Are you someone who loves getting creative, catching a show, or simply enjoying a good chat over coffee and cake? Maybe you enjoy painting, crafting, or exploring local galleries, or perhaps you love trying new cafés, going for walks, or just sharing stories and laughs. As a volunteer visitor, you can turn your passions into friendship, spending quality time with someone who’ll appreciate your company, your hobbies, and your enthusiasm.

We offer a lifelong befriending service for adults with learning disabilities. Matching the skills and interests of passionate visitors with the specific hobbies and interests of the people we visit. Visitors visit six times a year to create a 1-2-1 connection, offer companionship, encourage people to do the things they enjoy and check-in on their wellbeing. In many cases, the visitor is the only person in someone’s life who isn’t paid to be there for them.

This is an Out and about visit role which means your visits are likely to be longer, very active and the person you visit will often take an active part in planning your outings and activities in the community. Your volunteer manager will be happy to help you with ideas and suggestions for things you can do. Visits will vary in length but tends to be around a couple of hours, sometimes shorter or longer, depending on what you plan to do.

Hospital Visitor Volunteer 

Hospital Visitor volunteers visit hospital settings to ensure that people detained under the Mental Health Act are aware that they have a legal right to an IMHA qualified advocate.  The volunteers are instrumental in ensuring that clients get access to an advocate and can also support the work that advocates undertake. 

As a hospital volunteer, you might:

• attend events and ward meetings at local facilities
• share information
• assist people to request advocacy support by completing a form online or calling our contact centre

All volunteering will take place Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 17:00.  You will need to be over 18 years old and be living in the UK. Please note that there is no opportunity to volunteer at weekends or in the evening.

Community Companions support patients by offering befriending. It’s a gratifying role for someone reliable, a good listener, and with a few hours during the working week to spare. We provide a comprehensive training package and ongoing peer support sessions. We ask for a commitment of at least six months for two hours a week.

This role does not involve offering counsel, providing clinical care, or giving advice or information. You will be signposting to professional support where needed.

Specific Responsibilities of the Treasurer

• Ensure the charity’s financial affairs are legal, constitutional, and in line with accepted accounting practice and Charity Commission guidelines

• Oversee accurate record-keeping and effective financial procedures and controls

• Lead the Finance Sub-Group (with the CEO and Finance Manager) to monitor financial health and report key updates at Board meetings (e.g. income/expenditure, balance sheet, cash flow, reserves)

• Oversee the timely preparation of the annual budget and recommend its adoption to the Board

• Guide trustees in assessing the financial viability of plans, proposals, and feasibility studies

• Ensure financial resources meet both present and future needs

• Maintain a robust overview of financial risks facing the charity

• Oversee the production of financial reports, returns, accounts, and independent examinations

Relevant Person’s Representative (RPR) Support Volunteer - role in Cheshire West

People in care homes should have a voice to communicate their needs wishes and wants. Some people need support with this, but don’t have friends and family available to assist them.  This means they’re entitled to have support from an RPR and volunteer, who are there to make sure they get the care they deserve.  Your role as an RPR Support Volunteer is to collaborate with the VoiceAbility RPR to make sure a person’s views are listened to when decisions are made about their care.

As an RPR Support Volunteer you might:

• Visit people in their care home, to make sure they’re getting the right care and support
• Talk with them about their feelings, thoughts and wishes
• Raise concerns
• Keep detailed notes and records
• Make a real difference to someone’s life

Are you passionate about the world of gaming? STAMMA’s Minecraft club is a project which aims to bring young people aged 7-14 who stammer together through the exciting world of Minecraft! Our club plays in a private virtual realm where we can build exciting creations and collaborate on imaginative group projects. And you can be part of it too!

We know that the world can feel like a lonely place for young people who stammer. We want to help people connect and show them how great being part of the stammering community can be.

We’re looking for people to join us to be Minecraft session leaders. We’ll support you to lead short 1-hour ‘play together’ sessions in our virtual world 2x a month on a Tuesday or Thursday evening 6-7pm.

Please note that this volunteer role is only open to people who are resident in the UK.

Basic information

Hours: 3 hours a month plus one quarterly catch-up session on Zoom (amounts to 2 sessions a month of 1.5 hours)

Day and time: A regular slot on either Monday/Thursdays 5.45-7.15pm (session runs 6-7pm)

Commitment: We hope that you will enjoy this role and commit at least 12 months to the position

What does the role involve?

As a Minecraft Session leader, we’re hoping you’ll feel comfortable to:

•  Run a ‘play together’ session for young people who stammer either on your own or with another session leader. Sessions are usually run by two volunteers working in partnership.
• Help to keep our Minecraft realm a friendly space for everyone.
•  Support new players, such as showing them around the world, introducing them to other players and answering any questions they have.
• Helping families to set up Minecraft on their device and access the session for the first time.

