Job description

Purpose of the Role:

ESOL Teaching Support Volunteer To provide one-to-one support to students who need extra help in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Literacy classes at the Baytree Centre. Working under the guidance of the class teacher, you will reinforce lesson content, help students build confidence, and contribute to an inclusive and positive learning environment for adult learners from diverse backgrounds.

Main Responsibilities:

- Work alongside the teaching team to support ESOL and Literacy classes.

- Provide one-to-one assistance to students who require extra support, following the teacher’s delivery.

- Reinforce learning activities and encourage student participation.

- Acknowledge achievements and promote positive behaviour to motivate learners.

- Adhere to Baytree Centre policies and procedures.

Skills and Qualities Required:

- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with both students and educators.

- Empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity to support students with diverse needs.

- Good organisational skills to help ensure smooth running of classes.

- Ability to collaborate as part of a team while remaining flexible to classroom needs.

- Reliable, punctual, and committed to supporting learners’ progress.

- Interest in language learning, education, or community support.

Commitment:

- Assist in one ESOL and Literacy class (day and time subject to the timetable).

- Minimum commitment of 2 terms.

- Location: The Baytree Centre.
