The Magpie Project are looking for a new Chair of Trustees to support their Board make strategic decisions for the benefit of the families the Magpie Project helps every day.
This is a wonderful opportunity for a charismatic leader to bring their charity experience and leadership skills to support the Board and the leadership team to ensure our organisation can continue meeting the increasing demand for our services.

We believe all children have the right to a secure, safe place to play, healthy food, engaged, informed parents, and access to support, no matter what their family circumstances.
We provide a safe and fun place for mums and pre-school children suffering in temporary or insecure accommodation.
What will you do
- Provide leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees that enable the Board to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of The Magpie Project.
- Ensure that The Magpie Project pursues its objects as defined in its governing document, charity law, and other relevant legislation/applicable regulations.
- Work with the Board of Trustees to support the staff and volunteers, and mums’ steering committee, to ensure the Magpie Project adheres to its core values of coproduction, compassion, and trauma-informed work.
- Lead by example to enable the Board of Trustees to practice collaborative, informed, carefully considered, strategic decision making.
- Embody our commitment to active anti-racist, trauma-informed, child-centred, relationship-based working with women and children experiencing multiple disadvantages.
Who we are looking for
- Previous experience on the Board of a UK charity (essential).
- Knowledge of UK charity governance (essential).
- Fluent in written and spoken English (essential).
- Previous experience as Chair of a charity Board of Trustees (desirable).
We are keen to hear from those whose background and experience resonates with that of the women we support; applicants from a West African, Middle Eastern, Albanian heritage and those with experience of forced migration or homelessness.
Time commitment
Average 2-3 hours per week, although this will vary depending on the schedule of meetings and other events.

Face-to-Face Volunteers play a vital part at EOPFS as they work closely with the Service Manager to meet the needs of the service along with supporting Floating Support Workers.
The primary purpose of the Face-to-Face Volunteer would be to support our Ealing Community Discharge Service when we have referrals. The Volunteer will assist the Service Manager in facilitating a discharge from hospital back to their home address. An example of this would be to support the Service User with getting groceries so that food is available for them when they are discharged.

Red Balloon is a dynamic education charity with a number of Learner Centres throughout the UK that support young people who self-exclude from school and are missing education because of bullying or other trauma. They provide both an academic and therapeutic programme to enable their students to get back on track and reconnect with society. The Safe Space is a local hub for anyone who feels they are nearing crisis point. We are here to listen to what you need and work with you to help. This might be strategies to help you cope in the moment, a range of activities we provide free of charge, resources to take away or connecting you with practical local services. We offer face to face, telephone and video-conference support. As a part of this, we are looking for volunteers to offer peer led support to individuals who may access our service. This includes a variety of tasks, such as devising and facilitating peer led workshops with clients, supporting with 1:1 sessions, and completing administrative tasks.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has lived experience of mental health/social crisis
- Preferably have had experience working with people who experience poor mental health

- Are willing to actively participate with clients 1:1 and in group settings
- Are able to take on any ad hoc admin/support responsibilities within the Safe Space Team
Time commitment and expenses:

Our experts offer support that’s tailored to the individual needs of each person, whether that’s at our centres, through our holidays and short breaks, or in people’s own homes. In addition to practical support, we also provide information to families, and campaign for the rights of people with complex disabilities to take part in life.

About the volunteering opportunity
- Help spot our Team Sense runners in the crowd and provide some much-needed encouragement as they whizz towards the finish line.
- Expect lots of cheers, whoops and chants as we show our appreciation to the over 500 incredible runners taking part in this iconic event for people with complex disabilities.
- We’ll provide you with an orange Sense t-shirt for you to wear on the day or bring yours if you have one already. We will also have clappers, cheer sticks and pom poms to make sure we’re the loudest cheer point on the course!
- Wear comfortable clothing and footwear as you will be on your feet all day and be prepared for any weather conditions - layers are best and something to protect you from any potential rain is essential. Only bring what you can carry though, as you’ll need to be mobile within crowds when traveling to and from the cheer point.
- There are shops and take aways nearby or feel free to bring your own food and drink to have at the cheer point.
Once you’ve completed the registration stage, the team will be in touch to give you more specific details about your role on the day and where to meet your fellow #TeamSense volunteers.
