Can you help us by providing a calm, safe, and caring environment for our small furries whilst we find them their fur-ever home?
Often when we think about animal fostering, cats, and dogs spring to mind, but have you ever thought about fostering our smaller animals? The RSPCA received more than 5,000 reports last year about rabbits and other small furries relating to neglect or abandonment and rescued an average of 340 small furries a month! To help us with the rehoming of these small animals, we are actively looking to add to our fantastic team of volunteer fosterers.
As a small animal fosterer, you would play an essential role in providing the animals in our care with a temporary home whilst they are being rehomed. Like us, even small furries have specific needs and requirements, but rest assured, once we have guided you through the fostering process the animal centre will ensure that you have all the necessary guidance, equipment, food, and veterinary care.
What You’ll Be Doing:
-
Provide them with care, safe suitable housing, and space for playtime, as outlined in our policies and guidelines.
-
Ensure that they are groomed if appropriate and fed and watered.
-
Provide them with suitable and clean bedding to keep them cosy.
-
Give them lots of attention and plenty of cuddles as they are very sociable animals.
What We’re Looking For:
-
Volunteers aged 18 or over who have had plenty of experience of caring for animals.
-
Fostering experience is beneficial but not essential as training is provided.
-
For their wellbeing, our small furries may need to be fostered in pairs, so please bear this in mind.
-
Any existing pets or animals need to have been spayed/neutered (some medical reasons may mean they cannot be so, please let us know if this is the case).
-
You should be located in South Buckinghamshire or within a reasonable distance.
What’s in It for You?
-
You will be making a massive difference to the welfare of the small animals in your care.
-
Join a community which will enable you to meet new people and make new friends.
-
Learning new skills through our comprehensive induction and fostering training programme.
-
Enhance your CV by adding your volunteering experience and newly acquired skills.
-
The RSPCA is happy to reimburse you for any pre-agreed expenses that you may incur through volunteering for us.
Practical Considerations:
-
Health & Safety: You’ll need to complete a simple online Health & Safety course before starting the role.
Disclaimer:
Our voluntary roles are subject to:
-
An informal interview and trial period.
-
Submission of two referees’ contact details.
-
Completion of relevant training and assessments for the role.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

About Make A Smile
Make A Smile is a UK charity dedicated to bringing joy, play, and magical experiences to children facing illness, disability, or disadvantage. Volunteers dress as beloved characters and deliver uplifting activities, from hospital visits and care‑centre sessions to arts, crafts, stories, and games - ensuring every child gets the chance to enjoy their childhood. Our Trustees and Central Officers help the charity run smoothly across the UK, acting “in the best interests of Make a Smile” and supporting chapters to thrive.
About The Role
Regional Officers oversee a group of Make A Smile chapters within a specific UK region. You will support chapter committees, monitor activity, encourage collaboration, and provide hands‑on help when needed. This role is essential in ensuring chapters stay active, compliant, and connected to the wider charity.
Key Responsibilities
You will play a leadership and support‑focused role across 5–8 chapters in your region. Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing chapters within your assigned region (South West, South East, Midlands, North West, or North East)
- Providing guidance, advice, and signposting to Presidents and committee members.
- Monitoring chapter activity by checking committee chats, emails, volunteer communities, and social media.
- Flagging concerns to the Chair if a chapter becomes inactive or is not adhering to policy.
- Attending chapter meetings where possible and building strong relationships with committees.
- Being the first point of contact when committees have questions about central activities.
- Collaborating with Trustees and other Officers when specialist support is needed.
- Providing hands‑on support to struggling chapters, such as posting on social media, chairing meetings, emailing volunteers, or chasing sign‑ups.
- Encouraging collaboration between chapters—joint socials, fundraisers, training sessions, or large events.
- Using the Presidents’ regional chat to coordinate cross‑chapter activities and build a sense of wider community.
- Celebrating chapter successes and sharing good practice across the region.
- Reporting insights, concerns, and achievements at monthly Charity Leadership Meetings.