What support would you get?

We'll help you through a training programme, which will include online training modules and some shadowing. This training is likely to take around 5-6 hours in total and can be completed in bite-sized amounts to suit your schedule. We will also provide ongoing support through our quarterly catch up sessions for Minecraft session volunteers to share experiences and explore any concerns or challenges.

What would you need?

• A quiet place where you can work in privacy and not be overheard during calls
• A console/computer with Minecraft installed
• A second device where you can take part in a Zoom call
• Stable internet connection which supports gaming

Who might enjoy this volunteer role?

You’re likely to enjoy volunteering with our Minecraft groups if you:

• Are experienced at playing Minecraft.
• Enjoy listening and talking to young people.
• Have a genuine curiosity about people and their experiences.
• Are passionate about making the world a better place for people who stammer.

It’s not essential to stammer if you are interested in volunteering with us, but you may particularly enjoy this role if you do. Your personal experience of stammering can be very useful!

Other Information

As a volunteer you can, of course, step back from the role at any time. However, both you and the Minecraft club are likely to get most out of the opportunity if you’re able to volunteer with us for at least 12 months. By gradually learning and developing your confidence in the role, you can have the biggest impact.

This is a volunteer role and is unpaid. As this is a role where you will be working with children and young people, we will need you to complete a DBS check with us before you can lead any sessions on your own.

We are looking for volunteers who can join our Me Time groups on weekdays for a few hours to support with our activities.

Our Me Time service provides local people with a learning disability the chance to learn through activities - indoor and in the community - have fun, and make new friends during the week.

The role would involve supporting us with our activities during the day. We have lots of different activities, these could include:

• Gardening
• Arts and crafts
• Bowling
• Cooking
• Physical activity
• Technology skills sessions
• Poetry
• And lots more!

You don’t have to have experience in any or all of the sessions we run, just willing to keep an open mind and a friendly attitude.

When do I need to be available? The role is flexible, if you can only give us a few hours a week on certain weekdays we would really appreciate it. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds.

As a weekly activity support volunteer, you will need to provide us with two references and a DBS. By volunteering with us you will be helping local people with a learning disability have fun, learn new skills through activities, and you will be making a huge difference!

We are a small charity with a BIG vision and are looking for new Trustees to help us to remove the barriers Disabled people face. As a user-led charity, we are particularly looking for people with lived experience of Disability, people who have experience of the health & social care system and/or a parent/carer of a Disabled young person. We would also welcome someone with experience in HR and Law.

No prior trustee experience is required, we can provide training and mentoring. All you need is enthusiasm, a desire to learn and time to commit to the work of Ruils.

All trustees will receive a full Induction and training is available. Travel expenses are also covered.

We currently have hybrid meetings and 6 full board meetings per year with the expectation that each Trustee attends one subcommittee every other month.

1. Background 

ActionAid’s Red and Orange Alert protocols are designed to guide communications in humanitarian emergencies, ensuring timely, accurate, and coordinated outputs across the global federation. These protocols play a critical role in mobilising public attention, fundraising, and shaping narratives. However, questions have emerged around efficiency, resourcing, wellbeing, integration with wider organisational work, and alignment with ActionAid UK’s 2025–2028 strategy and ActionAid’s international strategic framework (SIF 3). 

This review will assess the current Red and Orange Alert communications protocols, identify strengths, challenges and key successes, and recommend revisions to strengthen their effectiveness, sustainability, and alignment with organisational priorities. 

2. Objectives 

1. Review the existing Red and Orange Alert communications protocols to assess their relevance, effectiveness, and unintended consequences.
2. Make recommendations for a revised protocol, including clearer structures for delegated authority, risk/crisis communications, staff wellbeing, and integration with wider organisational priorities. 

3. Scope of work 

ActionAid is looking for a qualified consultant or company to undertake a review of ActionAid’s communications work in humanitarian emergencies

The review will: 

• Use our existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as a starting point.
• Examine how ActionAid's existing “Red and Orange” Alert protocols function in practice across ActionAid UK and the Global Secretariat.
• Assess the resources required to activate alerts, including staff time, budget, and outputs, and analyse the value generated for the organisation particularly against ActionAid UK’s new strategy and SIF 3.
• Explore the unintended consequences of the protocols, including:
• Impact on staff wellbeing and risk of burnout.
• The extent to which Red Alerts are siloed or disconnected from other organisational priorities.
• Investigate gaps in managing reputational risk during highly volatile and politicised humanitarian crises
• Who is responsible for risk and how is authority currently delegated
• What processes currently exist.
• What risks does AAUK face, internally and externally
• Recommendations for a clear and sustainable reputational risk framework  

4. Methodology 

The review team will: 

• Gain an understanding of AA's wider organisational work, to ensure the reviews alignment with ActionAid UK’s 2025–2028 strategy and ActionAid’s international strategic framework (SIF 3).
• Conduct document analysis of the existing MOU, alert protocols, and sample case studies of recent alerts.
• Carry out interviews or focus groups with key stakeholders, including:
• ActionAid UK Red Alert staff.
• Global Secretariat Orange Alert staff.
• Fundraising colleagues.
• Other relevant ActionAid staff who engage in emergency communications.
• Collect and analyse data on staff time, budget allocations, outputs, and outcomes linked to past alerts.
• Synthesize findings into a diagnostic report with recommendations. 

