VOLUNTEER VACANCIES AT THE ENGLISH SCHOOLS’ FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION (ESFA)

The English Schools’ FA is seeking to further diversify its decision-making bodies to better reflect the needs and aspirations of those with disabilities and to improve inclusion in this area.  We are seeking to make two appointments within our governance structures, as follows:

Council is responsible for decisions about football delivery strategy and the IAN is responsible for providing specific inclusion advice to both Council and the Board of Trustees across all aspects of the ESFA, as illustrated below. The candidate appointed to Council will also be co-opted to serve on the IAN.

Candidates interested in either vacancy should carefully review the information on the ESFA website before completing the short application form. Prisoners Abroad is the only charity supporting British citizens in prison abroad, their families, and people who have returned to the UK after serving a prison sentence overseas.

We run volunteer-led support groups for family members of British prisoners that are currently detained abroad, and have a vacancy for a Family Support Group volunteer in York and the North East. The support groups may be a mixture of in person and on Zoom.

We are looking for someone with an empathy for our work, who can provide a welcoming and friendly environment for family members who have been affected by overseas imprisonment and who will enjoy being part of our team to deliver our family support work.

Overview of the role: Trustees are responsible for providing appropriate governance and leadership to the charity in the pursuit of its strategies, to fulfil its charitable purposes.

A trustee may also lead on a specific area of responsibility dependant on personal skills and experience.

Key tasks

Trustee Responsibilities:

• Attend and actively take part in each trustee meeting.
• Update the trustee board on the progress of any specific area of responsibility.

Other responsibilities, along with the board of trustees, include:

• Develop a long-term strategy for the foodbank with clear objectives which can be monitored and adapted.
• Ensure the organisation’s financial dealings are systematically accounted for and on time, independently examined and made publicly available when necessary.
• Ensure the charity is accountable, actively complying with statutory accounting and reporting requirements and the law. 
• Ensure appropriate financial plans are in place for future budget allocations as well as looking after contractual agreements with external partners that award money for core costs and additional projects.
• Help promote the organisation to a wider audience of potential funders and beneficiaries.
• Ensure the foodbank has appropriate procedures to: comply with current legislation and good practice; including employment, health and safety, equal opportunities, safeguarding and GDPR compliance/data protection etc.
• Act with reasonable care and skill, giving your time, thought and energy to your role.
• Serve as an additional promoter of the foodbank in the community.

Face Painter Volunteer

About The Role

As a face painter you will be out and about in the grounds, engaging with visitors to create memories and helping them and you to have a great day out!

We believe that the best way for people to understand and connect to wetlands is to experience them, so we awe-inspiring nature up close at Martin Mere Wetland Centre, visitors can explore unique wetland habitats and the amazing array of birds and mammals that inhabit them. Our volunteers help to welcome and inspire visitors.

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You’ll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need.

As a Trustee you will provide leadership and contribute to the Board of Trustees enabling the fulfilment of responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of GFS.

We are looking for Trustees who care deeply about our mission and who bring experience, skills and enthusiasm to help steer the charity into its next chapter.

• The Treasurer is a member of the GFS Board of Trustees and is responsible for leading the Board’s oversight of the organisation’s financial strategy, governance, and sustainability.
• The Safeguarding Trustee provides strategic leadership and assurance on all aspects of safeguarding across GFS. They ensure that the Board of Trustees fulfils its collective duty to protect all children, young people, and adults at risk who come into contact with GFS’s activities.

The Treasurer is a member of the GFS Board of Trustees and is responsible for leading the Board’s oversight of the organisation’s financial strategy, governance, and sustainability. Working closely with the Chair, fellow Trustees, and GFS staff, the Treasurer ensures that GFS manages its resources responsibly and in line with its charitable aims to support girls and young women.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Governance & Oversight

• Ensure that GFS operates within its financial policies, charitable objects, and legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., Charity Commission guidance).
• Oversee the financial strategy of GFS and provide leadership to the Board on financial planning, sustainability, reserves, and investment decisions.
• Review and monitor financial reports, management accounts, and forecasts, ensuring the Board receives clear and accurate information to support decision-making.

Budgeting & Reporting

• Work with the CEO and finance staff to review the annual budget and recommend it for Board approval.
• Oversee the preparation of annual statutory accounts and ensure timely submission of all regulatory filings.
• Present the annual accounts at the AGM in a clear and accessible way for members.
• Ensure that financial information is understood by all Trustees, supporting good collective financial stewardship.

Risk & Control

• Oversee financial risk management processes, including internal controls, cashflow, reserves, and investment management.
• Ensure GFS maintains appropriate financial procedures, controls, and delegations.
• Provide scrutiny and challenge where needed to support robust governance.
• Committee Leadership, Co-Chair the Finance and Fundraising Committee

Collaboration & Support

• Act as a key support to the Chair on matters requiring financial insight.
• Work in partnership with the CEO and finance staff, acting as a sounding board while respecting the boundary between governance (trustees) and operations (staff).
• Provide financial guidance to Trustees, helping to build confidence and capability across the Board.

Time Commitment

• Board Members serve an initial three-year term and are eligible for reappointment for an additional term.
• Three Virtual Board meetings and an in person in either in Central London or a central city (meetings are currently held on Saturdays).
• Occasional strategy days, workshops or working groups.
• Quarterly Sub - Committee membership depending on skills and capacity.
• Additional time for reviewing reports, advising staff, and supporting financial planning cycles.
• Attendance at the Annual General Meeting

Join our working group across several locations in a mixture of ancient chalk grassland & ancient woodland means there is always plenty to do!

You will be joining a team of enthusiastic volunteers to carry out key conservation management work across a number of sites in the area. Tasks will vary depending on the season:

Spring &  Summer - Path maintenance, fence repairs, bracken bashing
Autumn & Winter - Scrub and woodland coppicing

No experience necessary just be willing to work as part of a team and be happy to work outside in all weathers.

You do need to be fairly physically fit as many of the reserves have steep hills and rough terrain.

We can only recruit volunteers over the age of 18.

The role

It’s shaping up to be a busy year at Locate International, with a lot of important stories to tell. We need people who can help us tell them – and play a huge part in resolving cases.

We’re looking for more people to join as volunteer media officers – this will involve writing press releases for our missing and unidentified appeals, giving interviews and forging partnerships with broadcasters and publishers.

The right people will be able to write well, will ideally have a journalistic background, and will have experience dealing with different media outlets and their demands. But they must also be able to work with sensitivity and care.

We meet for an hour every Tuesday night on Zoom, and volunteers are expected to contribute an average of six hours a week.
