Job description

CHARITY MANAGER (Grassroots Charity Leadership)

Volunteer Role – SUNSHINE Charity

Location: Hybrid — In‑person across Tower Hamlets & Inner London + remote coordination from anywhere in London

Commitment: 3–5 hours per week (flexible, self‑managed across the week)

Salary: Voluntary (with real leadership experience, charity management exposure, and the chance to shape a brand‑new movement)

The Spark: Why We Need You

SUNSHINE is a small but fiercely passionate grassroots charity on a mission to tackle loneliness across London — starting in Tower Hamlets, one of the most diverse yet most isolated boroughs in the UK.

We will run high‑vibrancy pop‑ups in parks, estates, markets, and high streets. Neon t‑shirts. Bubble machines. Positive quote cards. Warm conversation. We turn strangers into neighbours.

We are growing — fast.

To keep this joy revolution running smoothly, we need Managers who can help us organise, coordinate, support, and energise our volunteer teams and charity operations. You will be part of the charity’s core leadership group, helping to build SUNSHINE from the ground up.

This is not just volunteering — it’s co‑creating a movement.

Your Mission: What You’ll Lead

As a Manager, you will help run the day‑to‑day operations of SUNSHINE Charity. You will be part of the small leadership team that keeps everything moving, organised, and thriving.

1. Volunteer Leadership & Coordination

  • Support the recruitment, onboarding, and development of new volunteers.

  • Help manage volunteer rosters for pop‑ups and community activities.

  • Ensure volunteers feel welcomed, supported, and valued.

  • Maintain a positive, inclusive culture across our WhatsApp groups and team spaces.

2. In‑Person Support (Tower Hamlets & Inner London)

  • Attend occasional pop‑ups to support frontline volunteers.

  • Help deliver short, friendly inductions for new volunteers.

  • Represent SUNSHINE at local community events, fairs, and partner organisations.

3. Remote Charity Management

  • Assist with organising digital files, volunteer resources, and Google Drive folders.

  • Help maintain spreadsheets, forms, and simple admin systems.

  • Support communication across WhatsApp, email, and volunteer channels.

  • Contribute to planning sessions, team discussions, and charity development.

4. Community Building & Culture Shaping

  • Help design micro‑rituals that make SUNSHINE special (welcome messages, shout‑outs, mini challenges).

  • Encourage volunteers to grow into new roles and responsibilities.

  • Bring ideas, creativity, and energy to help shape the charity’s identity.

5. Optional Areas You Can Lead (Based on Your Strengths)

You can choose to specialise in areas such as:

  • Volunteer wellbeing

  • Event coordination

  • Outreach & partnerships

  • Social media & communications

  • Creative projects

  • Operations & logistics

  • Community engagement

We will shape your responsibilities around your strengths and interests.

Who You Are (The Perfect Fit)

You don’t need charity experience or a management qualification. You need heart, reliability, and a love for people.

You are:

  • Warm & Approachable: You enjoy supporting others and building community.

  • Organised: You like keeping things tidy — rosters, chats, spreadsheets, plans.

  • Reliable: You follow through, communicate clearly, and care about doing things well.

  • Community‑Driven: You believe loneliness is a solvable problem and want to help fix it.

  • Positive & Energetic: You bring a spark that lifts the team.

Why Join as a Volunteer Manager?

  • Real Leadership Experience: You’ll gain hands‑on charity management skills that look incredible on a CV.

  • Shape a New Charity: You will help build SUNSHINE from the ground up — your ideas will genuinely matter.

  • Flexible & Human: Manage your hours your way; fit this role around your life.

  • Impactful: Your leadership will directly help reduce loneliness in London.

  • Joyful: You’ll be part of a movement built on positivity, kindness, and human connection.
