We are currently seeking enthusiastic individuals who are willing to learn, collaborate effectively, demonstrate emotional intelligence, and engage fully with the aims and objectives of our organisation to join our Board. We are looking for people who can bring a variety of skills and experience, including the ability to work strategically, expertise in charity governance and compliance, and commercial acumen.

As we embark on shaping a new strategy for the Council to run from 2025 onwards, we are particularly keen to welcome Trustees who will bring diverse perspectives and ensure our Board is inclusive and representative.

As a trustee, you will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in influencing policy, strengthening membership engagement, and shaping the future direction of our organisation. We’re looking for people who are positive about social change and love literacy. No experience working with children or young people is necessary as full training is provided. 

Sessions run during term time Mon-Fri, 3:45-6:45pm. 

We're looking for Virtual Volunteers (based in the UK and aged 16 and over) to join us at our online after-school sessions, where you will be supporting young people aged 9 to 13 with their reading and writing and championing their work as they become published poets, authors and podcast creators!

We are looking for online English teachers to join our vibrant team! 

HBC offers online English classes using Zoom on Wednesdays and Fridays 10am-1pm UK time. Classes run for about 45 minutes, offering L0- literacy, L1-Beginner, L2- Elementary and L3- Intermediate. We also do some one-one literacy tutoring. The classes start on the hour. Some of our teachers teach multiple classes and some only teach one depending on their availability. As an online English teacher, your responsibilities will include preparing and delivering lessons to improve students' reading, writing, and speaking skills.

Numberfit is a social enterprise that makes learning maths fun and engaging for children across age groups and attainment levels. 

With this role, you will help us research, develop, and write grant proposals to various organisations. Your ability to effectively convey our organisation's goals, impact, and needs through compelling proposals will directly contribute to our ability to fund and execute projects that make a positive impact in children’s education and wellbeing.

Full training will be given and no experience is necessary.

Your responsibilities will be:

• Researching and identifying relevant grant opportunities aligned with our mission and programmes.
• Collaborating with the team to gather necessary information for proposals.
• Writing clear, concise, and compelling grant applications and proposals.
• Ensuring all grant proposals meet the submission requirements and deadlines.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Marie Curie Helper is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.

Helper volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.
• Provide one-to-one companionship and support. 

For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement.  This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested 

(This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Helper volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)

• Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone 
• Submit regular visit reports to your manager and update relevant computer systems as required 
• Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
• Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator, training and group events as required 
• Represent the Marie Curie Helper service positively to those using the service

Do you have experience of terminal illness? Or have you experience of caring for someone at the end of their life?

Why we need your help

We’re looking for people from diverse backgrounds and with a range of experiences related to terminal illness, end of life and bereavement, to join our group of I&S Voices volunteers.

As an I&S Voices volunteer, you will share your story and give us your feedback on what we produce so we can keep improving the information and support we have on our website and in print.

What will you be doing?

Your role might include some of the following:

• Reading and sharing your thoughts on a piece of written content.
• Watching and giving your opinion on a video.
• Having a phone call to talk about your experience.
• Being part of a group discussion about a particular topic.

It’s fantastic that you’d like to find out more about volunteering at St Mungo’s. We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us at one of our cheer points at the Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday 19 May 2024! We’re National Charity Partners for the race and have a team of 100 amazing runners taking part on the day.

We’re looking for cheer point volunteers who are able to give a few hours of their time on the morning of the race, to help us cheer on our team of runners and show them how much we appreciate all the hard work that has gone into their fundraising and training. Your role will be to make as much noise as possible and give our runners a huge cheer as they pass by!

Please see all locations and the time commitments we are currently recruiting for in this role:

• London Fields – Mile 8.5 (please find more information in the role description). We’d ideally like you to join us between 10.00am-12.00pm on the day, but any time you could spare would be much appreciated!

Why we need your help 

Coping with bereavement involves painful emotions, coming to terms with loss and making adjustments in life. Many people find it a great comfort to have someone to talk to about how they are feeling during this difficult time.  

We are looking for volunteers to provide emotional support over the phone to adults who have been bereaved by a terminal illness. This role will be supporting individuals who have made contact with us through our national telephone Support Line. You will be helping them to explore their feelings and adapt to life post-bereavement. Training, support and supervision will be provided.  

What we need you to do 

Your role will include the following tasks:

• Provide short-term emotional support over the phone to matched clients for up to 6, 45-minute, sessions (normally 1 or 2 at any given time) 
• Actively listen to clients and explore their feelings around their loss with empathy and sensitivity
• Direct clients to relevant sources of information and support as needed
• Complete necessary documentation as required by the service (e.g. Confidential Working Agreement) and pass on appropriate service information to your supervising manager 
• Participate in one-to-one and or group supervision with an assigned contact on a regular basis (around once a month, by phone or skype) 
• Undertake both initial and ongoing training in line with the role, some of which will be face-to-face, some independent study. This includes attending a two-day (likely weekend) training programme.

What skills or experience do you need? 

• Ability to provide emotional support without judgement and within boundaries 
• Ability to deal sensitively with bereaved people and have an awareness of their individual needs 
• Patience, empathy and emotional stability 
• Commitment and reliability – able to keep to appointments and volunteer for the duration of a client match 
• An understanding of the importance of safeguarding and maintaining client confidentiality
• Willingness to learn and undertake required training and participate in support supervision 
• Basic IT skills and the ability, or willingness to learn, to use the calling system.
• Welsh speaking is desirable

Working requirements 

• A quiet and confidential space for working, away from distraction or interruption
• Access to a smartphone, laptop or desktop computer
• Available at the same time every week for up to 6 sessions
• Willingness and ability to travel within the UK once or twice a year for training and support – training will require a weekend, (overnight stay depending on location). Expenses will be reimbursed.
