Our partner is a UK registered charity with an international footprint, working to advance access to justice and promote equality by supporting vulnerable communities, strengthening civil society, and advocating for inclusive policies.

The Treasurer will join the Board of Trustees and provide strategic oversight of the organisation’s financial management and long term sustainability. Working closely with the Chair, Chief Executive, senior leadership team and external auditors, the Treasurer will oversee budgets, financial reporting and risk management, and ensure compliance with charity and company law. The Treasurer will also chair the Finance Committee and contribute actively to the wider strategic direction of the organisation.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified finance professional with strong experience in financial management, audit or governance, and the confidence to operate at board level. You will be able to explain financial information clearly to non financial trustees, exercise sound judgement, and bring a collaborative and pragmatic approach. Experience of working with charities, civil society organisations, or internationally focused organisations would be particularly valuable.

This is a rewarding trustee role with an estimated time commitment of around 20 hours per year. The role is voluntary, with reasonable travel expenses covered, and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to an organisation working for social justice and systemic change.

You must be a member of the National Trust upon application to be eligible for the role.

Working Pattern

Council members are elected from November 2026 for three years, and can expect to spend about ten days a year on Council business. There are three Council meetings a year, including one which is held as part of a three-day visit hosted by one of our regions or countries (England, Wales and Northern Ireland).

Meetings are a mix of in person and virtual.  The time commitment for this role is spread across these activities and includes time for preparation.  There is also the opportunity to get more involved if you wish with additional briefings, property visits or by supporting the work of the Council’s committees.

The British Racing School [BRS] provides education and training for those employed in or seeking employment in the horseracing industry, primarily young people. The Trustee Board is currently seeking to appoint an additional trustee. It is the boards policy to increase the ethnic diversity of its Trustee Board, in order that the Board better reflects the Charity’s beneficiaries and to realise the benefits that diverse leadership brings.

Operating as a charity, the BRS derives a sizeable percentage of its income from charitable donations, and we are specifically seeking a Trustee with significant experience of fundraising at strategic and operational levels to bolster our expertise in this area and help shape the overall fundraising strategy.

A genuine interest in improving the life chances of young people through education and training is a paramount requirement. In addition, the BRS Board is looking for a Trustee who can think strategically about the BRS’ activities and employ their own insights and experience for the benefit of the Board and the management team.

The current Board will provide newly appointed Trustees with a comprehensive induction programme.

The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to add value outside their natural areas of expertise and demonstrate motivation to effectively contribute to the BRS.

Personal qualities are important to the BRS – the successful candidate will be pragmatic and intellectually curious with sound people judgement, high emotional intelligence and strong listening skills. It is critical that the successful candidate possesses an open and collaborative style which matches the current culture and values of both the BRS and the Board.

An enhanced DBS check will also be required as will a minimum of 2 professional references. This is a voluntary role; reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The commitment required is usually in-person attendance at 5 meetings, along with attendance at 4 online meetings per year.

Buses are a lifeline for blind and partially sighted people. They help people with sight loss maintain independence, stay connected with friends and family, and access work, education, healthcare, and leisure opportunities. Yet in Wales, only one in ten blind and partially sighted people can make all the journeys they need by bus.

To change this, RNIB Cymru is working with bus companies to ensure drivers understand how to support passengers with sight loss. Our Swap with Me sessions bring bus drivers and blind or partially sighted people together to share experiences and learn practical skills.

We need participants with lived experience of sight loss who use buses to attend these sessions in Bangor and / or Rhyl and share their insights. You’ll help drivers understand the challenges and solutions for accessible travel and take part in practical exercises where drivers experience what it’s like to travel with sight loss.

Training and support will be provided as part of RNIB’s volunteer induction process. Reasonable expenses will be available to fulfil the role.

When and where needed:
In person – Wednesday 11th March 2026 in Rhyl, 10am – 2pm. Wednesday 18th March 2026 in Bangor, 10am – 2pm.
Sessions will be repeated every 3 months.

Medact organises the health community to work towards a world in which everyone is able to live healthy, dignified lives, supported by political and economic systems that centre health justice. Our priority work areas are some of the most pressing threats to health and wellbeing, including ending state violence, housing & energy justice, and migrant access to healthcare. Medact seeks systemic solutions to major social problems, and is unafraid to hold decision-makers to account. We launched our new five-year strategy at the end of 2025, embedding our vision for how we win and how we grow.

We’re member-led, and our membership spans a range of people who work in health, including nurses, doctors, midwives and clinical researchers, as well as people from the wider health community.

About the role

Our Board of Trustees provides guidance, governance and final sign-off on major decisions on behalf of our membership. Trustees are collectively responsible for the governance of the organisation in line with the requirements of the Charity Commission. Trustees also contribute to the development of Medact's strategy and participate in a range of other activities to support the Director and staff with our work.

There are four planned board meetings per year, which are hybrid, and it is expected that each Trustee will attend most Board meetings. Trustees are also sometimes asked to give their views or sign off on issues between Board meetings if an issue cannot wait. It is hoped that each Trustee will have the capacity to use their unique skills to support the team more broadly with Medact’s work.

As Chair, you will support the Executive Director and staff to help build on our achievements and realise Medact’s vision. You will work with fellow Trustees to make up a strong and effective Board governing the Charity. 

Acting as a Trustee is a voluntary role but reasonable travel expenses can be paid. 

