Your role
The Chair of The Merchant's House Trust leads the Board of Trustees, ensuring the effective governance of the charity and supporting the Trust Manager in delivering its strategy and purpose. The role is voluntary and non-remunerated, ideal for someone passionate about local heritage and community engagement. Treasurer’s Duties
- Provide strategic financial advice, support and challenge to the board, Chief Executive and Head of Finance
- Maintain an overview of the organisation's financial affairs focusing on maintaining the organisation’s financial viability

- Represent and advise on all financial matters including the annual report and accounts
- Work closely with the Chair, CEO and Head of Finance to ensure the smooth financial running and continued financial health of the charity
- Help to deliver the strategy, focusing on increasing impact and sustainability through strengthening income streams and having a secure financial position
Time Commitment
The successful candidate will be required to attend:
- three two-hour teleconference Finance Sub Committee meetings and one face-to-face meeting per year (historically held in London);
- three two-hour teleconference Board meetings per year and one face-to-face meeting (historically held in London);
- Annual Conference in person, annually in November.
What are we looking for?
- Formal financial qualifications and experience are desirable, and it would be useful to have experience of charity finance.
- As an organisation, we work remotely, using IT solutions such as Teams, Zoom and SharePoint therefore location is not relevant, although you should be comfortable with the use of these technologies.
- The Treasurer must be able to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences and report on these to the board.
- The Treasurer must be willing to be available occasionally for advice and enquiries as appropriate.

About the Role

Our Branch is seeking a new Treasurer for our Committee. We would love to hear from a finance professional with a passion for animal welfare!
About us:
RSPCA Lincolnshire Mid, NE & Lincoln Branch rehabilitates and re-homes animals rescued by the RSPCA's national Inspectors. We also promote responsible pet ownership and hold animal action days such as for microchipping.
We currently run three charity shops and regular fundraising events, to rehabilitate more than 100 animals each year, and help them find their forever home.

What is involved?
As a Trustee of an RSPCA Branch you will have the chance to influence how we care for and prevent cruelty to animals.
Our Treasurer acts as principal financial trustee maintaining and administering the accounts of the branch.
What you can bring to our board:
You will have a professional finance qualification or be working towards one, such as CIMA or ACCA. You will ideally have charity finance experience, such as an understanding of gift aid, charity commission reporting requirements and restricted funds.
You will have experience of using finance software, with Xero experience being particularly desirable as it is our current software. You will also be familiar with how HMRC rules work, i.e., PAYE, Employer’s National Insurance and charity rules in respect of VAT.
Our Treasurer is a key role, with responsibilities to:

implement and maintain sound financial systems in order to retain full control of branch funds.

take a lead role in ensuring the committee set annual financial budgets and forward plan the branch income and expenditure so that the accounts balance in the long term.

provide a written financial report for every branch meeting showing the branch’s income and expenditure since the last meeting.

liaise with auditors/independent examiner regarding the production of the annual branch accounts and treasurer’s report for the AGM, including SORP statement.

maintain control of all bank accounts as authorised by the committee.

execute and operate branch committee financial decisions and act as branch co-signatory on all branch cheques, if required.

make quarterly VAT returns via the Branch’s Xero accounting system.
Working with our Branch Manager, the Treasurer will also:

maintain control over all branch debit/credit cards, paying-in books and receipt books and to ensure their correct use.

ensure correct responsibility for the branch network of collection boxes.

arrange payment of the annual branch contribution to the appropriate RSPCA fund.

coordinate financial control of all branch fundraising activities.

ensure the retention and safekeeping of all branch financial documentation for the appropriate time as set by the charity commission.
Additionally, in conjunction with your fellow trustees, our Treasurer will:

conduct regular reviews of the branch accounts and investment portfolio to ensure the best return on branch funds.

ensure the production, monitoring and annual review of the branch’s financial risk management strategy in accordance with the charity commission’s requirements.

liaise with Branch officers and Branch Partnership Manager on financial affairs as necessary and alert them immediately to any possible difficulties or irregularities.
Things to know about the role
You will ideally live and/or work in our branch area in Lincolnshire, UK, to bring local insight to our branch decisions. Our branch covers the city of Lincoln, out to Mablethorpe, Woodhall Spa and Gainsborough, and all the way up to Grimsby.
We meet monthly as a board, with most of these online but we like to also meet at least 3 times each year in-person, including our AGM, as well as support local fundraising events.

What will you be doing?
Reshaping our Board
Balance has trustees with substantial experience across a range of disciplines from housing law to management consultancy and information technology. This experience and knowledge have been critical in supporting the charity's executive leadership restructure operations and qaulity assurance standandards.
As a result they have steered the charitys growth and development increasing turnover from £2.3 Million in 2022 to £4.2 Million in 2024. With additional new work likely in 2025, the board see's strengthening it's knowledge and specialisms as critical in leading this new phase of our development.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for new trustees who have a commitment to driving high quality and empowering social care services. You will recognise the importance of your role in being both a critical friend to the executive leadership as well as an expert in your given field.
Following some recent resignations the board is looking for trustees who can bring backgrounds:
- finance - insight, support and guidance to help develop a sustainable and financially resilient charity
- marketing - knowledge of and ability to support the charity's approach to marketing its services to new customers, commissioners and other business partners

Where you live
We are a charity based in Kingston with operations across a number of boroughs in SW and Central London. - A collaborative and team-oriented approach to problem solving and to management.
- The Board meets at least 6 times a year and each trustee is expected to attend all board meetings (even if remotely) to contribute to discussions and decisions and occasional attendance at other community events, service visits and away days.

