About the role.
To ensure that our governance remains robust and that, as a group of non-executives, we are able to continue offering support, advice and scrutiny to our senior leaders, we are now seeking to appoint new members to one of our committees and one of our Divisional Boards.
Firstly, we seek to appoint a co-opted member to join the UCEN Manchester Board. This Divisional Board provides oversight of the operation of the higher education provision offered by UCEN Manchester on behalf of the LTE Group.
We also seek to add a new co-opted member to our Audit & Risk Committee, whose remit is organisation-wide and whose support and challenge are vital if we are to ensure that, as an organisation, we remain compliant and can manage and mitigate the risks that affect us.
Both the UCEN Manchester Divisional Board and the Audit & Risk Committee meet three times per year, and members of these committees are required to attend in person.
Who we are looking for.
Co-opted Members are expected to support the work of the LTE Group Board of Governors through their membership of a divisional board or a group committee. You will be expected to contribute your expertise, skills and knowledge to support the operation of the UCEN Manchester Divisional Board or the Audit & Risk Committee and ensure the work is done efficiently and effectively.
As such, we are seeking candidates who are experts in their chosen fields and can demonstrate a strong interest in all aspects of the LTE Group’s broad provision, including further and higher education. Commitments to lifelong learning, high-quality education and training, and equality and diversity are all essential.
For the UCEN Manchester Divisional Board we are seeking candidates with senior leadership experience in the English higher education system, who have knowledge of OfS and TEF frameworks.
For the Audit & Risk Committee, we are seeking candidates with professional expertise and experience in cyber security.
Candidates for both roles must be able to work positively with others and contribute as a team member, have the ability to make reasoned decisions and be willing to contribute to establishing and monitoring performance at a strategic level.

Are you passionate about supporting young people to access education? Learning English is a priority for the young people that we work with, but it can be difficult to find out where and when classes are happening. With limited English, the application process can also be very difficult to navigate. We are looking for a committed volunteer to work alongside the Education Lead to support young people to access English/ ESOL classes in and around Brighton. This will involve working directly with young people to help them to fill in application forms as well as keeping up to date about the classes that are happening and communicating with local colleges and training providers.

We are looking for Client Support Volunteers to assist in the Garden alongside our horticulturists in the supervision of our adult clients and teenagers with a variety of disabilities.
Our volunteers work in the garden with clients, helping them with various tasks such as planting, harvesting, pruning and mowing to name a few, under the guidance of our team of horticulturists.

e are excited to recruit for the new KGHP Fellowship to support health systems strengthening across Sierra Leone. KGHP will be leading a Clinical Mentorship programme across six districts in Sierra Leone to support Nurses and Midwives with vital lifesaving skills. Over a 12-month period (June 2024-June 2025), each Fellow will support the development of a hospital education team, underpinned by a continued professional development framework. In partnership with the hospital management team, the Fellow will co-create and deliver a Leadership in Education programme. The Fellow will also support clinical mentoring on the wards and a mentorship cascade system, working with smaller, rural community health centres.

Volunteer Role Description - Woodland Support Volunteers
Westonbirt’s historic Victorian landscape and internationally important tree and shrub collection is managed by Forestry England and attracts thousands of visitors each year – the Woodland Support volunteer team will be a key element of our Visitor Services (VS) team in helping everyone to get the very best from their time with us. This busy, varied and active role supports visitors whilst they are out and about in the arboretum and will help them to enjoy a memorable day out.
When/Where
This role will be a highly proactive roving role to provide support and information to visitors, primarily in Silkwood, but with possible extension to the Old Arboretum in the future. This role will be carried out in pairs at all times. Shifts will be split and there will be the ability to take breaks during the shift:
- 10.00 am -1.00 pm - morning shift
- 1.00 pm - 4.00 pm – afternoon shift
What’s involved?
· Walking all main routes and known busy areas in Silkwood, to be a visible assistance to visitors with daily site, trail information etc…
· Proactively engaging visitors with a warm hello and welcome to enhance their visitor experience.
· Proactively advising seasonal tree, flora and fauna highlights, directions, and answering general queries.
· Communicating confidently with VS Team via on site radio, and face-to-face with colleagues and visitors.
· Support the VS team as appropriate, by observing visitors wellbeing and behaviour and adherence to site rules, in particular with regard to dog policy.
· Reporting any incidents, including but not limited to: dog incidents/issues; first aid; lost persons; infrastructure/woodland damage.
· Staying calm and focused if dealing with visitors who require support, whilst waiting for support from VS.
· Ensure visitor feedback, both positive and negative, is recorded and escalated appropriately.
· Covering large areas of Silk Wood on foot (or mobility scooter) in all weathers
· Litter picking.

