Our Hospice and Head Office buildings and surrounding grounds require regular upkeep to ensure a comfortable and pleasant environment for the children and families who use our services. Maintenance Volunteers and Grounds Volunteers play a crucial role in this, by offering their skills and time to help us with various tasks.

Minimum age requirement: 18
Location: Ty Hafan, Hayes Road, Sully, Penarth, CF64 5XX
Hours: Flexible (min 2 per week, Mon-Fri)

We provide comfort, care and fun to children with life-shortening conditions, whilst supporting their families and helping them to make a short life, a full life; creating precious memories and helping them to make the most of the time they have together.

As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:

Maintenance Volunteer:
• Fixing cosmetic issues
• Supporting other larger DIY and maintenance projects as needed
Grounds Person
• Picking up litter
• Keeping footpaths clear and safe
• Sweeping all external areas
• Clearing leaves and debris
• Removing moss and weeds from paths
• Washing external areas around our Head Office
• Jet washing external areas
• Clearing bin stores

• A keen eye for detail
• Collaborate with others and also work on your own when needed

• You have a passion or background (professional or personal) in DIY/maintenance related activities

As a Till & Customer Service Volunteer, you will be responsible for greeting customers, processing sales and keeping the shop tidy and attractive. You will also be supporting our mission to help make a short life a full life for children in Wales with life-shortening illnesses. Join our team today and make a positive impact on your community and beyond!
Our shops operate Monday-Saturday/Sunday, 9am-5pm and we appreciate any time you can spare; whether it's a few hours a week, a half day each week or several days per week.

Our shops generate funds that directly support the whole family, from therapeutic services for children, to respite care for families, to sibling support activities & experiences.

As a Volunteer Gardener, you will help maintain and beautify our Hospice gardens, where we provide palliative care and support for children with life-shortening conditions. Gardening is not only a rewarding hobby, but also a therapeutic activity that can bring joy and comfort to those who need it the most. Join our team of compassionate and dedicated volunteers today, and help us create a green oasis for our hospice community.
Considerations:
Minimum age requirement: 18
Due to the nature of the activities and current projects, we are looking for volunteers with skills, in depth knowledge and experience in gardening, either as a profession or as a hobby.
Our Garden volunteers help out on a Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday each week
Occasional weekend volunteering

As a volunteer, you could be involved in various activities depending on your preferences, skills and experience, these include:
• Sorting and pricing donations according to our guidelines (or your own knowledge if applicable)
• Preparing items for sale, such as steaming, ironing, tagging and labeling

• Keeping the stockroom clean and safe of any hazards
• Following our health and safety procedures
• Working as part of a friendly team

Our Community Engagement Volunteers are an extension of our Fundraising team and act as champions for Tŷ Hafan within their local community.
They are passionate about their cause and eager to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
Supported by your local Regional Fundraiser, you will help us with various fundraising activities depending on your skills and confidence.
You will receive a full induction and ongoing training, as well as opportunities to meet other volunteers and have fun throughout the year.

To be a Community Fundraising Volunteer, you need to have a good knowledge of your local area and potential supporters, and a genuine enthusiasm for our cause. It would also be helpful if you are:
• Able to speak Welsh (not essential for all volunteers, but we welcome Welsh speakers)
• Confident and comfortable speaking in public about what we do
• Familiar with using social media

In this role, you will work with our talented team made up of the Handcrafted project manager and other multi-skilled volunteers to create beautiful, high quality items for our Handcrafted by Tŷ Hafan Etsy shop.
By doing this, you will help us raise funds to support children with life-shortening conditions and their families.
The funds you help us raise will go towards providing care and support for the whole family. This includes therapy treatments for children, respite care for families, and activities and experiences for siblings.

• Have sewing skills - hand or machine, embroidery
• Have a passion for upcycling and craft
• Are interested in running Handcrafted pop-up shops at events in the local community (optional).

We are looking for reliable and enthusiastic volunteers to be part of our Hub Team. Working in the main hospital atrium you will be the first friendly face people see when they come in to speak to the Charity or to browse our merchandise.
The role will involve chatting to people about the Charity, providing information, handling cash and card transactions and keeping the hub clean and tidy.
This is a regular weekly opportunity working a 2-3 hours shift between 9am-5pm Wednesday to Friday. Suggested shifts:
- Weds: 9-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-4pm
- Thurs: 9-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-4pm
- Fri: 9-11am, 11am-1pm, 1pm-4pm
We are particularly keen to find for someone who could volunteer from 1-3pm on a Tuesday or between 11am-2pm on a Wednesday, but any regular time you can give would be very much appreciated and these shifts are flexible.
We are looking for someone who could ideally commit to at least 6 months.
All volunteers have to go through the UHB Trust volunteering registration which includes a DBS check. All training will be provided by your Volunteer Coordinator.

Marie Curie and Northern Health and Social Care Trust have joined together to offer a service to support people at the end of life.
Spending time with patients and/or their relatives, we’re looking for volunteers to provide emotional support, a listening ear, and to simply be there for patients with a palliative diagnosis and their loved ones.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING.
Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:
- Support patients in line with agreed boundaries and procedures
- Spend time listening and talking with patients, family, friends, and carers.
- Signpost families and friends to other services, as appropriate
- Write and submit, to the Volunteer Manager, a brief report on each visit.
- Keep the Service Manager informed of any changes of significant happenings in connection with the client, either in person or by telephone
- Be an active part of the team of Marie Curie Companions and the wider team of Antrim Area Hospital’s volunteers.
- Attend regular group support and development sessions for Marie Curie Companions
- Help with other related tasks when necessary.