Who we are looking for

Our current Board brings a broad range of skills, but we recognise that we do not yet reflect the diversity of the health community. There are also specific types of experience and expertise we would like more of on the Board. In particular, we are looking for potential Trustees with one or more of the following attributes:

• Lived experience of an issue that Medact campaigns on, for instance the Hostile Environment, the health impacts of economic or housing injustice, the health impacts of armed conflict or UK security policies

• Experience as a frontline health worker of any sort, preferably current

• Legal and safeguarding expertise

• Fundraising expertise, particularly individual giving or major donor fundraising

• Human resources expertise

As Chair, you will be actively networked within the health community or broader social justice movement and highly experienced in governance or strategic leadership of a charity or NGO. You will have the skills to line-manage the Executive Director. And you will have the ability to advocate on behalf of Medact’s work, as well as helping to build the membership and public image of the organisation. 

We hope all Trustees will: 

• Share our vision for a fairer and safer world, and our analysis of the transformational change needed to get closer to it

• Approach Board discussions and conversations with the team with an open mind, able to listen to and genuinely engage with others’ views

• Display collaborative behaviours which promote harmony and good team working which supports Medact to be an effective, well-governed organisation

Previous experience on a charity board or in another governance role is useful but by no means essential. The British Geriatrics Society is seeking to appoint a new lay Trustee 

The British Geriatrics Society is the professional membership organisation for doctors, nurses and other healthcare specialists working to provide healthcare for older people across the UK. We have more than 5,600 multidisciplinary members working in acute, primary and community care, united by a mission to improve the healthcare of older people.  We are a registered charity and limited company based in Farringdon in Central London, with members in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England.

The population is ageing. More people are living for longer, often with long-term conditions such as frailty or dementia. Older people are the population group who use the health service the most. Although there is a strong evidence base for what good care of older people should be, this is not being delivered everywhere, and too many older people find themselves at the mercy of a NHS system that does not work well for their needs. The BGS has a proud 80-year history of supporting the specialist workforce in older people’s healthcare. We are needed more than ever now, to ensure that services for older people across the UK are integrated, joined-up and effective. Why not see for yourself by joining our Board as a lay trustee? The role

We are seeking to appoint a new lay trustee to succeed one of our two lay trustees who completes his term of office in July 2026. The BGS Trustee Board has twelve charity trustees, ten of whom are healthcare professionals, who lead different aspects of the BGS’s work. The Board is chaired by the BGS President, Professor Jugdeep Dhesi. In addition to the trustees, other senior officers, such as the Vice-Presidents, contribute to Board meetings. The BGS has a staff team of 16 who are paid, but all other roles are undertaken on a voluntary basis.  

Trustees perform the following functions:

• Contributing to the strategic direction of the British Geriatrics Society (BGS), setting overall policy, defining goals, and setting targets and evaluating performance
• Providing governance to ensure compliance with charity law and good practice
• Scrutinising board papers, contributing to discussions, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives
• Supporting, constructively challenging, and motivating the Chief Executive and other senior staff
• Acting as a BGS ambassador, to promote the Society, the specialty and older people’s healthcare.
• Safeguarding the charity’s assets, including its financial sustainability
• Working in a collegiate way with fellow Board members to support the Chair and to provide timely, robust decision-making and leadership.

The person 

The incoming lay trustee will:

• Be committed to the BGS mission of improving the healthcare of older people
• Have a good understanding of charities and charity governance, most likely through prior experience of being a trustee
• Have the ability to be strategic and collegiate
• Have some commercial experience to help the BGS in its goal of earning more income
• Have professional experience from one or more of the following areas: health or social care commissioning; charity senior management or trusteeship; policy influencing; digital strategy; business.

The BGS supports equality, diversity and inclusion. We value the independent perspective that lay trustees bring to this voluntary role.

The new lay member of the Trustee Board will join the BGS in time for the Board awayday in London on 30 July 2026. Their term of office will be two years, with the potential for a second term of two years.

Our trustees are unpaid, but we pay travel and other out of pocket expenses. We provide an induction to the BGS’s work. There are four Board meetings a year, with at least one held online. The in-person meeting in July includes a Board workshop.

Toad Hall Animal Care – Saturdays Volunteer

About The Role

By caring for amphibians and supporting the Toad Hall exhibit, this role plays a vital part in conservation education and biodiversity protection. Volunteers help raise awareness of wetland species and the threats they face by engaging the public through interactive presentations, inspiring visitors to value and support wetland conservation.

What will you be doing:

• General animal husbandry such as feeding, water changes, and exhibit maintenance.
• Data recording for life support systems.
• General maintenance of public and back of house areas
• Helping with new projects and stock management.
• Conducting interactive presentations to engage the general public in the work of WWT, the amphibians in the Toad Hall exhibit, and wider conservation messages (training provided)
• Research and observations recording
• Adhering to all bio-security and hygiene protocols across the Living Collections

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team. You’ll get a warm welcome, including information on training, equipment and anything else you need. We are particularly looking for volunteers to support us on Saturdays.

There are two parts to this role: assisting with daily animal management duties in the Living Collections department and engaging our visitors on the amphibians and the work of Living Collection. Both aspects are equally important, and so we are looking for volunteers with the following:

• Basic animal husbandry knowledge, with a particular interest in amphibians would be advantageous
• Excellent customer service skills; confidence and enthusiasm when engaging the public
• Good physical health – this role will involve some manual handling
• Good attention to detail and able to follow instructions
• The ability to work on your own initiative under the direction of the Ectotherm team, following strict animal care protocols.

The role would be enjoyable for those who love working closely with animals, educating others, and gaining hands-on experience in an internationally important wetland site.  This role is particularly for those that are able to volunteer with us on Saturday as we are keen to boost our team on that day, other days may be available through other advertised roles.
 
Please note that this role is not suitable for those under the age of 18.

Ideally, we are looking for a commitment of at least one day a week for a minimum of 3 months but can be flexible dependent on the volunteer’s needs.
