COPA is a small national registered charity run by older people for older people in Wales. We are the “national voice” for local older people’s groups and want to make sure that older people are listened to, and their demands are acted on. We feed the views and opinions of fora and groups directly into both government and national public organisations. There is strength in numbers and a demand for well organised and informed lobbying that can have  a greater influence and reach than is feasible by any individual or  local group

The number and proportion of older people in Wales has been increasing for decades and their needs have become more complex and diverse. Changes in society and politics mean that the challenges facing many older people, particularly those on low incomes or in poor health are struggling to be sufficiently recognised. In COPA we have prioritised a range of issues to address including tackling age discrimination, creating Age Friendly Communities, building intergenerational solidarity, tackling isolation and loneliness, and cost of living and digital inclusion, as well as health, social care, housing and transport. We campaign from a position of independence and the self-determined voice of older people.

In order to address this important agenda and strengthen our charity we are looking to recruit a number of new trustees in 2025. COPA would like to invite any individuals who may be interested in becoming a Trustee to contact us. Legal Trustee

We seek a legal professional with expertise in governance, compliance, or education law. Your knowledge will help ensure that the Trust meets its legal and regulatory responsibilities, mitigating risks and supporting effective decision-making. Experience in HR law, charity law, or contracts law would be advantageous.

Job Overview
We are seeking dedicated and passionate volunteers to join our team. This role is perfect for individuals looking to make a positive impact in the community while gaining valuable experience. As a Volunteer, you will have the opportunity to support blind and partially sighted people to attend and enjoy social and peer-support groups and activities such as the Visual Impairment and disability accessible sport Boccia. The group currently meet from 1pm to 3pm with support from charity staff from Galloways. We are looking for volunteers to help to create and maintain a supportive environment, to keep the conversation flowing, make brews, guide people and be a friendly voice.

Duties

• Assist in the planning and supporting community events and activities.
• Support in creating a safe and encouraging atmosphere.
• Making brews and keeping the drink preparation area clean and tidy
• Help maintain an organised environment by setting up and clearing away equipment or materials used during events.
• Participate in training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge relevant to your volunteer role.

Why we want you

Prison in reach volunteers support members of the Armed Forces community who are in prison. They make a real difference by providing essential support during these incredibly difficult times.

Our volunteers work closely with veterans in custody support officers, attending veteran forums, and offering one to one support, including making applications for financial assistance. We also connect clients with organisations, to help support pathways for positive change.

We are keen to increase volunteer diversity, especially from under-represented groups such as young people, those of working age and individuals from minoritised groups.

What you will be doing

• Attend group forums for veterans within the prison environment.
• Complete individual assessments and complete one to one personalised support for veterans within the prison environment, which includes casework.
• Promote the services available to family members.
• Establish an agreement around the rate of visits with the VCJS team and the prison.
• Record the support offered to veterans accordingly and appropriately.
• Complete monitoring reports.

The skills you need

• Be over 21.
• Have a good level of fitness to able to move around a prison quickly - including stairs.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Awareness of boundaries and confidentiality.
• Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a range of people, including prison staff, other agencies, SSAFA colleagues and clients.
• Positive, committed and non-judgemental. Non-judgemental and empathetic attitude.
• Good IT skills.
• An enhanced DBS check is required for this role. Individual prisons will determine if they authorise individuals to be based in their facilities based on security considerations. Security Vetting by His Majesty’s Prison Service is often required. For further discussion, please get in touch.
• You will need to declare potential conflicts of interest, for example any family connection with the prison.

Why did you want to become a Lead Volunteer?

I chose to volunteer at Mind, specifically because of the cause – I support the charity in what they want to achieve. Mind also supported me through the lockdown period during the pandemic, which I found very isolating.

I’ve volunteered for Mind for 20 years - I started volunteering for Mind in 2005. At the time, I had a full-time job, but I wanted to try volunteering. I’ve volunteered in a number of Mind shops, including Wallsend, Whitley Bay, Gateshead (which was where I became a Lead Volunteer) and finally, North Shields.

I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer to gain more experience, which I can then pass onto others. I now undertake key holder duties in my current shop. It was a little scary to begin with, but there was plenty of support from the wider region and I feel really proud to now be doing the role.

What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?

I’ve developed my technology skills – I’ve learnt how to use the till, how to use the computer including emails and Microsoft Teams, how to complete eLearning and the new Gift Aid hub. I struggled a bit before with technology, so it’s really helped me to be exposed to it more. I’ve also developed cash handling skills and how to deal with external contractors. My confidence has really grown and I’m also now able to cover local stores too!

What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?

I really enjoy giving amazing customer service and working with the team of staff and volunteers – we have lots of fun whilst we work! The shop has a great atmosphere. My Shop Manager has said she couldn’t do without me! I would really recommend for anyone to come and volunteer with Mind – it’s a great way to meet new people.

I wanted to become a Lead Volunteer because I wanted to take on more responsibilities and keep myself as productive as possible. By taking on more responsibilities, I’m able to support the wider team with certain activities within the shop. It’s also helped me become less focused on my myself and my own problems. I suffer from low self-esteem and felt that by becoming a Lead Volunteer, it would help strengthen my self-worth.

