Respond is a national charity supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people who have experienced abuse, violence or trauma. Respond offers psychotherapy and advocacy support and provides specialist trauma informed training for services.

Through specialist advocacy and therapeutic support, we support people to navigate complex systems such as criminal justice, social services and housing, and to cope with the impact of trauma, build healthy relationships and move forward with their lives.

We are a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities or long-term health conditions to live independently. We work across England, primarily under contract to local authority and NHS partners. We were established in 1988 and have a staff team of over 200 people, based across England. About NEUROMANCERS

NEUROMANCERS is a peer-led organisation providing autonomous, abolitionist, and accessible mental health care for and by the neurodivergent+ community. 

NEUROMANCERS was founded in 2021 by then-fifteen-year-old Aiyana Goodfellow in response to the lack of politicised community spaces for neurodivergent individuals. After years of incredible work, we are re-launching in 2025 in our new and improved form.

What does ‘NEUROMANCE’ mean?

To NEUROMANCE means to 'fall in love with divergence'.

The mainstream healthcare system fails our community by labelling neurodivergent+ people 'defective' and 'disordered'. 

NEUROMANCERS seek to provide an alternative. Instead, we fall in love with divergence. Our traits are neither 'curses' nor 'superpowers'. We are simply people surviving a society that oppresses and excludes us in the best ways we know how. 

NEUROMANCERS is here to support you, at whatever stage of the journey you are on - by providing autonomous, abolitionist, and accessible mental health care, by us and for us. 

What is ‘neurodivergent’?

Neurodivergent means 'to diverge from the expectations of neuronormativity'. We use the term neurodivergent+ to include those under and adjacent to the neurodivergent umbrella.

NEUROMANCERS work centres neurodivergent individuals, with particular emphasis on those who are also Black and/or LGBTQ+. 

We know that many people who are severely impacted by neuronormativity and ableism may not specifically identify as neurodivergent. Therefore, our term neurodivergent+ acknowledges these extended and adjacent groups.

About the Role

The Administrative & Operational Coordinator Volunteer will provide essential support to ensure smooth day-to-day operations of NEUROMANCERS. This role involves handling administrative tasks, financial coordination, and operational design to improve efficiency across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administrative Support:

  • Manage straightforward administrative tasks (e.g., contacting people, making phone calls, sending emails, making queries on behalf of the organisation and the Founder).

  • Assist with proofreading and editing documents.

  • Handle contracting for guest workshops (inputting key details into pre-written contracts and ensuring they are signed).

• Financial Coordination:

  • Support basic financial management (e.g., tracking expenses).

• Operational Design:

  • Develop and implement systems to streamline repetitive tasks and improve organisational efficiency.

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within volunteer teams and individual workflows.

  • Designing and outlining visual representations of workflows and systems for accessibility. 

Ideal Candidate:

• Strong organisational and administrative skills.

• Detail-oriented with excellent proofreading and editing abilities.

• Proactive problem-solver who can design efficient systems.

• Comfortable with basic financial tasks and contract management.

National Star is a Disability Confident Employer. Treasurer for the Anthony Toby Homes Trust
 

Do you have financial skills and enthusiasm to help an organisation that provides “a home for living life” for adults with learning disabilities?

You could be the next Treasurer for Anthony Toby Homes, an incorporated charitable company that runs two residential homes in Wokingham, Berkshire.

Set up in 1974 to ensure that individuals with learning disabilities should have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else, the charity opened its first home in 1998 and now runs two homes, for sixteen people with learning disabilities.

With an Unrestricted Income of £1.1m in 2024, and a substantial Balance Sheet of £4m, the charity is poised to continue its mission; both homes achieved a Good CQC Rating.  

What we need from a new Treasurer 

Our Board includes people with experience and skills in supporting people with learning disabilities, and we’d expect our new Treasurer to have empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries. 

While your prior experience of managing finances, bookkeeping or similar is highly important, understanding of current financial practice for charities or SMEs would be useful; a grasp of the Charities SORP & FRS 102 would be welcome, but is not essential. Ability to communicate financial information clearly, especially to other trustees, is important. Support from our employees is always available, as they deal with the day-to-day finances.

Full induction to our organisation will be provided, plus support as a new trustee, including access to external training.

We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We want to expand the diversity of our board, in all meanings of the word, and strongly welcome applications from people from less-represented groups. 

The focus of a trustee role is strategic, and trustees will not be expected to get involved in operations on a day-to-day basis; however, regular liaison with other trustees and employees is expected.   

We ask for up to ten hours per month, which includes all meetings, discussions, etc.  You will need access to digital communications, as much of our charity’s business is run that way.
