Volunteering is and always will be at the heart of Cats Protection. It is joyful and inclusive. As a charity, working in partnership, together we transform the lives of cats, people and communities.

The difference you will make to cats and people

This role concentrates on building relationships with members of the public, encouraging them to consider alternatives to placing their cats up for adoption. You will focus on providing information and support to existing owners who may be experiencing issues with their cat. You’ll also help potential new cat owners who are seeking advice before getting a cat.

You’ll build relationships within the community to engage with cat owners and potential cat owners, for example with vets, other charities, Citizen’s Advice, local authorities etc.

What we need from you

You’ll be:

• Providing information and support to cat owners who may be considering rehoming their cat due to a change in circumstances or cat behaviour issue
• Offer a signposting service, using a comprehensive resource library, information, guidance and support
• Communicating with members of the public to offer support regarding cat ownership by using a variety of mediums eg email, video calls, social media
• Effectively use in-house systems to record outcomes and provide feedback
• Linking with community groups, partners and charities to share key messages about cat ownership
• Linking with other Cats Protection volunteers and employees to share key messages and experiences
• Attending community events (in-person and virtual) to promote key messages

Time expectation

Our supporting cat owners volunteers usually spend four to 10 hours per week in this role, which is flexible and can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

The Prout Bridge Project offers youth, mental-health and community services. It was set up by the community in 2016 in response to cuts in youth and family provision. The scope of our work has evolved in response to our community’s needs through the Covid pandemic and cost-of-living crisis.

We operate from the town of Beaminster in West Dorset, supporting a wider area of villages and towns covering parts of Dorset, Somerset and Devon.

Our aim is to support children, young people and adults to participate, thrive and connect as part of an inclusive and resilient community. 

Multiple essential services are housed under one roof including:

• Safe and supportive youth clubs where our young people can thrive, in sports, music, art, outdoor and other activities. 
• Experienced youth worker mental health support in schools and one-to-one sessions for young people who are struggling + outreach in the town, skatepark and surrounding villages
• A community hub, bringing people together in local social, sports and craft groups + a baby and parent group, providing a safe warm space, and giving easy access to advice services.

We are a small but mighty charity with a dedicated and hard-working Board of Trustees and staff force looking to grow our Board. We would love you to get in touch to find out more.

The Board of Trustees meets around 4-6 times per year and is an unremunerated position.

As a small charity our Trustees play an active and hands on role across a broad spectrum of responsibilities and work closely with the staff team to deliver our charitable objectives.

We’re looking for patient, supportive people who’d like to spend a few hours each week helping others to learn and develop new skills.

As a Learning Support Volunteer, you’ll be part of a welcoming team that helps adults and young people take part in our learning, employability and personal development sessions. You’ll provide encouragement, guidance and reassurance to help participants build confidence and progress at their own pace.

This is a flexible, hands-on role for anyone who enjoys supporting others and wants to make a difference in their community.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Supporting learning and skills sessions led by tutors or facilitators
• Assisting individuals or small groups with practical tasks and exercises
• Encouraging participation and helping build confidence during activities
• Helping prepare materials, resources and session spaces
• Providing friendly reassurance and guidance to learners throughout sessions
• Assisting with feedback collection, attendance and evaluation records

This is a varied and rewarding role for anyone who enjoys helping things run well and being part of a supportive, community-focused team.

• Assisting with registration, attendance and record-keeping
• Collecting feedback and evaluation data to support monitoring and reporting

Our Fulwood, Preston Shop Volunteers are in the middle of it all, and there’s plenty to get involved with. You might be sorting and pricing stock, engaging with customers, ringing items through the till, creating fantastic window displays or keeping our shop floor looking organised.

It’s up to you how much you commit. We have volunteers who support for a couple of hours a week and some do more. Many people volunteer either a morning or an afternoon each week - this is something that will be discussed at the selection stage, after you’ve applied.

Life in a rescue environment is never ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Our cat adoption team leaders support cat homing and as part of this they may lead a team of volunteer home visitors who collectively play an important part in matching our feline friends with their new families. Our cat adoption team leaders support their team of volunteers in all aspects of their roles, making sure our volunteers are happy, confident and supported.

• Acting as the main point of contact within the team for cat adoption enquiries via email/telephone and social media
• Supporting the adoption process through either homefinder questionnaires or a small team of home visitors
• Liaising closely with other volunteers to ensure information on cats being helped is correct and up to date
• Following up on any post-adoption queries
• Play an active part in the volunteer committee, being part of the team leading on cat adoption information and updates
• Collaborating with the cat welfare team leader to ensure the highest standards of cat care are applied in line with Cats Protection policy and procedures

Time expectation

The cat adoption team leader role is vital within our busy volunteer teams. Our current volunteers spend around 10 to 12 hours per week in this flexible role, which can be shared by more than one volunteer if required.

What you will be doing

• Arranging to talk with potential beneficiaries (on the phone or face to face) at a mutually convenient time
• Understanding peoples’ support needs and gathering information to assess their circumstances
• Typing written case reports to apply for financial assistance
• Sign-posting to services providing specialist support, such as mental health or housing support
• Keeping beneficiaries and the SSAFA regional office up to date with progress

What you will be doing

• Arranging to talk with potential beneficiaries (on the phone or face to face) at a mutually convenient time
• Understanding peoples’ support needs and gathering information to assess their circumstances
• Typing written case reports to apply for financial assistance
• Sign-posting to services providing specialist support, such as mental health or housing support
• Keeping beneficiaries and the SSAFA regional office up to date with progress