What knowledge and skills have you gained or developed whilst being in the Lead Volunteer role?

As I have never worked in retail, becoming a Lead Volunteer has given me more insight into how the retail industry and how Mind Retail operates day-to-day. I have become more patient and not as isolated as before. My communication skills have improved too.

What do you enjoy most about being a Lead Volunteer?

Certain customers are confiding in me about their mental health. I find it great to be able to assist and provide some support. We all just need an ear to listen…

It’s also great to be able to make decisions too. The team I work with at the shop are very supportive and understanding – they look after me and I feel like a belong to a small family. The team really understand that our shops are not just shops! They’re a place where everyone, including those with mental health problems, can feel safe and listened to.

About Refugee Employment Network

The Refugee Employment Network (REN) unites non-profits, local authorities, and businesses to improve employment access for refugees across the UK. As the only national membership network focused solely on refugee employment, REN works to ensure that all refugees can pursue fulfilling, paid work or self-employment.

What will you be doing?

Join REN as Treasurer and play a key role in guiding the organisation’s strategic direction and financial sustainability. REN’s financial operations, including payroll, are managed externally, so the Treasurer’s input is primarily at a governance and advisory level rather than day-to-day financial administration.

• Advise on REN’s financial strategy, planning, and resource allocation.
• Ensure the Board receives clear and timely financial updates, including Annual Accounts.
• Oversee the preparation of accounts in line with funder and statutory requirements.
• Recommend and monitor effective financial controls, procedures, and policies.
• Lead on the appointment and review of external auditors.
• Collaborate with the CEO to support financial planning and delivery of goals.
• Ensure compliance with funder conditions and financial reporting obligations.
• Provide oversight of financial risks and identify opportunities to strengthen REN’s financial position.
• Lead Board-level discussions on financial matters and contribute to policy on reserves, investments, and financial governance.

Essential:

• Passion for and commitment to Refugee Employment Network’s mission and strategic objectives.
• Experience of successfully dealing with strategic issues, interpreting complex information and business planning.
• Ability to collaborate, support and build relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion.
•  A recognised financial qualification or relevant experience in a strategic finance role.

Desirable:

• Experience serving as a Trustee or Treasurer, or working within the charity sector.

Time Commitment

• Board meetings are held either quarterly or every two months, and typically last 1.5 to 2 hours.
• Meetings are typically in London or virtually, offering flexibility for in-person or remote participation.
• We expect the time commitment to be up to 1.5 days a month. At times this may vary given the time of year.

The Registration Advisory Panel are seeking a Legal Representative for this panel. As a member of the Registration Advisory Panel, you will offer legal insights that ensure compliance with required standards and regulations for the wider psychological workforce. The Registration Advisory Panel are responsible for strategic oversight of the Wider Psychological Workforce Register and reports directly into the Board of Trustees with the following role and remit:

· Provide assurance that competency, safe practice and high standards are maintained for the Wider Psychological Workforce Register and that the register continues to fulfil its objective of public protection.

· Ensure that voluntary register functions are carried out fairly, effectively, proportionately and transparently and in line with the standards set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

· Engage with relevant stakeholders and works in partnership with other bodies where appropriate to ensure registrants continue to meet the required standards for entry and maintenance on the Wider Psychological Workforce Register.

We are looking for someone with a legal background and should demonstrate the following: 

• That they are an accountable professional responsible for own professional actions and adherence to professional codes of practice

How Much Time Will It Take?

Would you like to share your admin skills to support one of our community addiction treatment teams?

This role is an ideal opportunity for those wanting to gain an understanding about community substance misuse support services and those wishing to further their admin skills.

We are looking for individuals with administrative and organisational skills to support us with day to day administration in one of our two SHARP Community Rehabilitation Centres for individuals with alcohol or drug addictions. 

SHARP stands for Self-Help Addiction Recovery Programme  and the two sites, based in Braintree and Wickford, offer an 8-week rehabilitation programme for individuals seeking to remain abstinent from either alcohol or drugs. 

You will provide essential support to both our admin and front line workers with reception duties, transport arrangements, updating files and helping them with general filing, photocopying and practical tasks associated with the running of the programmes.

You will be provided with training and induction into your role and the opportunity to complete additional training including a Level 1 qualification in Substance Misuse Awareness

To be successful in this role you will have good communication and organisational skills, feel confident in using Microsoft Word and Excel Software and excellent communication skills.

A bit about this role

As a charity we can continue to help cats and kittens in need thanks to the donations we receive at fundraising events from generous members of the public. Our fundraising event helpers have the exciting and varied role of helping at local fundraising events - such as cakes sales, barn dances, quiz nights – and everything in between!

Time expectation

This role is really flexible! You could choose to volunteer at one event for a couple of hours or attend multiple fundraising events.

We’ll keep you up to date with upcoming local events where volunteers are needed. You’ll then be able to choose which events you’d like to volunteer at and how many hours you’d like to give. However much time you can give, your contribution will help raise much needed funds to continue the work of Cats Protection.
