Job description

Do you care about human rights, the dignity of people seeking asylum in the UK, and survivors of torture or other forms of human rights abuses being recognised and having access to healthcare?

If you do and would like to volunteer your time to work together with a committed group of people who share your values, we would like to hear from you.

TortureID (TID) is a small, medical, human rights charity looking to recruit Trustees to strengthen its hard-working Board. We are looking to appoint several Trustees. We are seeking a Treasurer and also Trustees with experience and skills in one or more of: Human Resources, Communications, IT and Data Protection, Digital Media, Fundraising, Finance, Health and Asylum sectors. We welcome applications from everyone, and would particularly welcome candidates who have survived torture or other forms of human rights abuses and/or have lived experience of the UK asylum system.

TID works with refugees and people seeking asylum who have experienced torture and other forms of human rights abuses. TID’s mission is to improve early identification, documentation, and clinical responses for survivors, so that they can access healthcare and realise rehabilitation.

We currently put our mission into practice by:

oProviding Health Assessments to survivors in North West England.

oDelivering training nationally to support clinicians to recognise and respond to survivors of human rights abuses in clinical practice.

oDeveloping national tools and resources to support clinicians to identify, document and respond to human rights abuses in clinical practice.

oPromoting Routine Enquiry (a structured, trauma-informed approach to identifying survivors) as part of standard clinical care.

oMonitoring and evaluating the impact of our work.

Our long-term aim is to help build a healthcare system in the UK where survivors are recognised earlier, clinical information is used safely and effectively, and trauma-informed care becomes part of everyday practice.

·To find out more about being a TID Trustee, please see our ‘Information for TID Trustee Recruitment’.If after reading this, you would like to discuss the role, please get in touch and we’ll try and arrange a call with one of our existing Trustees.
