This role is hybrid based in Birmingham Third Space (687 Stratford Road, B11 4DX)

Volunteers are an integral part of Human Appeal’s success. They are the ones that create real change for those most in need. This is your chance to meet new people, gain new skills and experience and have fun whilst being part of a great cause.​ We are looking for a engagement intern to assist the fundraising and engagement team in developing events, project management and admin support..

Main tasks:

• Administrative tasks such as collating data, contacting signups for pledges, various challenges, deployments and events. 
• Assist with administrational tasks relating to fundraising 
• Create content for social media
• Contact guests who have booked for events
• Research venues, catering and other fundraising related tasks for upcoming events 
• May be asked to go to occasional events dependent on location ​

Skills and Abilities​:

• A good understanding of humanitarian relief
• Effective written and oral communication skills 
• Good content creating and social media skills
• Problem solving skills 
• Ability to prioritise your workload

The role:

As Chief Advancement Officer, you will lead Project Yananai's global Advancement function, overseeing the three pillars that fuel our mission:

• Fundraising
• Partnerships
• Communications

You will be responsible for developing and delivering an integrated advancement strategy across institutional grants, foundations, corporate partnerships, major gifts, and innovative funding models, ensuring that fundraising, partnerships, and communications work together to support sustainable organisational growth.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Board of Trustees, you will secure the resources, relationships, and visibility needed to expand our impact across multiple nations.

You will lead a global team comprising:

• Director of Fundraising
• Director of Partnerships
• Director of Communications
• Deputy Chief Advancement Officer – Resource Mobilisation

You will also provide strategic oversight to Advancement teams across India, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, ensuring alignment between global priorities and local delivery.

This is a leadership role that combines strategic vision with hands-on execution. You will personally cultivate and secure major funding opportunities while building a culture of excellence, collaboration, innovation, and accountability across the Advancement function.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and deliver a global advancement strategy integrating fundraising, partnerships, and communications.
• Set ambitious income and engagement targets and monitor performance against agreed objectives.
• Ensure a cohesive and compelling external presence that strengthens Project Yananai's profile and impact.

Fundraising & Donor Engagement

• Personally manage and grow a portfolio of high-value donor relationships.
• Lead the development of complex funding proposals and major funding opportunities.
• Represent Project Yananai with donors, funders, partners, and sector stakeholders.

Partnerships & Communications

• Oversee the development of strategic corporate, philanthropic, and multi-sector partnerships.
• Ensure communications effectively support fundraising, partnership development, donor stewardship, and brand positioning.
• Champion compelling impact storytelling that articulates Project Yananai's Theory of Change.

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop senior advancement leaders and their teams.
• Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing across countries and functions.
• Build organisational capability through coaching, professional development, and succession planning.

Growth, Innovation & Governance

• Develop new income streams and innovative partnership models.
• Ensure compliance with donor, regulatory, and organisational requirements.
• Provide regular reporting and strategic advice to the CEO and Board of Trustees.

About You

You are an accomplished advancement leader with a proven track record of securing significant funding and building strategic partnerships within the international development, humanitarian, or nonprofit sector.

You will bring:

• Extensive senior leadership experience in advancement, fundraising, or resource mobilisation.
• Demonstrated success securing six- and seven-figure funding from institutional donors, foundations, corporates, and major donors.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams across fundraising, partnerships, and communications.
• Strong understanding of global funding markets across the UK, Europe, USA, Africa, and the Gulf.
• Experience operating across multiple countries and complex stakeholder environments.
• Exceptional relationship-building, influencing, and communication skills.
• Strong commercial, financial, and strategic acumen.
• A collaborative, resilient, and entrepreneurial leadership style.

As a Volunteer Donor Relationship Co-ordinator, you will play a crucial role in forming and maintaining relationships with our donors, ensuring they feel valued and appreciated, whilst forming & implementing a strategy to keep them donating. This role would suit someone who is confident, enthusiastic about building strong connections, and passionate about the welfare of refugees & asylum seekers.

Key responsibilities:

• Identify and approach local high net worth individuals/businesses to approach for a regular donation
• Develop a donor relationship strategy aimed at maximising engagement and satisfaction.
• Personally reach out to existing donors to thank them for their contributions (& send seasonal cards/other personalised messages to maintain positive relationships).
• Build relationships by engaging with donors via phone calls and emails to understand their motivations for donating and gather feedback used to improve our efforts.
• Encourage previous donors to continue their support.
• Keep detailed and accurate records of all our donor interactions to ensure we have up-to-date information on our supporters.
• Create and distribute surveys to gain insights into our donors’ needs and expectations.
• Further down the line, host webinars or live Q&A sessions to answer donor questions and provide updates on our work.

Requirements:

• Strong communication abilities
• Proficiency with google docs/sheets
• Excellent organisational skills
• A confident individual who is comfortable engaging with a diverse range of people
• Pro-active approach and work with minimum supervision
• Can commit a minimum of 2 hours per week

Trustee

Age UK Lewisham & Southwark is seeking to appoint several new trustees as part of its ongoing Board development and succession planning.

Location: Lewisham & Southwark, London (Board meetings held in Southwark)
Salary: Voluntary, unpaid (reasonable expenses reimbursed)
Hours: Approximately four Board meetings per year, one annual Board away day, participation in at least one Board sub-committee and occasional engagement between meetings.

About the role

We are seeking to strengthen and diversify the Board's skills, experience and perspectives through several trustee appointments.

Safeguarding is a key recruitment priority. We are keen to appoint at least one trustee with safeguarding knowledge or experience to serve as the Board's Safeguarding Lead, providing strategic oversight and assurance of safeguarding governance.

We would also particularly welcome applications from individuals with experience or expertise in the following areas:

· Health and social care, public health, NHS services or related fields.

· Fundraising, income generation and donor development.

· Legal, regulatory or governance matters.

· Property, facilities, estates or building management.

We do not expect candidates to have experience in all of these areas and welcome applications from individuals who can contribute expertise or experience in one or more of these areas.

As a place-based charity, we are particularly interested in trustees who live, work, volunteer, or have strong connections to Lewisham and Southwark and can bring local knowledge and insight to the Board.

Commitment

Board meetings are normally held in person at the Stones End Day Centre in Southwark. Whilst hybrid participation may occasionally be possible, the Board places a strong emphasis on in-person attendance to support effective discussion, decision-making and relationship-building.

Volunteering in the shop

Our gorgeous shop in historic Windsor has been at the heart of the community since the early 1990’s (it’s truly vintage!) and has in recent years been transformed into a bespoke Mary’s Living & Giving store. 

Our Windsor Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

It’s a great opportunity to visit the shop, meet some of our existing volunteers and have a go at some of the tasks that you would be supporting with as a shop volunteer. Hopefully allowing you to get a feel for the role and make sure it’s for you. We also ask for a couple of references (these don’t have to be formal workplace ones, just someone who has known you for over 6 months and isn’t related).
