Training management volunteer roles

We are looking for a friendly, patient befriending volunteer to visit a lovely gentleman in New Southgate. He is keen to find an attentive listener who will show an interest in hearing his imaginative stories and will giggle at his jokes. He would love for someone to accompany him to McDonalds for a treat, to join him in a bit of music trivia, or sometimes for just a cup of tea and a chit chat.

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

This is an Out and about visit role which means your visits are likely to be longer, very active and the person you visit will often take an active part in planning your outings and activities in the community. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around a couple of hours, sometimes shorter or longer, depending on what you plan to do.

In this role you will spend quality time with the person you visit and could do a range of different activities like:

- Sitting and having a chat

- Checking in on their well- being

- Going out to a local café/pub for a meal/drink

- Take part on community activities like visiting a place of interest, go shopping etc.

- Enjoying a walk

- A craft activity at home

Screen Share is the leading refugee digital inclusion charity in the UK. Our mission is to ensure every refugee in the UK has a connected device and the skills to use it to achieve their goals.

Trustee: Charity Trading and Commercialisation 

Our fundraising strategy prioritises corporate and trading income. That strategy is complemented by our trading income strategy, which seeks to invest in traded services which support our mission, including digital inclusion services, IT Repair, IT Leasing and IT Asset Disposal. We have good experience in these areas and are looking for a trustee to oversee and significantly contribute to decision-making regarding when and how to enter these markets. The postholder will ideally be a current or former leader of a social enterprise or charity that trades, who can provide the board with the expertise it needs to make informed decisions. This trustee will bring relevant insight on sustainable income diversification and fundraising strategy. 

Trustee: Digital Governance 

We handle sensitive client data, and act as a processor for sanitising donated devices. This creates significant cybersecurity, data protection responsibilities. We have a cybersecurity strategy, dedicated staff time and also receive pro-bono support to discharge those responsibilities effectively, but we need a trustee with expertise to provide genuine oversight in this area and represent the position at board level. Strong candidates will bring expertise in data governance, cybersecurity policy or digital risk management. We would particularly welcome candidates who bring expertise in digital inclusion alongside this. 

Trustee: Safeguarding 

As we scale up across the UK, we are making the intentional decision to deepen our relationship with our clients. We work with some of the most vulnerable people in the UK, so our board needs to be confident that we are providing proper oversight of how we keep them safe in the context of support. We are looking for a trustee with governance-level safeguarding experience who understands safeguarding frameworks and legislation, can scrutinise our policies and procedures, and hold our staff team to account in this area. This trustee will lead our Safeguarding sub-committee.

Roles available: Three trustee positions: Charity Trading and Commercialisation; Digital Governance; Safeguarding
Commitment: Approx 32 hours per year (see breakdown below)

Basis Yorkshire is seeking a committed and values-driven individual to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer. This is an opportunity to support a long-standing, specialist organisation working alongside sex workers and people experiencing sexual exploitation across Yorkshire.

Basis has over three decades of experience delivering trauma-informed, non-judgemental support, advocacy, outreach and education. We work with people across all sectors of the sex industry, as well as young people and adults at risk of or experiencing sexual exploitation. Our approach is rooted in dignity, agency, social justice and harm reduction, with the voices and experiences of the people we support at the centre of everything we do.

As Treasurer Trustee, you will play a key role in supporting the Board’s oversight of the charity’s financial health, sustainability and governance. While professional financial qualifications are not required, we are looking for someone who is confident in scrutinising financial information, asking constructive questions, and contributing to strategic decision-making.

We are particularly interested in individuals who share our commitment to challenging stigma and inequality, and who can bring thoughtful, independent judgment to Board discussions. As part of this initiative, we are seeking a Bid Writer to support Quilombo UK in securing vital funding and resources to further our mission. Martlets, Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House have collection tins hosted by a wide variety of businesses across Worthing, Sussex, Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas. Our tins continue to play an important role in raising money and awareness for the hospices so that we can continue to provide specialist care.

These tins need to be collected, replaced, and returned to our fundraising offices or shops on a regular basis. With collections expected to be completed on a 6-8 week cycle.

We are looking for friendly, reliable people to help us with this important fundraising and community liaison role.

You will be the face of the Fundraising team in your locality, representing the hospices when collecting. This is a chance to involve yourself with the community by building a relationship with our collection tin hosts and keeping them up to date with any news from us.

• Guide people to feel confident using their own devices
• Answer questions and troubleshoot problems

There are a variety of tasks that you can get involved with in the shop, including:

• Welcoming and assisting customers, providing great customer service and a fantastic shopping experience
• Receiving donated goods from members of the public
• Sorting, steaming, tagging and preparing donated goods for sale
• Creating eye catching window and in-shop displays
• Keeping the shop floor well stocked, tidy, clean and organised
• Processing sales and serving on the till
• Promoting Gift Aid and other Sense fundraising initiatives
• Acting as an ambassador for Sense; promoting the shop and Sense in your local community
• Supporting with the recruitment and training of new volunteers
• Following new health and safety measures to ensure the safety of everyone

Oxfam's Barnard Castle Shop is looking for Shop Volunteers to help Oxfam’s fight to support the world’s most vulnerable communities.

We’re looking for volunteers who can give 4-8 hours (or more!) of their time in the shop each week, and we’re excited to welcome brand new volunteers to our stores!

Right now, we're looking for people to help in the shop in us with our ecommerce/online department!

Location: Oxfam 1 Horsemarket, Barnard Castle DL12 8LY

What You'll Be Doing

No two events are the same! You could be:

• Welcoming visitors and helping create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere.
• Supporting disabled people and their families to take part in activities with confidence.
• Getting involved in arts, crafts, games, and creative activities.
• Helping set up and pack down event spaces.
• Running activity stalls, information stands, or family-friendly games.
• Sharing information about Sense and the support we provide.
• Assisting with fundraising activities at community events.
• Working alongside staff and fellow volunteers to ensure events run smoothly.

We'll regularly share upcoming volunteering opportunities with you, and you can choose the events that match your interests, location, and availability.
