This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to get involved in an impactful charity making a tangible difference to the lives of refugees here in the UK.
Our work is simple – we refurbish unwanted bikes and donate them to refugees and people seeking asylum, many living on less than £7 a day, giving them freedom and independence whilst they rebuild their lives.
A bike makes a huge difference – not only is it a practical tool for tackling poverty, those who receive bikes from us report they are more connected in their community, happier and healthier as a result:
-
91% of people use their bikes weekly for essential journeys
-
84% of people are better able to access legal and other vital support services
-
93% report better physical and/or mental health
Alongside our core Bike Donations Programme, we support refugee women to learn to cycle through our Pedal Power Programme; provide ongoing support with bike maintenance through our Repair or Replace Programme; and offer the opportunity for connection and friendship through our volunteer-matching Bike Buddy Programme.
“The Bike Project has given me so much more than just a bicycle — it has given me confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. Receiving a bike as a gift allowed me to feel free in society, explore my community, and even join a cycling group where I’ve met wonderful people.
Thank you again for everything you do. Your work changes lives, including mine.”

About BABCP: The British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) is a charity and the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in the UK and Ireland. We are a membership body with around 27,000 members and as a professional organisation we promote, improve and uphold standards of CBT practice, supervision and training. Our CBT Register is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. We were founded over fifty years ago, and have experienced significant growth in recent years, moving from a highly regarded special interest group to a professional association. We recognise the importance of high-quality mental healthcare that is evidence-based, and we help to protect the public by supporting best practice. We value diversity, integrity and professionalism – you can read more about our strategy and values here. BABCP is a registered charity and a limited company in law. We have a staff team of around sixty people and annual income in excess of £3m.
What we are looking for?: We are looking for one new lay person to join our Board as ‘Lay Trustee Director’, meaning you will be both a trustee of the charity and a director of the company. Our Board is made up of ten Trustee Directors who are elected from within BABCP’s membership and up to three Lay Trustee Directors. We are looking for a Lay Trustee Director with a proven track record of excellence in their field, who can bring fresh perspectives and experience from other professional sectors and walks of life.
You should:
· Be able to take important decisions using sound, objective reasoning and with good attention to detail.
· Be willing to ask questions and constructively challenge the status quo.
· Be able to think creatively and strategically, while being committed to operating with integrity.
· Have the capacity to devote time and effort to the role.
· Understand the responsibilities of the position.
· Not be barred from acting as charity trustee or company director (further eligibility declarations and checks will be required if appointed).
We particularly welcome applicants with skills and expertise in IT and/or Human Resources.
We recognise that skills and experience come in many forms, and that some groups have traditionally faced barriers in accessing formal opportunities. BABCP welcomes applications from those who possess the relevant attributes and experience drawn from all aspects of their lives and those who may have had a less traditional career pathway.
While we are looking to bring fresh ‘lay’ perspectives to our Board, if you are one of the millions of people who have direct or indirect lived experience of CBT and related therapies, you may find this experience helps to bring the value of this role to life.
What will you be doing?: As a Trustee Director you will, as part of the wider Board, oversee the organisational structures, systems, policies and resources in place to achieve the charitable objects of the Association. You will help ensure that BABCP exclusively pursues its stated purpose against a defined strategy and in compliance with its governing document and relevant legislation and regulation. You will attend our Board meetings, reviewing all Board papers in advance. You may also be asked to participate in additional committees or working groups focused on specific themes areas, taking into account your areas of expertise and interest where possible.
The role is voluntary and unpaid, though travel and approved out-of-pocket expenses will be covered.
How you will you make a difference?: There are very few in the UK and Ireland who are not affected by the consequences of mental health difficulties. By volunteering your expertise and experience with BABCP, you will ultimately be helping to improve the mental wellbeing of those nations and to protect the public who are directly or indirectly impacted by mental health issues.
How to apply:

Pregnancy Sickness Support
Role type
Voluntary role (this is not paid employment)
Location
Remote, UK based, from home
Time commitment
Around 5 to 8 hours a week, flexible and arranged around you.
Expenses
Reasonable out of pocket expenses reimbursed
Volunteer from home and help more people through pregnancy sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum feel less alone
Pregnancy Sickness Support is a registered UK charity working to improve care, treatment and support for those affected by nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP) and the severe form of the condition, Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). For many people this is one of the hardest and loneliest parts of pregnancy. Our social media is often the first place someone finds out they are not alone.
We are looking for a creative Social Media Volunteer to help us tell that story well. You would help shape warm, accurate and engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X, and, if it interests you, help us explore and launch a presence on TikTok. Most of your creative work would be in Canva, using our templates and brand.
What the role involves
- Creating warm, accurate posts and simple graphics in Canva that share support, information and lived experience across our channels
- Helping plan and schedule content across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X
- Helping us explore and launch a presence on TikTok, if that is something you would enjoy
- Keeping an eye on comments and messages, replying kindly to straightforward ones and passing anything sensitive or distressing to the staff team
- Spotting awareness days, campaigns and moments that matter to our community and suggesting content for them
- Sharing simple updates on what is landing well, so we can learn what our audience values
About you
You do not need to be a marketing professional. We are looking for someone who cares about our cause, writes clearly and warmly, and can handle a sensitive subject with care. You would be comfortable on social media, happy to learn our tools and brand, and able to organise your own time so the volunteering fits around your life.
What we hope you can bring
- A genuine interest in our cause and a caring, sensitive approach to content about pregnancy, illness, loss and mental health
- Confidence using one or more social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn or X), whether in a personal or work setting
- The ability to write clearly and warmly for a general audience, with good attention to accuracy
- Reliability and the ability to organise your own time around the volunteering
- A willingness to follow our brand, safeguarding and confidentiality guidance, and to check content with the team before posting where needed
Helpful extras
- Making simple graphics or short videos, for example in Canva (templates and guidance are provided, so this is not essential)
- An interest in or experience of creating TikTok content
- Lived experience of hyperemesis gravidarum or pregnancy sickness, or a close understanding of it. This is valued, not required
- Any experience of content planning, scheduling tools or basic social media insights
- Any experience of volunteering with, or working for, a charity
What you would gain
- The chance to make a real difference to people going through one of the hardest parts of pregnancy
- Hands on experience across live social channels, including the opportunity to help launch a new TikTok presence
- An induction, a named contact for support, and Canva templates and brand guidance
- Reasonable out of pocket expenses reimbursed
- A reference after a reasonable period of volunteering with us
How to apply
This is a remote, voluntary role. We review applications as they arrive, so please do apply when you are ready.
Equal opportunities
Pregnancy Sickness Support welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds and communities. We particularly welcome people with lived experience of pregnancy sickness. We are committed to treating all volunteers fairly and with respect, and to making our roles as accessible as we can.

Make a real difference in your community
Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.
The Crisis Recovery House supports people experiencing a mental health crisis, as an alternative to hospital admission, where appropriate. It also helps individuals discharged from hospital who need a brief period of intensive support.
As a Gardening Volunteer, you’ll work alongside staff and residents to care for the garden at Amadeus House and to co‑create engaging gardening sessions. Together, you’ll help maintain an inclusive, therapeutic outdoor space by sharing gardening skills, supporting hands‑on tasks, and contributing ideas for seasonal or themed activities. Your involvement will help make the garden a shared, welcoming environment that supports residents’ wellbeing and recovery.
Tasks may include:
- Taking a lead role in the garden’s day‑to‑day care and upkeep, working collaboratively with staff and residents.
- Maintaining the garden so it remains safe, tidy, welcoming, and vibrant — including planting, watering, pruning, and general tidying.
- Organising and delivering gardening sessions with residents, teaching and learning basic gardening skills together in an inclusive way.
- Supporting residents with hands‑on tasks such as planting, weeding, composting, and harvesting.
- Planning and delivering seasonal gardening activities (e.g., spring planting, autumn tidy‑ups) in collaboration with residents and staff.
- Helping develop themed areas such as herb gardens, raised beds, or flower and vegetable plots, encouraging shared ownership and creativity.
- Accompanying residents on visits to garden centres or local green spaces as part of gardening projects.
- Bringing enthusiasm, encouragement, and imagination to help make the garden a therapeutic and enjoyable shared space.
- Fostering teamwork, creativity, and a sense of collective pride in the garden.
Skills/qualities we would like you to bring to the role:
- Hands-on gardening knowledge with an enthusiasm for helping others grow their skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, along with basic IT confidence.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to keep track of tasks and share updates with the team.
- A caring, patient and non‑judgmental approach when working with people with lived experience of mental health challenges.
- Reliability and good time‑keeping.
- The ability to work collaboratively with staff and residents, while also being comfortable taking initiative or following guidance.
- An understanding of Waythrough’s work and a genuine interest in contributing to our mission and values.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professional boundaries, and Waythrough policies, and to engaging in supervision and completing relevant training (including safeguarding, boundaries, cyber security, DEIB, and health & safety).