Service: Perinatal Support for Partners Service
This is a service that offers fathers and non-birthing parents, who’s partner is being supported by the West London perinatal mental health service, an evidence-based 1:1 assessment to support their mental health and wellbeing. The service signpost partners to relevant services (including a PSFP peer support group).
Role Description:
To support our PSFP Service with a variety of tasks such as conducting a 1:1 assessment, (which includes onboarding to the service), co-facilitating monthly peer support groups, signposting and helping partners to access other organisations, taking care of our inbox emails and other administrative duties.

The type of person we are looking for is:

Essential:
- An interest in supporting those with mental health needs to access PSFP
- An appreciation of the complex factors that can precipitate, maintain, and exacerbate mental health problems
- Good oral and written communication skills (including listening skills); the ability to communicate in a patient, considered, and empathetic manner
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to follow administrative procedures
- A team player who is willing to chip in and work reflexively, responding to the challenges that arise from working in a dynamic environment
- IT skills – able to update spreadsheets, use web-based applications, video-conferencing software, and Microsoft Office applications.
Desirable:
- Customer Service experience, including with friends and family
- Experience of supporting people with mental health needs, in a voluntary, paid, or personal capacity, (i.e., friends and family)
- Previous involvement with local community groups/networks
- Awareness of the cultural barriers that may exist to seeking mental health support
Time commitment and expenses:
- 6 hours per week, during our core hours of 10am - 4pm.
- Please indicate your preferred volunteering day(s)/time(s) on your application
- We request a minimum commitment of 3 months of volunteering after the completion of your induction
- We will provide volunteers with an induction, training, and ongoing mentoring to support them in the role
- Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed

Role Description
We are looking to appoint an Honorary Treasurer who will bring new energy, new ideas, new perspectives, and challenge to enhance our financial management and development as a charity.
The Treasurer will be a Trustee and Director (SPAEDA is a charity and a company limited by guarantee) with particular responsibility to the Board for:
- Fulfilling the same role as any Trustee and Director
- Working closely with the Chair on issues relating to regulation and good governance
- Monitoring the financial administration of the charity and advising fellow trustees on all matters financial
- Overseeing the charity's financial risk-management
- Acting as a counter signatory to SPAEDA's bank accounts and as necessary on applications to funders
- Liaising with our accountants, particularly in supporting the production of the annual accounts

Role Overview
We are a small charity and handle a moderate number of transactions each month using an online accounts package (Xero). We have an online bookings system handled through our website and online payments system (STRIPE). Book-keeping is managed in house by the Business Manager. Monthly payments approval would be required, supporting the preparation of quarterly management accounts. More input in March and April for preparation of the year end accounts and additional support in January - February would be welcomed to develop budgets, templates and invoice codes for the coming year.
Routinely, we look to our Treasurer for:
Monthly - Approval of online payments, review of management accounts and reserves, monitoring cash flow
Quarterly - Preparation of board reports (quarterly management accounts), review of reserves, preparation of latest estimate
Annually - Preparation of annual budget and draft accounts for independent review
On a Project Basis - Supporting our Director and Business Manager with financial aspects of bids and applications – project budgets, customised spreadsheets and assisting with reporting templates and coding of invoices (as new projects start)
Our financial year runs from 1st April – 31st March with the reporting deadline of 31st December.
