Our fundraising and engagement team at Teddington RNLI lifeboat station are a successful, motivated and very welcoming group who work brilliantly together as well as closely with the crew and water safety teams at Teddington.
The current fundraising lead is looking for someone to work alongside her and/ or take the lead on specific events and projects - it's all very open to discussion and we are very flexible. Current events range from comedy nights to duck races to station open days and chip suppers but the team are always looking for new ideas and are keen to develop what they do.
Meetings usually happen once a month at the lifeboat station and last about 1.5 hours. We would estimate the commitment, time wise, being around 3-6 hours a week. Some weeks there might be very little to nothing, the week of an event it might well be more like 12 hours, but it really is flexible - we want people to be able to volunteer around existing commitments.
No particular experience is necessary, but strong people skills are important, as are communication skills. Some experience in event management or fundraising would help, but really, this can be taught and learnt - it's much more important to us to find someone who is keen to join us, happy to muck in with everything from manning a duck race in the rain to booking venues for an event, to brainstorming event ideas over a cup of tea.

Do you want to support the running of a longstanding, free and highly-effective counselling service for young people?
You could be a trustee for Bracknell-based charity, Youthline.
Set up in 1988, now a Charitable Company Limited by Guarantee, we have just celebrated 35 successful years, offering more than 600 counselling hours to young people every month. Demand and complexity of services continue to increase, and we have thus improved space and availability to meet that demand.
Our anniversary year meant a new logo, and in 2023/24, our income was maintained at £220k, with a successful funding bid. Of course, income-generation remains a high priority, as for all charities.
The role and what we are looking for in a new trustee
Trustees are the people who make the top-level decisions for our charity. Our Board includes people with experience and skills in governing a youth counselling charity, and we require new trustees to have empathy with our cause and our beneficiaries.
You don’t necessarily need prior experience of charity trusteeship, as full induction and guidance from our trustees and staff will be provided, including access to external training, as needed.
We are looking for new trustees with some skills or experience in:
- Income-generation
- Employee & volunteer support/HR
- We also are looking for ‘general’ trustees who are interested in our mission and services
If you are unsure your abilities or experience fit our needs, please ask: we’re flexible how people can contribute to our charity. If you can think strategically and plan long-term, you have the primary skills needed by our trustees; you’ll also need to be able to work collectively with other Board members. Support from our paid employees is always available, as they deal with the day-to-day running of the organisation.
We are a charity not a business, but we apply business principles to governing our organisation. We are looking for people from a variety of backgrounds to join our Board, and want to expand the diversity of our board, in all meanings of the word, strongly welcoming applications from people from less-represented groups.
We ask for up to five hours of your time per month, less at some times of year, which includes all meetings, discussions, etc. You will need access to digital communications, as some of our charity’s business is run that way, with quarterly Board meetings face-to-face in Bracknell.

What is a Branch Fundraiser?
As part of a local team, our fundraisers represent SSAFA at events, and in public. The role includes helping at fayres, street collections, concerts, quizzes, raffles, sporting events etc.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
SSAFA branches rely on regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity, and grants for clients in urgent need. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role involves being out and about at public events and would suit someone looking to give the occasional day, half day or evening to support SSAFA; when and where would be flexible to suit you.
What would you be doing?
- Be part of a team with collection/buckets tins at events, supermarkets, shopping centres, etc.
- Acting as a marshal at a public event e.g., handing out water to runners, supervising parking etc.
- Being part of a team running a stall at an event, Armed Forces Day, fayre, county show etc.
- Helping with putting up posters, building gazebos, serving refreshments, packing/unpacking cars etc.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA, engaging people of all backgrounds and interests
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

Citadel Volunteer Role Description
Role Title: Citadel Volunteer Reporting To: Citadel Coordinator
What is Citadel?
Citadel is a project that matches people who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness with local community volunteers. Volunteers and the person they support normally meet once a week, to share a coffee, a conversation, a helping hand or a sympathetic ear.
Is that it? Well, sort of…
Citadel is just this, and yet SO MUCH more.
The word citadel literally means a ‘fortress 'or ‘stronghold’. The aim of the project is for people to find that ‘stronghold’ within the community and within themselves. By bringing together people who have experienced homelessness with volunteers.
The Citadel Volunteer may provide support with some, or all, of the following:

Emotional support - just being there to listen and share stories and experiences.

Connecting with the community - this could be through a community group, a club, a sport, a hobby, or just spending time in a local café. We love volunteers to bring their own passions and community connections with them to Citadel and to help the people they support to find or nurture theirs!

Support with finding a home – in some cases our volunteers help those in short term housing find their next step. This could be going along to house viewings or helping liaise with housing providers.

