The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is looking for four members of the Conservation Advisory Committee.

Conservation Advisory Committee provides independent insight, advice and guidance to our Council of Trustees and Executive Board on conservation strategy, approaches, policy, and programmes, and advises them on positioning, risks and opportunities related to specific projects or policy issues.

In addition to making an important contribution to the work of the RSPB, through shaping its strategy and direction and influencing key decisions affecting its delivery of conservation outcomes, participating in an advisory committee can provide excellent networking opportunities, an opportunity to acquire practical experience of committee functions, decision-making process and further development of leadership skills, knowledge, and experience.

About you

We are looking for individuals with relevant experience to join our committees to provide independent, objective, challenging advice to support the Executive Board and Trustees in development and shaping of RSPB strategies.

Essential skills, knowledge, and experience across one or more of the following areas:

1. Knowledge of conservation delivery on land, including through agriculture and/or partnerships

2. Knowledge of conservation delivery in marine environments, policy, or operational context (including energy / fisheries sector)

3. Experience of effecting positive environmental change at in the public, private or not for profit sector

4. Experience working for or alongside the not-for-profit sector.

5. Understanding of delivery in International Operations and/or the UK Overseas Territories

6.Conservation Finance

7. Understanding of climate and social justice; working with diverse communities, people of colour and indigenous communities

We are looking for a new Trustee who is willing to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our board. The Care Workers' Charity supports social care workers across the UK by providing mental health and wellbeing support, financial support in the form of crisis grants, and signposting applicants to other organisations and resources.

We are particularly looking for trustees who:

• have expertise or experience in industries apart from the care sector, or
• have experience of fundraising, or
• have charity experience, or
• have marketing experience, or
• have finance experience

Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that The Care Workers’ Charity achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity and ensure that The Care Workers’ Charity has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Where they have specific expertise such as fundraising, they work with the CWC team, providing coaching or connections in order for us to raise funds to enable us to support as many care workers as we can. Just as importantly, they support and challenge the executive team to enable us to grow and thrive.

As a small charity, there will be times when the trustees will need to be actively involved beyond Board meetings. This may involve leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, presenting externally, representing the Charity, or other issues in which the trustee has special expertise. Our trustees have a key role in risk management, working with the staff team to identify and manage risks.

Our Board meetings are mostly remote with one held face-to-face each year in London and occasionally we ask trustees to represent the Charity at events or award ceremonies, or at stakeholder events which are held close to the trustee's location.

Duties:

• Support and provide advice on The Care Workers’ Charity’s purpose, vision, goals and activities.
• Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
• Oversee The Care Workers’ Charity’s financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
• Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
• Review and approve The Care Workers’ Charity’s financial statements.
• Provide support and challenge to our CEO in the exercise of their delegated authority and affairs.
• Keep abreast of changes in our operating environment.
• Contribute to regular reviews of The Care Workers’ Charity’s own governance.
• Attend Board meetings (mostly remote and possibly one being face-to-face), adequately prepared to contribute to discussions and respond promptly to requests for required action.

We are seeking a Trustee Treasurer to help to manage our finances and investments, as well as being involved in strategic decision-making and grant giving.

The Lipman Miliband Trust is a charity whose purpose is to support socialist research and education as well as “educational activities that raise public awareness and understanding of struggles and movements for peace, human rights and a more equal, diverse co-operative and democratic society.”

The Trust was established by socialist businessman Michael Lipman in 1974 and academic Ralph Miliband until his death in 1994. We are celebrating fifty years of the Trust’s existence this year – and looking forward to the next 50!

Having benefited from a significant increase in resources in recent years we have started on an exciting new phase of our development that has meant increasing staff support and expanding our outreach, fund-raising and grant-giving activities.

We are currently a Board of ten trustees and we are now seeking a Trustee Treasurer who shares our values and our belief in the vital importance of socialist education. You will work with our Trust Coordinator as well as external advisors and accountants in helping to manage our finances and investments, and be a member of our Governance and Finance Working Group. As is the case with all charities, our finances are critical to the success of our work so experience or understanding of financial management and accounting would be very welcome. This is a voluntary, unpaid post, but we are happy to pay for appropriate additional training and there will be a lot of support from the Trust Coordinator and other trustees. 

Being a Trustee is a significant commitment and responsibility, but it is also hugely rewarding. The role will require you to attend each of our four Trustee meetings a year, and to participate in regular online meetings of the Finance & Governance Working Group. You will be part of strategic decision-making about the Trust, contribute towards the Trust’s governance and take part in decisions about grant awards.

