Job description

We are recruiting several new Trustees to help shape SCIE’s future and strengthen our impact.

At the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), we collaborate and innovate to improve lives. We work with people with lived experience, practitioners, policymakers, commissioners, researchers and communities to develop evidence-informed solutions that improve care, support and safeguarding.

About the roles

As a Trustee, you will provide strategic leadership and share responsibility for SCIE’s governance. Working with fellow Trustees and the Executive Leadership Team, you will help keep SCIE accountable, financially sustainable, values-led and focused on meaningful impact.

You will bring independent judgement, assess proposals objectively and offer constructive support and challenge. We welcome strategic thinking, emotional intelligence and a collaborative approach.

What you will bring

We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Human resources and organisational development
  • Research, evaluation and evidence
  • Social care policy, practice, commissioning or local government
  • Advocacy and influencing
  • Lived experience of drawing on care and support, or being a carer

We are seeking a mix of skills and experience across these appointments. You do not need expertise in every area.

Previous trustee experience is not essential. We particularly encourage applications from communities underrepresented in leadership and Board roles, and from people with lived experience of using or providing care and support.

Working hours and Location

Approximately one day per month on average, including preparation, Board and committee meetings, and occasional engagement between meetings. Board meetings are held online and in person, with two meetings each year taking place in London. Some national travel may be required.

Term of appointment

Three-year term, renewable once, subject to review.