Support in making a house a home - Sourcing household items and furniture, help with moving or DIY and maintenance.
-
Support with keeping a home – by helping with budgeting, setting up utility accounts or understanding a tenancy and liaising with a landlord for example.
You may help with some or all these areas, but you do not need to be an expert at any of them and will receive support and training from your Citadel Coordinator. If you feel you have a specialism or excel in one of these areas, let us know - we can find a position that suits you!

Induction and Training

You will be given a full induction to Citadel and adequate training before meeting the person you’ll support. This training includes Lone working, Professional Boundaries and understanding trauma.

Safeguarding training is mandatory and will need to be completed before you volunteer with us - this protects everyone involved in the project.

We would also like to hear from you about any further training you would feel would be beneficial. Talk to your Coordinator if there is anything specific that would help you.

Regular training will continue whilst you volunteer with Citadel – this will be available online and face to face.
Support & Supervision

After the first meeting with the person you support, your Coordinator will check in with you to make sure you are happy with the match and address any concerns.

Following this, you will be required to attend supervision sessions bi-monthly. These will be facilitated by the Citadel Coordinator.

If you are unable to attend, please let the Citadel Coordinator know and alternative arrangements can be made.
Commitment

The nature of the Citadel Volunteer role is to develop a relationship within which support can be offered to the individual. You are expected to commit to the relationship for between 3-6 months (this can be shorter or longer). We ask that you commit to at least 1 hour per week.

The time and duration of meetings will be negotiated between you and the individual.

It is expected that you will meet on a weekly basis.

If you can volunteer for more hours each week, you may be matched with more than one client – please discuss this with your Coordinator.

What is a Branch Fundraiser?
As part of a local team, our fundraisers represent SSAFA at events, and in public. The role includes helping at fayres, street collections, concerts, quizzes, raffles, sporting events etc.
Why do we need you?
We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community since 1885. Our clients come from all backgrounds and age groups and may have served in WW2 or in a more recent conflict like the Falklands or Afghanistan.
There are SSAFA branches throughout the UK and overseas who support local volunteers to deliver services to veterans, serving personnel and their families. Some branches are divided into smaller divisions to ensure the best local service delivery. Each branch has a team of volunteer caseworkers, support volunteers, executive roles, and fundraisers.
SSAFA branches rely on regular charitable income to fund all the necessities behind our support for clients. This includes volunteer travel expenses, phone bills, publicity, and grants for clients in urgent need. A varied programme of fundraising also keeps the SSAFA profile high in the local community, so everyone knows who we are and how we can help.
When would you be needed and where would you be based?
This role involves being out and about at public events and would suit someone looking to give the occasional day, half day or evening to support SSAFA; when and where would be flexible to suit you.
What would you be doing?
- Be part of a team with collection/buckets tins at events, supermarkets, shopping centres, etc.
- Acting as a marshal at a public event e.g., handing out water to runners, supervising parking etc.
- Being part of a team running a stall at an event, Armed Forces Day, fayre, county show etc.
- Helping with putting up posters, building gazebos, serving refreshments, packing/unpacking cars etc.
- Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA, engaging people of all backgrounds and interests
- Volunteering within the standards and values of SSAFA including observing our policies such as the Volunteering policy and data protection policy (these will be covered in your training and local induction.)
The remit of this role may change over the next 12-18 months depending on the outcome of a trial currently being undertaken.

What will you be doing?
Longfield provides a range of services to people living with life limiting conditions, terminal diagnoses or with a need for end of life care, alongside supporting their families, carers and loved ones. We are looking for people with experience of one or more of the following,
- Enterprise & business development: Entrepreneurial and innovative with business expertise and income generation experience. Insights into commercial activities such as repurposing facilities or partnering with other providers, to maximize the use of resources for long-term sustainability.
- Fundraising & Income Generation: Broad understanding of income generation, particularly in engaging major donors and corporate partners, with a strong focus on diversifying income streams for financial sustainability.
- Retail: Commercial or charity retail experience, with a genuine interest in sustainable practices.
- IT: Strategic guidance on maximizing effective use of IT, driving IT innovation and ensuring strong cybersecurity measures across the charity.
- Finance: Finance background with experience in managing or being part of a finance team.

Key tasks you will be involved in are:
- Support the SLM team with stakeholder meetings
- Support the SLM team with race day plans, recruitment & procurement
- Arrange all in-country transport including buses, shuttles and 4x4’s

- Liaise with Street Child of Sierra Leone staff to organise programme visits
- Recruit race day sponsors and participants
To be a great fit for this position you will be a highly self-motivated and pro-active individual, with excellent organisational skills. We are ideally looking for someone with experience in logistics and event coordination, but are open to alternative, relevant experience.