We are based in different locations around the country and most of our work is conducted online, however we aim to meet in-person as a Board at least twice a year.

Strategic Finance & Risk Trustee:

CFT is seeking a finance and risk Trustee who has a background as a Chief Finance Officer or senior Finance Director who can offer strategic guidance to a multi-faceted, multi-million-pound charity at this pivotal time in their growth.

This individual needs to be a qualified accountant with significant experience in operating at a strategic level. A person who appreciates the needs of a complex and growing organisation with diverse income and expenditure is needed for this role. CFT’s finances are multi-faceted because they apply for funding, distribute grants and are also developing their Green Finance work so that they can monetise the outputs of England’s Community Forests, as appropriate. They are also diversifying their income including through fundraising.

The new trustee will also Chair the quarterly Finance & Risk Committee for CFT and attend the quarterly Board meetings. They will work with the CEO and Finance Manager as well as the external auditors concerning all financial matters and relevant reporting cycles.

Human Resources Trustee:

CFT needs a senior HR professional with Organisational Development experience who can offer strategic advice and support to their People Strategy and Plan. CFT, also, have a multi-faceted people management model with a small team of direct employees and a much larger pool of people who are employed by partners such as ECF and Local Authorities. They work with external professional HR support but want to develop a proactive People Strategy and monitor its operational implementation so that they can ensure all people working across the forests are aligned to the shared ambitions and purpose of England’s forests and are offered a rigorous career pathway.

CFT want to inspire people from diverse and under-represented communities to get involved in forests and to establish and champion working with trees and in forests as the attractive profession that it is.

They, also, want to embed best practices and policies into their People strategy and to ensure EDI, Learning & Development and Safeguarding are key parts of this. This new Trustee will Chair the HR Committee.

The role of the Independent member is to provide the Safety Committee and the Movement with knowledge and experience to make key decisions. 

The remit of the Committee is to support the Board of Trustees to fulfil its responsibilities in relation to Safety by: 

• Providing vision and direction for consideration and endorsement by the Board (as required) by identifying and contributing to the development of safety policies, procedures and guidance; 
• Ensuring that youth members, adult volunteers, parents and staff are engaged in contribution to the development of safety policies;

The GSF is a registered charity and has been the UK’s leading training provider for generalist frontline staff in caring for people in the last years of life for over 25 years. GSF is a practical and evidence-based end of life care improvement programme.

Its aim is to enable a ‘gold standard’ of care for everyone, with any condition, in any setting, given by any care provider, at any time in a person’s last years of life.

Phab Nottingham provides activities and days out for children with disabilities. This is an opportunity to help improve the lives of our members, help them develop skills and friendships, and through your leadership role ensure that the charity continues to support hundreds of young people in the years to come.

Trustees play a crucial and key role in the setting up of Youth Mix, the strategic direction and steering of our new youth charity, ensuring we are a fantastic youth-led organisation for young people aged 16 to 26 years old. Trustees will also ensure quality, stability and positive outcomes for both young people and our new charity as we set up and start our journey.

This is an exciting time for the Charity as we roll out our mentoring programme. Following strategic discussions, we are now looking to reinforce and enrich our Trustee Board to provide support and guidance to our Operational Team to enable them to achieve our ambitious 1 year and 3-year plans, whilst also ensuring robust succession plans in place for the Board.

To that end, we are looking to appoint a trustee with experience in social media management and marketing to help develop and implement our social media strategy and expand and engage our followers.

The Green House offers this lifeline, delivering the only specialist service to children, young people and families who have experienced sexual abuse living in Avon and Somerset. 

We are currently recruiting for a new Treasurer to join our Trustee board. As a Trustee of The Green House, you will play a crucial role in setting the strategic direction of the charity and ensuring good governance. You will contribute to ensuring that the charity fulfils its mission, operates effectively, and remains accountable to survivors of child sexual abuse, and their families.

In addition to the general duties as Trustee, as Treasurer you will ensure that effective and appropriate financial measures, controls, and procedures are put in place and report to the Board at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation.

Duties of the Treasurer 

• Oversee the presentation of budgets, internal management accounts and annual financial statements to the Board of Trustees 

• Ensure that proper accounting records are kept, and that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.

• Ensure that robust and comprehensive financial policies and insurances are in place, are revised as and when required, and are being implemented.

• Monitor and advise on the financial viability of the charity.

• Oversee and develop financial controls and adherence to systems, regularly liaising with The Green House’s Business Development Manager and CEO. 

• Advise on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plan, including overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process and advising the Trustee Board representative and In-House Fundraising Team. 

• Ensure investments and assets are maximized. 

