What will you be doing?
As governor, trustee and director, you will have an active role in setting strategic direction and overseeing the educational performance, management and financial health of the school and the charity.
We are particularly looking for individuals with a background in residential care or safeguarding as well as those who have experience in the areas of deaf education and finance. We will however consider applications from those with a passion for what we do who do not have any of these areas of expertise, and especially those with prior trustee experience, will be actively considered.
Most governor/trustees attend two or three meetings a term, generally Monday to Friday during the working day, either online or in person. Additionally, visits into school are organised on a termly basis. Each term of office is for four years and can be renewed twice.
What are we looking for?

Trustees help steer St Petrocs in the right direction by offering support and constructive challenge to the leadership team. They ensure decision-making is fair and effective, always balancing the needs of the people we support with the responsible use of our resources. Through their guidance, trustees help us stay focused on our mission and create lasting change.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to meet the Chair, Vice-Chairs and Chief Executive on Monday 16th March 2026. Successful candidates will be invited to participate as a guest in the Board Meeting taking place on Wednesday 25th March, prior to consideration for formal approval by the board.

What are the time commitments?
- Induction: New trustees complete an induction program, which includes visits to our services and meetings with staff to get up to speed. Whether you have previous experience as a trustee or are completely new to the role, we will provide an induction and ongoing training to ensure you understand and can fulfil your role.
- Term Length: Trustees serve for a three-year term, which can be renewed.
- Board Meetings: The board meets quarterly, with additional meetings as needed. These are typically on Wednesday mornings for about two hours at our office in Truro, Cornwall. Meetings are scheduled in advance for the entire year and documents are sent out two weeks before each meeting. Online links to meetings are also available.
- Ongoing Involvement: Trustees are kept up to date with regular information on client services, finance and other important matters. The usual commitment for time is between 1-2 days per month, which includes the time needed to prepare for and attend meetings.
- Events: Trustees are invited to attend events throughout the year to support and represent St Petrocs.
Who would make a great trustee?
At St Petrocs, we believe that great trustees bring a variety of skills, perspectives and life experiences. Our board is made up of individuals with expertise in areas such as law, social care, education, health, business, finance and lived experience of homelessness. We regularly review the board’s composition to ensure we have the right mix of skills to guide our work effectively.
Following a recent audit, the board has identified a gap and is therefore specifically seeking to fill one of the two vacancies with a trustee who has strong skills and understanding of the digital sector. This individual will bring valuable insight into areas such as digital strategy, technology, data, and online engagement, helping to ensure the organisation is well-equipped to navigate an increasingly digital landscape.

This is a befriending role to visit a 75-year-old die hard Watford FC fan in Borehamwood. He is looking for a man to join him at home for a cup of tea, to watch Final Score with him, and in time perhaps take him in his wheelchair to feed the ducks nearby or to Church on a Sunday.
His mobility and verbal communication are limited, so patience and a loud, clear voice are key. It may take some time to get to know one another, but soon enough you’ll find you can get an enthusiastic thumbs up for football talk and maybe even a cheeky grin if you make an impressive joke!
We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.
This will start as a Stop and Stay visit role, meaning that the person you’ll be visiting might have some verbal communication skills or they use sounds and/or facial/body expressions to communicate with you. The person you visit might choose to take part in simple activities or watch you doing the activities. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tend to be around half an hour to an hour long.
In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:
- Sitting and having a chat
- Checking in on their well- being
- A craft activity at home
- Reading a book/magazine together

As a volunteer Charity Shop Assistant, you would join a small team working with the shop manager and 1-2 other volunteers to help make it a success and raise vital funds for animal welfare.

What We’re Looking For:
- Friendly, local volunteers who are confident talking to people.
- Retail experience would be ideal but is not necessary as full training will be given.
- We are ideally aiming for someone who is flexible and can offer an ongoing commitment, preferably 8 hours per week.
- Good communication skills and numeracy skills.
- You will need to be aged 16 or over.

