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House have collection tins hosted by a wide variety of businesses across Worthing, Sussex, Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas. Our tins continue to play an important role in raising money and awareness for the hospices so that we can continue to provide specialist care.

These tins need to be collected, replaced, and returned to our fundraising offices or shops on a regular basis. With collections expected to be completed on a 6-8 week cycle.

We are looking for friendly, reliable people to help us with this important fundraising and community liaison role.

You will be the face of the Fundraising team in your locality, representing the hospices when collecting. This is a chance to involve yourself with the community by building a relationship with our collection tin hosts and keeping them up to date with any news from us.

About the Role

As a School Governor, you will work as part of the governing board to provide strategic leadership, oversight and challenge. Do you want to help the youth of today become the lifesavers of tomorrow? We're on a mission to teach young people across the country how to save lives. It's a chance for them to learn important first aid skills in a fun, friendly, and safe environment. 

St John is one of the largest youth organisations in the country and many of our young volunteers go onto careers in health and/or social care.

Being a youth volunteer helps young people develop skills and confidence that go on to help them with further education and university applications. To do this we need dedicated and enthusiastic youth helpers. Do you have 2 hours in an evening, once a week during school term times to join our fun loving youth team supporting and developing our young inspirational volunteers? No matter what your interests: Crafting, Singing/Dancing, History, Science or caring for people/animals, we welcome you to join us.

Our Badger are children aged 5-10 years of age and the Cadets are 11 – 17

You will do this by leading weekly meetings, organising other youth development activities and actively participating in the recruitment, training and retention of the young people and volunteers in your unit. You will ensure that they have a positive and rewarding experience in St John Ambulance, by equipping them with the necessary skills to fulfil our vision; ‘Everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.’

This role is ideal for someone who has some management experience and wants to enhance their skills while doing invaluable work. This role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations Offenders Act.

We are looking for new volunteers to join our Youth Team in North Staffordshire to support our young people in striving to achieve their Super Badger and Grand Prior awards. All volunteers begin as Youth Team Members, with the opportunity to progress to Youth Leader after completing additional training. 

This role requires a DBS check and completion of mandatory training. Our core training includes Safeguarding, Youth Leader First Aid, and Youth Team Fundamentals, delivered through a mix of e‑learning, virtual sessions, and optional in‑person courses covering youth team principles, day warrant, and more, depending on your level of involvement. 

Our youth groups currently meet in Stoke, Hanley and Cheadle on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evenings during term time. If you’re enthusiastic about supporting young people and developing your skills within a friendly and dedicated team, we’d love to hear from you.
