LISAL (Lancaster Independent School for Alternative Learning) seeks a Quality of Education Trustee with a passion for alternative education and leadership experience.

You join our committed Board of Trustees to help ensure that we continue to provide the highest quality of child-centred education at our small independent primary school in Lancaster (formerly Lancaster Steiner School). As Quality of Education Trustee, you will provide strategic oversight to ensure that the school follows the highest academic standards. This will involve visits to the school to meet our teaching and leadership team, and observe our teaching methods, alongside participation in occasional online Trustee meetings.

More specifically, you will:

• Evaluate curriculum quality, teaching methods, and learning outcomes, and signpost any scope for improvement.  
• Discuss performance and progress with our senior leadership team (SLT) and ensure that the leadership and management is effective.
• Assure inclusion by affirming that the educational vision supports all students, including those with special educational needs.
• Undertake school visits in which you will engage with staff and pupils to verify internal data.

Who we are looking for

Ideally you will have experience of educational leadership, quality assurance, school improvement, and/or curriculum development, preferably in an alternative setting, including a Steiner-Waldorf school. You will share our objective to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment in which children can flourish. Previous trustee or governance experience is welcome but is not essential.

This is a voluntary, strategic and non-executive role. You will work constructively with the Board of Trustees via regular (termly) online committee meetings, together with at least one school visit per academic year. We will cover any reasonable expenses incurred.

Volunteer Driver (Inscape School, Cheadle) | The Together Trust Volunteering

Purpose of the Role:

To support the delivery of engaging and inclusive football sessions as part of the Baytree Centre’s GEMS programme, which offers after-school clubs for girls aged 5–18, you will work alongside a football coach to help create a safe and supportive environment where girls can develop their skills, build confidence, and enjoy being active. You will escort the girls to an off-site football pitch where a professional coach will lead the session. 

Main Responsibilities:

- Escort the participants from Baytree to the offsite location.

- Support the football coach in delivering engaging, age-appropriate activities that promote learning and personal development.

- Help maintain a supportive atmosphere where girls feel comfortable building confidence and working as a team.

- Assist with administrative tasks such as attendance tracking.

- Adhere to Baytree Centre policies and safeguarding procedures. 

Skills and Qualities Required:

- Empathy and patience to work effectively with girls of varying ages, backgrounds, and abilities. - Strong communication skills to engage positively with participants, other volunteers, and staff. - Creativity and enthusiasm for delivering fun, skills-based activities.

The King’s Trust Mosaic programme is a group mentoring scheme for learners aged 11-18. Mosaic is delivered on-site with school partners and aims to raise learner aspirations, build self-belief, and develop employability skills for young people. 

As a volunteer Education Mentor, you'll join a dynamic team to deliver the Mosaic scheme in a local school. Mosaic is structured as 8 mentoring sessions delivered over 8 weeks that will aim to build group rapport and cover essential topics like communication, goal setting and problem solving. These sessions will be delivered with a consistent group of young people, ensuring you can build meaningful connections and see their progress over time. Most Mosaic projects conclude with a ‘World of Work’ visit with a local employer, giving young participants first-hand experience of what it’s really like in a contemporary UK workplace.

For success in this role, you will need to be an excellent communicator and confident facilitator of group activities, with a willingness to try out new things in a collaborative environment. An educational background is not required, but a genuine interest in engaging with and developing the skills of young people is essential.

Session content and full support is provided to all volunteers via a King’s Trust Youth Development Lead, who can expertly assist with guidance and materials that will help you to make a significant impact on the lives of young people. Full training will be provided to help set you up for success.

In return for your valuable time, you'll become part of a dedicated community of volunteers. You'll experience the satisfaction of directly impacting the success of young people, many of whom face significant barriers and challenges.

Key Considerations:

• This role involves attending a mandatory in-person training session at the King’s Trust Leeds office, along with up to 3 hours of online training.
• Each Mosaic programme runs for eight weeks, with approximately one hour per week spent delivering sessions in schools, plus additional time for planning and preparation.

Learn to Love to Read offers one-to-one support to children who find learning to read challenging, in schools and online via Zoom.Our In-school volunteers are asked to commit 90 minutes, one afternoon a week, usually between 1-3 pm.
Our virtual volunteers are asked to commit 30-60 minutes, one afternoon a week, usually between 4-6 pm.

Full training and ongoing support is provided for all volunteers to provide them with a framework which supports children's reading skills, while also building their self-esteem, confidence and love of reading. Our volunteers support the same children each week, providing 20 minutes of one-to-one support for the whole academic year. This ensures a consistent and rewarding experience for both the volunteer and the children.

In Wandsworth, post-COVID, 20% of Key Stage 1 and 25% of Key Stage 2 children did not reach the expected standard of reading in summer 2025. Low literacy is linked to poverty and social exclusion, limiting options in life. Early literacy intervention is crucial to break this cycle. School closures due to COVID-19 have been tough for children from disadvantaged families.
 

Please note we only work with schools in the London borough of Wandsworth and all our volunteers need to live in or within easy reach of that borough. 

In line with Safer Recruitment, all applicants are asked to complete an application form, provide references, take part in a face-to-face interview and ID check, and attend online training which includes safeguarding. All volunteers must have an enhanced DBS check which we arrange on your behalf. You will also be required to obtain checks from any country in which you've lived for more than three months from the age of 16 in line with Wandsworth's guidance. Genesis Impact is a UK charity working with young people, families, schools and communities. We deliver programmes designed to support educational development, strengthen families and create positive opportunities for young people.

About the Role

We are looking for an organised, proactive and enthusiastic Programmes Intern to support the coordination and delivery of our programmes.

This is a hands-on opportunity for someone looking to gain experience in programme management, the charity sector, education or community development.

You will work alongside the Genesis Impact team to help ensure our programmes are organised, well communicated and delivered effectively.

• Supporting the preparation of programme reports and updates
• Taking meeting notes and following up agreed actions
• Providing general administrative support across the Genesis Impact team

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is organised, reliable and proactive, with strong communication skills and good attention to detail.

You should be comfortable using Microsoft Office or Google Workspace and confident communicating with different people.

You do not need extensive professional experience. This role would suit a student, recent graduate or someone looking to build practical experience in programme management, charities, education or community work.

Experience working with young people, schools, charities or community organisations would be helpful but is not essential.

What You'll Gain

You'll gain practical experience supporting real programmes, working with schools and community partners, coordinating volunteers and understanding how a charity operates day to day.

You'll receive support from the Genesis Impact team, opportunities to take ownership of projects as you develop, and a reference following successful completion of the internship.

Children’s charity Mentor Link is recruiting Volunteer Mentors from the West Midlands and Gloucestershire area to provide one to one support to vulnerable children and young people in schools and the community. Mentor Link are keen to hear from people in business and the community, who would be interested in becoming a Volunteer Mentor to support a young person to achieve their full potential. The mentors are specially trained to listen to and support young people and aim to improve their self- esteem and engagement in learning. The charity has an excellent track record of success in achieving positive outcomes with children and young people.