Skills and Qualities We’re Looking For
This role suits someone organised, supportive, and confident in guiding others. You’ll thrive if you bring:
- Strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
- Confidence in supporting and advising multiple committees.
- A proactive, solution‑focused mindset (“Approach problems with the attitude of solution identification.”).
- The ability to monitor activity and spot early signs of disengagement.
- Professionalism, dedication, and alignment with Make A Smile’s ethos (“Show dedication… Enjoy it!”).
- A calm, friendly presence that encourages volunteers to reach out for help.
Experience in leadership or volunteer management is helpful but not essential.
Time Commitment
Regional Officers are expected to contribute around 4 hours per week, including monitoring chapter activity, supporting committees, and attending monthly Charity Leadership Meetings.
Training and Support
You will receive:
- Full Trustee Training (online).
- A comprehensive handover and access to all systems (OneDrive, Simvoly, WhatsApp communities).
- Guidance from the Chair, Supporting Chapter Managers, and fellow Trustees.
- Access to the Chapter Levelling document and annual plans to help assess chapter needs.
- Opportunities for personal development through CPD and charity‑funded training.
What You’ll Gain
- Experience supporting multiple teams across a national charity.
- Skills in leadership, volunteer management, and organisational oversight.
- The chance to shape the success and sustainability of Make A Smile chapters.
- A meaningful role that directly strengthens the charity’s impact across the UK.

WE'RE SUNSHINE CHARITY!!!
SUNSHINE is a small but ambitious grassroots charity on a big mission: to reduce loneliness and help people feel truly seen, valued and connected. Powered 100% by passionate volunteers, we design joyful community projects, awareness campaigns, partnerships and support services that bring people together, spread joy and community spirit. nurture connection and help boost confidence and wellbeing.
Loneliness isn't just a lack of company; it’s a lack of joy and belonging. SUNSHINE is a startup charity on a mission to bring the spirit of community back to London’s streets. We need a creative, high-energy leader to design the activities, events, and programmes that will turn strangers into neighbours.
The Architect of Connection
As our Founding Programmes & Impact Lead, you are the creative heart of our charity. You will be responsible for dreaming up, building, and launching the initiatives that directly tackle social isolation. From small-scale coffee meetups to city-wide community projects, you will ensure our "Joy Strategy" is delivered with excellence.
Your Impact:
- Creative Curation: Design a diverse calendar of events, projects, and programmes specifically tailored to spark connection and spread community spirit.
- End-to-End Implementation: Take ideas from the drawing board to the streets of London—setting up the logistics, volunteer rotas, and venues needed for success.
- Impact Measurement: Define what "success" looks like. How many connections were made? How much joy was spread? You’ll help us prove our impact to the world.
- Scaling the Joy: Ensure our pilot programmes are robust enough to be replicated across different London boroughs.
Who You Are:
- A "Community Builder": You have experience in event management, social programming, or community work and understand the nuances of social isolation.
- An Organised Visionary: You can dream big, but you have the grit to handle the "nitty-gritty" of setting up a project from scratch.
- Passionate about London: You know the capital’s unique challenges and are driven to make its residents feel less alone.
- Proactive & United: You thrive in a "close-knit team" environment and can work autonomously to hit milestones.
The Logistics:
- Location: Remote/Home-based, with regular "on-the-ground" presence in London for events and pilot projects.
- Commitment: 6–10 hours per week (flexible, but requires availability for key event launches).
- Reporting: Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Project Manager.
What’s In It For You?
- Creative Freedom: This is a blank canvas. You have the autonomy to trial innovative ways to solve loneliness.
- Direct Impact: You will see the immediate result of your work in the smiles and friendships formed at your events.
- Leadership Legacy: Help build a charity that could become a staple of London life.
How to Apply:
If you have a heart for community and the skills to build it, we want to hear from you. Please apply via CharityJob with your CV and a short note on one "Joy-Spreading" idea you’d love to pilot in London.
