Midland Mencap seeks a passionate volunteer with good digital and IT skills to help our citizens and family carers access information and connect with their local communities by helping them understand the basics of social and digital platforms and applications.
If you are wizz on social media, a genius with Microsoft office and have a great understanding of digital platforms, you could help to make the world a bit easier to navigate.
Help us showcase the positive impact of the digital world to people who may not currently be accessing it and expand their horizons. Provide tips on safe and secure access so that everyone feels confident to use the internet.
What would I be doing?
Provide a “drop in” opportunity at our busy community hub in Weoley Castle. Meet and help citizens and their carers to understand and access the digital world via a laptop, smartphone, or MAC book. This will include helping people get online safely, send emails, and use Microsoft applications such as Word and PowerPoint
Support our weekly Digital Creative Workshop. Join in with our staff team as we support citizens to unleash creative talents and learn how to make amazing online content for the digital world.
Collaborate with the marketing team: Share content for use in promotional materials, social media, and the website.
What do I need?
For this volunteer role you need:
· A good understanding of digital platforms, internet use and Microsoft applications
· A friendly, calm, and patient attitude
· Be accepting of people who may be different to you
· Be happy to chat and a good listener
· Be willing to learn and act within guidelines set out by Midland Mencap
· An enhanced DBS check and references will be required

Across the UK, our 270 local groups play a vital part in supporting people affected by MS. They provide sense of belonging, unity and friendship. And they deliver services and support for their local MS community.
We are looking to recruit an Activities Volunteer for the Bristol and South West Gloucestershire Group. As our local group Activities Volunteer you’ll help us to set up activities in the area. Whether you’re serving refreshments, talking to people, registering attendees or collecting payments, you’ll be making sure everyone feel welcome.
In this role you’ll be able to develop your organisation, communication and team working skills. Most importantly you’ll be supporting your local group to run activities that bring friendship and fun to your local MS Community.
About you
You’ll have an interest in the MS Society and the work that we do, as well as the enthusiasm to represent both us and our values locally. You will understand the needs of people affected by MS in your area and be sympathetic to the needs and motivations of volunteers. You’ll be able to apply disability, equality and inclusion practices and understand and apply our risk management system. Ideally you’ll understand the local area and organisations that provide local services.
You will be reliable and easy to contact and you need to live in or near the area the group to carry out this role.
Time Commitment
We estimate this role will need up to two hours a week. Our roles are flexible and aim to fit around you. Time commitments for this role may vary depending on your activities. This is an ongoing role.

Upmo are an Edinburgh-based charity that provides support and opportunity for adults with learning disabilities and autism across Edinburgh, East Lothian and Midlothian. Upmo was founded in 2006 by Josh Barton and inspired by the belief that services for adults could truly be exciting, dynamic and meaningful.
In 2006, adults with learning disabilities lacked opportunities in higher education and there was a lack of understanding around individual needs. Those who understood the needs of service users operated with limited scope to encourage, inspire and motivate. As a result, many service users were isolated and desperately in need of opportunities to become more socially engaged, active and valued.
The response from Upmo was combining progressive learning within an educational curriculum and the development of support service provision – placing the needs of students at the heart of services. Distinguishing themselves by adopting an unconventional approach, Upmo provides custom-tailored support services alongside a well-regarded curriculum featuring creative workshops, educational activities, and vocational programs. The charity has also expanded its impact through a growing number of social enterprises aimed at creating job opportunities and preparing students for employment.
Upmo are looking for a number of committed and motivated individuals, from any background, to join their Board of Trustees and to help steer Upmo through a time of exciting opportunity and development.
As members of the Board, Trustees have the overall responsibility of running the charity. The current Trustees come from a diverse range of backgrounds, and through their wide-ranging and complimentary skills and life experience, contribute to the strategy and oversight of the charity’s operations. Being a trustee is a rewarding experience, which can also offer opportunities for personal development and growth outside of the workplace.
To be considered for this role, you should have strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills, coupled with a proactive attitude towards learning and a collaborative spirit. Additionally, strong analytical and problem-solving skills are key. The Board of Trustees meet four times per year, with every second meeting being held in person in Edinburgh. It is important that trustees allocate sufficient time to read Board papers and prepare for Board meetings. However, this is not onerous, and the time commitment should be no more than 2-4 hours per month on average.

The LGBTQ+ Telephone Group is a chance for blind and partially sighted people who identify as being a part of the LGBTQ+ community to come together for mutual friendship and support. The facilitator is a pivotal role within the group ensuring the group runs smoothly and that everybody has a chance to contribute to the group conversation as well as ensuring everybody’s welfare and flagging up any potential safeguarding concerns. You should either be a part of the LGBTQ+ community or be a strong ally who is committed to helping provide a safe space for participants to come together to share their experiences. You will be: Helping to ensure that participants feel comfortable and facilitate discussion. Helping group participants to feel safe to be in the group and to enable them to join in the group discussion each month. Looking after participant welfare within the group and flagging any welfare or safeguarding concerns to Talk and Support for follow up.

Driving the people we support between their homes and services in a safe manner, in accordance with UK law.

Driving around the Cheddar area, which will be the start and end point of the majority of journeys

Assisting people we support in and out of vehicles and locations – with assistance from trained Discovery staff.

Driving in a manner that is sensitive of physical and emotional requirements of the people we support.

Driving vehicles owned by the people we support or your own vehicle
Activities will NOT include: Personal care, medication or financial assistance.
We are looking for drivers who:

Are aged 21 or over, with at least 2 years driving experience

Hold a full, clean and current UK Driving License (or equivalent)

Have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions in relation to journeys

Are friendly with the people we support and our support staff

Are willing to commit to volunteer regularly (times and days can be discussed)
A DBS check and two character references will be required for this role.