Share’s trustee team has responsibility for overseeing strategy and performance. Share currently has eight trustees, and is looking to recruit up to three more with the enthusiasm, skills and commitment we need to help guide Share through the next phase of its development. Trustees are supported by Share’s Senior Leadership Team led by the Chief Executive.
The full Board meets six times a year. Meetings are in person and usually take place in the evening, with the exception of an annual away day. In addition, Trustees will usually sit on one of our Board Sub-Committees which meet four times a year with meetings taking place virtually.
Who we are looking for

The Cathedral Safeguarding Committee acts as ‘critical friend’ and provides constructive challenge to the Chapter of Worcester Cathedral regarding the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. Its role is to support Chapter in meeting their safeguarding obligations for the Cathedral and its activities, including safer recruitment, and to provide assurance to Chapter that the Cathedral’s safeguarding arrangements are fit for purpose.
The duties and responsibilities of the Safeguarding Committee are laid down in the Safeguarding Committee Terms of Reference.
Responsibilities
- to provide independent perspectives on safeguarding policy and practice at Worcester Cathedral.
- to work with the chair and Cathedral staff to ensure that the Cathedral’s safeguarding functions are being carried out effectively.
- to offer support and challenge to executive members of the committee to ensure the centrality of a robust safeguarding culture in the Cathedral’s mission and its operations.
- to take a full part in Safeguarding Committee meetings and in agreeing and monitoring of strategic and operational plans to ensure effective performance and achievement of national standards.
Commitment
Meetings: The Safeguarding Committee meets formally 4 times per year (usually during the daytime, although times may vary). The duration of meetings is a maximum of two hours.
Papers are received in advance and all members of the Safeguarding Committee are expected to have read the papers and be prepared to contribute as needed to discussion.
Expenses can be claimed for attendance at meetings or carrying out functions on behalf of the Committee.
Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential
- Recent, direct and extensive professional safeguarding experience and expertise at a senior level in a relevant statutory, voluntary or judicial agency (for example Local Authority Children and Adult Service, Police, National Children’s Charity).
- A willingness to promote and represent as needed the work of the Safeguarding Committee in the Cathedral and outside.
Desirable
- Experience of child or adult safeguarding in a church / faith context.
- Experience of case reviews, risk management and engagement and leadership of strategic partnerships.
Skills, competencies and abilities
Essential
- Experience of analysing complex situations and advising appropriately.
- Experience of working constructively with a wide range of parties, including staff in the statutory and voluntary sectors.
- Experience of dealing sensitively and appropriately with confidential information.

Governors for Schools recruits and matches volunteers with school governing boards and provides ongoing support.
What’s involved?
There are governor vacancies across England and Wales. Some schools are also looking for remote governors who don't need to live near the school they support.
Governors volunteer at board level to set the strategic vision for their school. This involves constructively challenging current processes, using your unique skills to support senior leaders, and overseeing school finances. You’ll be involved in areas such as monitoring, budget management, and data analysis. As well as putting your expertise to good use, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your professional skills. Ultimately, you’ll work towards facilitating the delivery of a broad and exciting curriculum and oversee wellbeing and inclusion initiatives. Governance represents a fantastic opportunity to develop yourself while making a real impact on the education of children and young people.
Governors work collaboratively with the headteacher and other members of the board, including parents and school staff. In most schools, full board meetings are held termly, as are committee meetings. Many governors will sit on a committee linked to their expertise or interests, such as teaching and learning or finance and resources. In addition to attending meetings, governors will need to read the papers in advance, complete training courses, and occasionally visit their school.
Governors usually support schools for a period of four years and with an estimated time commitment of 7 hours per month. During these hours, you will attend meetings, read papers, attend training sessions, and make occasional visits to school.
Who can be a governor?
The most important part of being a governor is the ability to ask questions, provide support and have the best interests of the school at heart. You don't have to be a parent or have experience in education to become a governor. Schools seek a wide range of skills to support the board, including finance, HR, and data analysis.
Boards also need governors with a diversity of backgrounds and lived experiences to ensure a range of perspectives are considered during board meetings.
Schools welcome professional experience, as well as community insight and experience of working collaboratively.
You need to be aged 18 or above and there are certain criminal convictions that would exclude you from the role. A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be carried out by the school.
What’s the process?

You can complete your online profile on the website, including your motivation to take on the role, your skills and your school preferences. Your regional Partnership Manager will then look at vacancies that match your requirements. Once a school is identified, you will have the opportunity to discuss the role with them in more detail, visit the school, and observe a meeting. If appointed, a DBS check will take place and, in some cases, the school will seek references.
