Atkinson HR is pleased to be supporting Warwick Students' Union (Warwick SU) in the recruitment of two Lay Trustees to join its Trustee Board. 

Warwick SU is the independent students' organisation at the University of Warwick, working to represent students, support their university experience, bring people together and create opportunities for students to shape change. With an ambitious Strategic Plan for 2025–30, this is an exciting opportunity to join the organisation at an important point in its development. 

Warwick SU is committed to building a diverse and effective Trustee Board and is particularly interested in people with expertise in legal and governance matters, finance, HR and people, higher education or Students' Unions. 

About the Role 

As a Lay Trustee, you will bring independent judgement, professional expertise and strategic perspective to Warwick SU's Trustee Board, working alongside elected Officer Trustees and Student Trustees. 

You will contribute to the governance and strategic direction of the organisation, providing oversight and constructive challenge across areas including strategy, financial sustainability, risk, compliance and organisational performance. You will also support and constructively challenge the Chief Executive and contribute to the effective functioning of the Board and its committees. 

This is a governance role rather than an operational position. You will help ensure Warwick SU remains well governed, financially sustainable, legally compliant and focused on delivering for its students. 

The Board values the distinctive contribution of Lay Trustees, bringing professional expertise and an external perspective alongside the direct experience of student and elected representatives. 

About You 

Warwick SU are looking for individuals who can bring strong professional experience, independent judgement and a genuine commitment to students. You may already have experience as a charity trustee, or this may be your first Board role; previous Students' Union experience is not essential. 

You will bring the ability to think strategically, understand complex issues and contribute confidently to Board-level discussion and decision-making. You will be comfortable asking challenging questions, testing assumptions and balancing appropriate challenge with a constructive and collaborative approach. 

You will also be an effective communicator and listener, able to work with people from different backgrounds and perspectives, including elected student representatives. A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, alongside high standards of integrity and accountability, is essential. 

Above all, Warwick SU are looking for people who believe in the ability of students to shape their own university experience and who want to use their skills and experience to make a positive difference.