5. Deliverables

6. Governance & Management 

• The review will be commissioned by ActionAid UK and coordinated with the Global Secretariat.
• Oversight will be provided by the Co-CEOs office.
• The review team will report regularly to the commissioning manager at ActionAid UK. 

7. Timeline 

The review is expected to run over a period of 14 weeks starting on as soon as possible, although there is some flexibility on the timetable. A detailed timeline will be agreed during inception. 

5. Required skills and experience  

The applicants should demonstrate the following:  

Essential 

• Track record in communications for humanitarian and emergency contexts within international NGOs
• Experience in designing and conducting evaluations, reviews, with a focus on communications, advocacy, and fundraising impact.
• Analytical and synthesis skills – able to combine qualitative and quantitative data into clear, evidence-based findings and actionable recommendations
• Demonstrated ability to apply decolonial, feminist, intersectional, and anti-racist approaches in research and evaluation.
• Project management skills, political and cultural sensitivity, with experience working on communications in sensitive or high-risk contexts (e.g. conflict zones).
• Facilitation and interviewing skills, with diverse range of stakeholders across geographies and functions, and to handle sensitive feedback (e.g. on leadership, team well-being).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to produce high-quality, concise reports,
• Independent, objective, and credible 

 Desirable 

• Knowledge of ActionAid’s work, organisational structure, and values.

As a charity that supports children and young people, we make safeguarding individuals our top priority. For this reason, all volunteers are subject to an enhanced criminal record and disclosures check. We also ask all volunteers to adhere to our Safeguarding, Equality and Confidentiality policies. We are looking for volunteers who can spend some time with our clients  in and around Central London, specifically Chelsea, Pimlico, Barnes, Tower Hamlets. and other areas.  Locations change often as new referrals come in, so if this is something that interests you, please get in touch and tell us where you are based as we may have other clients in your area. 

 Meetings are regular weekly or fortnightly, for at least 6 months although most of our volunteers stay involved for much longer than this, only because they enjoy what they do! 

Befriending is a simple way to make a positive difference to someone who spends a lot of time alone or is socially isolated.  Your gift of time and companionship will give them, and you, something to look forward to. As one of our volunteers once said,“this is an easy, very meaningful way to help someone and is immensely rewarding and fun!”  

Your meetings could be in the local community, having a chat in a coffee shop, visiting places of interest together, or in our client’s home.Our clients are older Scots, aged 60  plus who simply want to do the activities that most of us take for granted.

We provide training before you start, ongoing support once you are matched, out of pocket expenses, references, social events and newsletters. 

This could be the ideal opportunity  for you to gain practical experience of working with adults in a health and social care setting, or for anyonewho simply enjoys meeting new people and making their lives a little brighter.

Grow Cardiff is a grassroots charity creating life-changing community gardens across the city. As we expand our reach, we’re looking for a new Treasurer to guide our financial health and governance as a key member of our board of eight trustees. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and will provide a full induction.

The Role
As Treasurer, you’ll provide strategic oversight and financial stewardship to ensure our small but growing organisation stays resilient and impactful. You’ll work closely with our Director, Chair, and Admin & Finance Officer, supporting everything from budget setting to risk management and audit preparation. You’ll also play a key role in demystifying financial matters for our Board

Core Responsibilities

• Monitor and report on the charity’s financial health
• Oversee internal accounts, annual statements, and financial controls
• Help develop financial policies on reserves, budgeting, and risk.
• Advise on financial implications of strategic plans
• Liaise with external accountants and auditors
• Support board learning and decision-making with accessible financial insight
• Work collaboratively on systems like Xero

Who We’re Looking For

• We’re after a finance professional (active or recently retired) with:
• Commercial or SME finance experience (charity finance a bonus)
• Strategic thinking and risk management skills
• An ability to communicate financial info clearly to non-specialists
• A willingness to be hands-on and collaborative.

Your Commitment
​Estimated time: 4–6 hours/month including: 

• Board meetings: every 8 weeks (currently first Wed of the month, held in the Dusty Forge community centre, Ely)
• Monthly check-ins with the Director (remote possible)
• 1–2 half day away days per year with the board