Martin Lewis' charity the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute are looking to appoint two or three trustees who bring the skills, insight and critical challenge to guide us through the next stage of our journey. About Disability Peterborough
Disability Peterborough, legally registered as DIAL Peterborough, is a user-led charity dedicated to supporting physically disabled individuals and their families in Peterborough and the surrounding areas.
What will you be doing?
As a Board member of Disability Peterborough, you will serve as both a Director of the Company and a Trustee of the Charity. As Treasurer, you’ll play a key role in helping us manage our finances responsibly and sustainably, ensuring we can keep delivering vital services to physically disabled people in Peterborough. Your expertise will help us make informed decisions, plan confidently for the future, and safeguard the resources that make our work possible.
We have a contract with a local accountancy firm who use Xero software to prepare monthly management reports and the annual return. The accountancy firm also manage the wage runs each month. The Treasurer’s input is therefore primarily at a governance and advisory level rather than day-to-day financial administration.
The estimated time commitment is approximately 4 hours per month. This includes attending Board meetings, reviewing documents, and carrying out occasional follow-up tasks.

Job title: Finance and Vice Chair Trustee - London & Brighton
Reporting to: Board of Trustees and Managing Director
Remuneration: £0 (Pro-Bono, Volunteering role)
Duration: 3 years, with a potential further 3 terms extension as per the board of Trustees Decision.
Location: Remote mainly, London coworking Office Space in Brixton, Brighton coworking space in future expanding reach.
Commitment and Work Style: 3 years, approx 8 hrs per Quarter, 5 meetings per year. Both F2F and online meetings.

We are looking for the next Finance and Vice Chair Trustee to join our board and help lead the strategy, developing the core team to continue growing our support for young refugees across the UK.
About Breadwinners
Breadwinners is set up to tackle unemployment and poor well-being by providing young refugees and people seeking asylum with their first work experience in the UK, training and personal mentors so that they can start and progress in their careers. We achieve this goal through three consecutive programmes, using our award-winning bread stalls in markets across London and Brighton and wholesale for socially-minded cafes and restaurants

Risers programme: A two-month early intervention programme designed to provide structured work experience, training, and mentorship to newly arrived young people seeking asylum through our 18 stalls.

Breadwinners programme: The follow-up programme for refugees with the right to work, which involves working as a market stall manager for six months and earning the UK living wage.

Proofers programme: A progression programme that entails working remotely as part-time online sales representatives for six months, managing our wholesale delivery model.
Our programmes, delivered across London and Brighton, and over the last 7 years we have made a significant impact in supporting over 744+ programme participants, with an impressive 93% reporting notable improvements in their overall well-being, 76% of our Breadwinners programme progress into work, further education or volunteering, and all this while minimising our Carbon Footprint by 20.5% through the sale of organic goods. This year, we are planning to double our impact with young refugees, with recently secured funding, new markets, and focusing on our wholesale model.
You will be working directly with the Managing Director, Core team and Board of Trustees and volunteers to improve Finance Processes, set up and review Budgets, and lead board meetings structure and discussions, delivering the best strategy for the Breadwinners community. You will have the chance to see the impact your work has, meet and support amazing young people who deserve better opportunities, and work together on the strategy of Breadwinners. Your role
Alongside the general responsibilities of a Trustee, you will:

Liaise with the Managing Director to obtain an overview of the ongoing financial affairs of the organisation to ensure its financial viability and that all processes are legal, constitutional and within accepted accounting practice.

Support the Managing Director in the production of an annual budget and propose its adoption at the last meeting of the previous financial year.

Support the Director to ensure proper records are kept and that effective financial procedures are in place.

Support the Director to monitor and report on the financial health of the organisation at board meetings, making fellow committee members aware of their financial obligations and taking a lead in interpreting financial data to them

Oversee the production of necessary financial reports/returns, accounts and audits together with auditors.

Support and Guidance: The vice chair provides support and guidance to the chair, helping them to effectively manage the board and the charity's operations. They may also act as a "sounding board" for the chair and other trustees, offering alternative perspectives and insights.

Subcommittee Leadership: The vice chair may lead or be involved in subcommittees of the board, such as a finance committee or a fundraising committee.

Strategic Direction: The vice chair helps ensure that the charity operates within its charitable objectives and has a clear strategic direction.

Effective Governance: They contribute to the overall governance of the charity by ensuring that meetings are effective and that trustees fulfill their duties.
Requirements

Available to dedicate at least 8 hrs per quarter to Breadwinner's work.

Available to attend Trustee board meetings on weekday afternoons 5 times a year.

Available to support Quarterly Team Wellbeing sessions.