• Lead on the appointment of and liaison with external auditors. 

• Ensure that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by relevant statutory bodies, including the Charity Commission and the Registrar of Companies. 

• Keep the board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities and liaising with the Chief Executive to develop the financial understanding of the Board of Trustees. 

Terms of appointment 

Terms of office 

• Trustees are appointed for a three-year term of office, with renewal for two further terms to a maximum of three years. 

• This is a voluntary position, but all reasonable expenses are covered. 

Time commitment (Approximately 2-4 days a month) 

• Attend monthly Board meetings. These are typically held on a Thursday evening at 6pm. Most meetings are virtual although we do meet in-person on a quarterly basis. 

• Attend monthly Finance and Resources Meetings (max 1hr 30). These are typically held on a Monday evening at 6pm. Most meetings are virtual. Ensuring that there is sufficient time within the month to work with the Business Development Manager to oversee and contribute to any actions relating to the Trustee Board and the role of the Treasurer (1.5 days per month). 

• Additional time is needed to take ownership of actions that arise from meetings (from supporting with recruitment and exit interviews where appropriate, to attending events on The Green House’s behalf). You will also need to be flexible in responding to emergent time-urgent issues when they arise. 

• We also ask Trustees to attend an initial induction day at The Green House, The Green House’s annual Festival of Activism against Child Sexual Abuse (1 day in early February) and spend a strategy day with the staff team (typically 1 day September). From time to time, depending on the nature of the Fundraising activity it may be necessary for Trustee’s to attend fundraising events/meetings with the CEO.

• Trustees are appointed for a three-year term of office, with renewal for two further terms to a maximum of three years. 

• This is a voluntary position, but all reasonable expenses are covered. 

Time commitment (Approximately 2-4 days a month) 

• Attend monthly Board meetings. These are typically held on a Thursday evening at 6pm. Most meetings are virtual although we do meet in-person on a quarterly basis. 

• Additional time is needed to take ownership of actions that arise from meetings (from supporting with recruitment and exit interviews where appropriate, to attending events on The Green House’s behalf). • We also ask Trustees to attend an initial induction day at The Green House, The Green House’s annual Festival of Activism against Child Sexual Abuse (1 day in early February) and spend a strategy day with the staff team (typically 1 day September). From time to time, depending on the nature of the Fundraising activity it may be necessary for Trustee’s to attend fundraising events/meetings with the CEO.

The Green House Bristol is looking for a new Chair of Trustees to join our Trustee board. As Chair of Trustees, you will play a critical leadership role and ensure the Trustee board functions effectively. 

Overview of the role 

3 in 20 girls and 1 in 20 boys will experience sexual violence before they turn 18. Yet, with access to the right help, children and their families can heal and recover. The Green House offers this lifeline, delivering the only specialist service to children, young people and families who have experienced sexual abuse living in Avon and Somerset. 

We are currently recruiting for a new Chair of Trustees to join our Trustee board. As a Trustee of The Green House, you will play a crucial role in setting the strategic direction of the charity and ensuring good governance. You will contribute to ensuring that the charity fulfils its mission, operates effectively, and remains accountable to survivors of child sexual abuse, and their families.

In addition to the general duties as Trustee, as Chair you will be in a leadership role: overseeing the Trustee board, acting as a spokesperson and ambassador for the charity, and working closely with The Green House’s CEO. 

Please note that you will also be appointed as a Director of The Green House, reflecting our registration as both a charity and a Private Limited Company.

About you 

You will need previous experience acting as a Trustee, but it is not essential to have experience as a Chair of Trustees. We are looking for you to demonstrate:

Duties of all Trustees 

• Prepare for and attend Board meetings, using your skills, expertise, and knowledge to contribute to discussions. 

• Participate in setting the charity’s strategic direction. Contribute to decision-making on key matters, including long-term planning, financial sustainability, and program development. 

• Provide support, learning and challenge to The Green House’s CEO. 

• Ensure The Green House acts in line with its governing document and complies with all relevant laws and regulations. 

• Ensure the charity lives its values (hope, creativity, and connection), delivering accountability to children who have experienced sexual abuse and their families. 

• Monitor operational progress against The Green House’s new strategy. 

• Ensure the charities financial and wider resources are being used effectively and treated with care. 

• Ensure all relevant policies and procedures are in place and are being implemented. 

• Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored, and controlled effectively.

• Lead the board in ensuring that it fulfils its responsibilities for the governance of the organisation. 

• Plan and chair monthly board meetings. 

• Act as a spokesperson and ambassador for The Green House.

