Humanist Climate Action is a volunteer-led network of Humanists UK members and supporters committed to redefining lifestyles and campaigning for policies that promote low-carbon, ethical, and sustainable living in the light of the degeneration of the Earth’s climate and biodiversity. We aim to bring humanists together to facilitate individual and collective action on these issues.

The Steering Committee is responsible for planning and executing HCA’s work, in line with its aims and policy. The Committee is appointed by Humanists UK’s Director of Human Rights & Advocacy. Its members report to the Chair, and as a whole it is supported and overseen by Humanists UK’s Human Rights & Advocacy Administrator.

We are seeking a dedicated and driven Social Media Lead to join our Committee, to assist in delivering the activities of Humanist Climate Action.

The role will primarily support the committee’s social media output across all its channels, including custom feed posts, uploading images and videos, monitoring threads, posting group updates and news stories, as well as highlighting calls to action.

Bangor Humanists bring non-religious people together to be happier and more fulfilled and to be a force for good in our community.

We are a Local Group of Humanists UK. All Humanists UK members and supporters in the local area are automatically part of the group. Bangor Humanists aim to provide a range of activities for non-religious people living in and around Bangor to meet, socialise, campaign, raise awareness of humanism, participate in local civic life and support each other. The Local Group represents Humanists UK and the local humanist community at public events and in public forums. Bangor Humanists is led by a team of volunteers that organises events and activities throughout the year.

Branch Coordinator 
Across the UK, our 65 local branches help disabled people live more independently. Our network of skilled volunteers respond to thousands of requests each year to design and make customised equipment free of charge.

As our local Branch Coordinator, you’ll take the lead in making sure your local branch works as effectively as possible. You’ll recruit, induct, and support other branch volunteers to make sure your branch’s activities meet the needs of your local disabled community.

You’ll bring your leadership, management, communication, organisation, and motivation skills to this role.
Most importantly, you’ll help disabled people to live more independent lives.

What the role involves
This role may vary depending on local needs but is likely to include:
• Coordinating the activities of our local branch to undertake and meet the needs of referrals in your area
• Coordinating and chairing the branch meetings
• Leading the branch’s shared responsibility for planning and completing referrals
• Coordinating the recruitment, induction, and ongoing support of new local branch volunteers
• Approving income and expenditure with the other branch bank account signatories and ensuring with the Treasurer that our financial requirements and policies relating to branches are followed
• Ensuring the branch’s activities comply with policies to keep people safe
• Regularly communicate and act as a key contact between staff and volunteers

What you need for this role

Our hub opening times (Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm). We’d love your help for as little as 1 hour a week, but if you can give more time that would help us even more
   

Who we are looking for

We welcome anyone who is passionate about disability equality and willing to support our work! You must be over 18 years old. You will need to feel comfortable working in a large busy warehouse environment and be able to lift and carry items, although we have a forklift truck to assist with heavier items.

Some volunteers want to learn more about charities or about retail. Others want to make a difference to the lives of disabled people. Other volunteers are interested in our training and development opportunities. Some people join us to meet new people and make friends. Sometimes people want to help a charity shop they like shopping in, while also getting a discount online!

Perinatal Support Volunteers provide one-to-one support to parents during pregnancy and up to nine months after the birth. These parents either have mental health issues or are at risk of developing them.

Perinatal Support Volunteers visit these families once a week (usually weekdays during working hours) for 2-3 hours, providing emotional support and practical help in the family’s home or local community. Support is aimed at empowering parents and building resilience beyond the support period.

The type of support Perinatal Support Volunteers provide to parents may include:

• An empathetic and non-judgemental listening ear
• Support to prepare for parenthood
• Support to build confidence in parenting skills
• Support to develop a positive relationship with their infant
• Support to establish daily and weekly routines

• Support to manage the things that are causing stress

No special qualifications are necessary to become a Perinatal Support Volunteer, but Home-Start volunteers are usually either parents or grandparents themselves, or people with experience of young children and family life. We particularly welcome volunteers with lived experience of perinatal mental health challenges.

Our Home-Visiting Service supports families who are experiencing difficulties or suffering stress and who have at least one child under the age of five years.

REMAP Brighton & Sussex

Are you passionate about using your practical maker/ engineer skills to solve real problems? Do you want to help disabled people live more independently? Join REMAP's volunteer community, the UK’s leading charity to create custom-built equipment for disabled individuals.

About REMAP

Since 1964, REMAP has helped thousands of people each year overcome everyday challenges through innovative, bespoke solutions. When commercial products don’t meet a person’s needs, REMAP volunteers design and make one-off equipment tailored specifically for them. With over 65 volunteer-run branches across the UK, our work is powered by skilled, compassionate volunteers like you.

The Role

As a volunteer Maker/ Engineer with practical skills, you will design and build custom equipment /adaptations using materials such as wood, metal, plastic, or electronics. Previous solutions/adaptations designed by REMAP volunteers have included: adapted handles, specialist supports, modified furniture, access aids and other one-off items designed around a person’s individual needs. You can find more inspiring solutions on REMAP's website on the Solutions section. 

In this role, you will volunteer directly with clients to understand their needs and create anything from simple adaptations to fully bespoke devices. You will also take part in regular branch meetings, case discussions approximately every 6 weeks, and occasional home visits. Each project matches your skills, availability, and location.

Location: 

You should be able and willing to travel within and around at least one of these areas:Littlehampton, Worthing, Brighton, Eastbourne, Bexhill, Hastings, Horsham, and surrounding areas.

Time Commitment:

Adults' social group

This friendship group for adults and older teenagers generally meets fortnightly (alternating with the Children's and Teenagers' groups) during term time on Tuesdays from 7.00 to 9.00pm Children's and Teenagers' social groups

The Southampton volunteer Group Leader will be responsible for the co-ordination of the NAS South Hampshire branch’s adult and older teens social group and the children and teens social group.

What you will be doing

• Planning sessions, including activities and other ideas, and co-ordinating the other volunteers attending both groups,
• Welcoming the autistic children, young people and adults to each of the sessions
• Interacting with those attending, making sure that everyone can engage in the activities in a safe manner.
• Organising the setting up and clearing away before and after the club activity
• Keeping the branch chair informed of both group’s activities in the upcoming sessions and attending branch committee meetings
• Ensuring your branch complies with NAS policies including risk assessment, data protection and safeguarding.
