Legasee Educational Trust is looking for a new Trustee to help shape the next stage of our educational work, partnerships and long-term sustainability.

Legasee records, preserves and shares the personal histories of British military veterans. Since 2012, we have built a publicly accessible archive of more than 700 filmed interviews and developed strong partnerships across military heritage, education and research.

We are now entering an important next stage in the charity’s development and want to strengthen our Board with new perspectives and expertise.

One of our most exciting current opportunities is Local Heroes, our new education programme which enables young people to film and preserve the stories of people within their own communities. Following successful early delivery, we want to explore how the programme can reach more young people, work effectively across different education and community settings, and contribute to a more sustainable future for the charity.

We are looking for a Trustee who can bring strategic insight from areas such as education, partnerships, business development, programme development or organisational growth.

You might help us think about:

• how we position and communicate our educational work
• what schools, trusts, youth organisations and other partners value
• how we build partnerships that extend our reach
• how programmes such as Local Heroes can develop sustainable income
• how we demonstrate value and impact
• how we scale successfully without losing quality or purpose

Local Heroes will be an important early focus, but the role is broader than one programme. You would contribute alongside your fellow Trustees to the wider strategy, governance and long-term sustainability of Legasee.

This is not an operational role. We are looking for someone who can bring experience, perspective, challenge and good judgement to Board discussions.

Could this role be a good fit for you?

We would particularly welcome people with experience in one or more of the following:

• education leadership or the schools sector
• Multi-Academy Trusts or education networks
• education products, programmes or services
• partnerships or business development
• strategic or organisational development
• proposition or pricing development
• scaling a service or programme
• developing sustainable or diversified income

You do not need experience in all of these areas, and previous trustee experience is not essential.

More important are good judgement, curiosity, a willingness to engage and the confidence to challenge constructively.

We want our Board to benefit from a wider range of backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. We particularly welcome interest from women and from people whose backgrounds and experiences are currently underrepresented within Legasee and charity trusteeship more widely.

Applicants must be eligible to act as a charity trustee in the UK.

Commitment

The Board meets quarterly, primarily online.

Trustees are also encouraged to contribute their expertise between meetings where appropriate, but we recognise that this is a voluntary position and want the commitment to remain realistic and proportionate.

Reasonable expenses associated with the role will be reimbursed.