Our mission is to help and support homeless and vulnerably housed people in and around the London Borough of Merton. We operate a twice-weekly Drop-in, currently welcoming 50-60 individuals each day, while our Winter Night Shelter provides a warm, dry place to sleep every night during the coldest nights of the year – this winter from 4 December until 10 March 2024.

Our current Secretary is retiring, having completed the maximum of nine years in the role. We’re now looking for an enthusiastic and committed volunteer for the role which covers the following positions:

The current incumbent fulfils both roles but we would consider splitting the responsibilities if two complementary applications were received.

The Company Secretary & Secretary is a volunteer with an active role in the work of the organisation. The Faith in Action Merton Homelessness Project (FIAMHP) Board of Trustees, Company Secretary & Secretary, together with senior staff, form the Management Committee of the Charity.

Company Secretary’s responsibilities:

The Company Secretary keeps the organisation legal by:

• Working with Trustees to ensure that the Charity complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, company law, employment law, and any other relevant legislation or regulations.

• Ensuring that the Trustees are aware of the requirement to comply with relevant codes such as the Code of Conduct for Charity Trustees and the Charities Governance Code, and that these are adhered to.

• Ensuring that the Articles of Association reflect the current work of the Charity, liaising with the Charity Commission and Companies House as appropriate if an update is needed.

• Liaison with Treasurer as needed.

• Filing annual Confirmation Statements and other Company Returns including the annual Trustees Report & Accounts with Companies House and the Charity Commission by the due dates.

• Advising Companies House and the Charity Commission of changes to Company and Charity details by the due dates – this includes Trustee appointments and resignations.

• Maintaining the statutory records.

• Monitoring the composition of the Trustee board, and liaising with the Chair and other Trustees to ensure that new Trustees are recruited as necessary, so that all roles needed are covered. Organising new Trustee applications and interviews, and obtaining references.

• Organising and running the Annual General Meeting, and any other General Meetings required.

• Any other duties which may reasonably arise.

Secretary’s duties

The job of the FIAMHP Secretary is to assist the Trustees in the smooth running of the organisation by:

• Organising Management Committee meetings in consultation with the Chair and other Trustees: setting meeting dates and venues; producing meeting agendas, receiving and sending out meeting notices and papers, checking that meetings are quorate, taking meeting minutes, liaising with the Chair and other Trustees as necessary; sending out draft minutes.

• Assist with liaison between Trustees, Staff and Volunteers as needed.

• Awareness of the work of the organisation and the needs of its guests and service users.

• Ensuring that decisions and actions of the Board of Trustees are accurately recorded and implemented.

• Maintaining an appropriate and secure filing system so that all Trustee papers are retained and accessible.

• Assisting with Business Plan development and the Trustees’ Annual Report as required.

• Ensuring that Policies and Risk Register are filed and accessible to all who need access.

• Tracking progress with implementation of the organisation’s Business Plan.

• Ensuring that any correspondence for Trustees is brought to the attention of the Board.

• Any other duties which may reasonably arise.

The Company Secretary and Secretary must have:

● Commitment to the Charity and its work.

● Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties and responsibilities of being a Company Secretary

Walk to Independence (WTI) is an emerging charity committed to bridging the gap in support services for adults with special educational needs (SEN) transitioning out of formal education settings. Our mission is to establish a nurturing environment where SEN individuals can foster independence, empowerment, and community integration. At WTI, we prioritise upholding the rights of individuals with SEN, ensuring their autonomy, dignity, and inclusion in society.

WTI is in the process of establishment and is actively seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to serve as founding trustees. Trustees play a pivotal role in steering the strategic direction, governance, and oversight of the organisation, particularly in the crucial phase of charity registration.

• Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction and leadership to guide WTI in achieving its mission and objectives.

• Support and Evaluation: Guide the executive team, staff, and volunteers, and participate in evaluating WTI's programs and services.

Qualifications:

• Passion for the mission and values of WTI, including a commitment to the rights and inclusion of individuals with SEN.
• Previous experience in governance, leadership, or management roles, preferably within the charity sector or relevant field.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to think strategically, analyse complex issues, and make informed decisions.
• Willingness to dedicate time and effort to fulfil trustee responsibilities effectively, especially during the charity registration process.
• Knowledge of fundraising, financial management, or legal matters is desirable but not essential.

Time Commitment:

Trustees are expected to attend regular board meetings (approximately 4-6 times per year), participate in committee work or working groups as needed, and engage in occasional ad hoc tasks or events. The time commitment may vary but is estimated to be approximately 5-10 hours per month on average.

Location: 

The role of trustee is primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings or events in London as required.
