Filling Good is a not-for-profit zero-waste refill shop in Maidenhead, run by a friendly team of volunteers. Every year we welcome local students doing the volunteering section of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), and we’re looking for a DofE Coordinator to look after them from first enquiry to final sign-off.
This is a mainly behind-the-scenes, organisational role of around 3 hours a week – a little more at the start of the school year, less mid-year. Most of it can be done flexibly from home, with occasional contact with the shop team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Responding to enquiries. Replying to students who get in touch, explaining our opening hours and what we expect, finding out their DofE level and how long they’d like to volunteer, and offering them available one-hour shifts or a place on the waiting list.
- Managing the DofE rota. Keeping the shift allocation and waiting list up to date on our shared rota spreadsheet.
- Onboarding new students. Sending a welcome letter with links to the short online training they need to complete, and arranging a brief introductory chat in the shop with one of our regular volunteers.
- Being the main point of contact. Handling any absences, such as holidays, school events or illness, by updating the rota and letting the shop team know.
- Completing assessments. When a student finishes, gathering feedback from the volunteers they’ve worked with, writing and submitting their assessor’s report on the DofE online portal, and thanking them for their time.
Once students are settled, they need very little day-to-day input, so the workload is lightest mid-placement and busiest at the start of the school year, when most new enquiries come in.
This is a great role for someone who enjoys supporting young people as they grow in confidence, and who wants to help a community-led project that’s reducing waste in Maidenhead.
As a not-for-profit Community Benefit Society, our mission is to reduce waste, promote ethical consumption & support local, eco-conscious producers.
