The Charity Evaluation Working Group is a community of 300+ charity sector evaluators. Our mission to empower charities, (and other purpose-driven organisations), to create positive change through effective evaluation.
We are looking for passionate individuals to join our board as trustees and chair / co-chairs. This is a unique opportunity to lead our next chapter and strengthen our community.
We’re specifically looking to recruit people who are not only passionate about the use of data and evidence, but bring a wider range of skills to the board, including;
- research and evaluation
- income generation
- comms and marketing
- advocacy and influence
Our trustees are based across the UK, so all of our meetings are online. We’re a small charity, which means that we’re looking for people who are happy to be hands-on.
We would like to maintain the diversity of our board and therefore would particularly like to hear from people from the global majority, lower socioeconomic backgrounds, disabled people and those from other marginalised groups. We’re open to new perspectives and ways of thinking, so you don’t necessarily need to have worked in the third sector, understand evaluation, or have experience of being a trustee before.

Chair of Trustees
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to take on the role of Chair of Trustees and guide a charity supporting women and children.
Position: Chair of Trustees
Location: Remote / Luton / Bedfordshire
Hours: Approx. 4 Board meetings per year plus AGM, quarterly subcommittees, strategy sessions and additional meetings with the CEO and stakeholders

About the role
As Chair of Trustees, you will provide inclusive leadership to the Board, ensuring effective governance and long-term impact for beneficiaries. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and Executive Team, offering support and challenge in equal measure, while acting as a credible ambassador for the charity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic leadership and ensuring the Board operates within the organisation’s objectives.
- Leading governance, trustee development, recruitment and succession planning.
- Acting as an ambassador and spokesperson, building strong stakeholder relationships.
- Chairing Board meetings with impartiality and ensuring sound decision-making.
- Supporting and appraising the Chief Executive, maintaining a strong and collaborative partnerships
About you
You will bring significant leadership experience at Board or senior strategic level, ideally within the charity or public sector. You will have a strong understanding of UK charity governance, with the ability to lead diverse groups effectively and exercise sound judgement.
Key qualities include:
- A commitment to addressing violence against women and girls.
- Proven experience of chairing meetings and driving organisational strategy.
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of charity finance.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A collaborative leadership style with a focus on equity, diversity and inclusion.
This is a voluntary position requiring time, energy and commitment. In return, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s future and making a real difference to the lives of women and children.

Marketing & Content Volunteer
Nina Energy Limited (UK) with operations in Ecuador is building community-owned biorefineries that convert agricultural residues into biochar, clean heat, and carbon credits across the Global South. We’re looking for a mission-driven volunteer to own our LinkedIn Company Page and blog: plan the calendar, write high-quality content, and grow an audience of partners, investors, and talent.
What you will do
Build and run a content calendar (quarterly) aligned to launches, pilots, and partnerships. Publish 2 LinkedIn posts per week (thought leadership, field updates, data visuals, founder POV). Write 1–2 blog posts per month for nina.energy (project stories, explainers, case studies). Translate technical inputs (biochar, heat recovery, CORCs) into clear, credible narratives. Create or brief simple assets (short videos, infographics; Canva/Figma welcome). Track KPIs (impressions, CTR, follower growth, inquiries); run A/B tests and iterate. Maintain a lightweight style guide and an asset library for repeatable quality. Coordinate with UK/Ecuador teams; capture stories from farmers, operators, and partners.

The difference you will make to cats and people
Unfortunately, thousands of cats each year are abandoned or have strayed and rely on charities like Cats Protection for help. Becoming a trap, neuter and return (TNR) volunteer is one way you can make a real difference to cats in your local area. Our TNR volunteers help reduce the number of feral cats by raising awareness of our TNR programmes, setting humane traps to safely capture cats, taking them to local vets to be neutered, and hopefully returning them back to their territory. Local TNR programmes are crucial, as feral and abandoned cats present a huge challenge for communities across the UK.
You can expect us to

What we need from you
You’ll be:
- Trapping cats using humane methods
- Taking cats to local vets to be neutered
- Returning cats to their territory or finding a suitable alternative
The role might also include:
- Regular feeding of feral colonies
- Promoting neutering by building relationships with farmers, land owners and local businesses
- Liaising with vets to promote and arrange neutering
Time expectation
This is a flexible role and the hours will vary depending on the number of cats identified for specific TNR campaigns. Our current TNR volunteers spend about 2 to 3 hours per week in this role which can be shared by more than one volunteer if needed.

This opportunity is a great way to develop new skills and enjoy yourself at the same time.
Our shops generate funds that directly support the whole family, from medical care and therapeutic services for children, to emotional and practical care for families, to sibling support activities & experiences.
Your role will help us continue providing vital care and support to Tŷ Hafan children and their families.
About our Carmarthen Shop:
Our Carmarthen shop is located in a busy walkthrough shopping mall on the edge of Carmarthen town. The shop is well supported with donations and is historically our top performing Lottery shop.
The shop team are always on the lookout for new ways to generate income, including taking part in shopping centre and community events.
Considerations:
Age requirement: 16+
Location: Merlin's Walk, Carmarthen, SA31 3BN
Commitment:Our shops operate Monday-Saturday, 9am-4:45pm and we appreciate any time you can spare, but ideally at least 2 hours per week.

As a community engagement volunteer you and your fellow branch members will create a range of activities to help spread the word about SSAFA within your community. To ensure that that our Armed Forces community know that SSAFA are here to help and that we need the public’s support to continue offering our services.
What you will be doing
This role is diverse and allows for you to focus on the areas that you have skills or interests in. The role has flexibility and can work around your other commitments.

Event Champions
Be the friendly face of SSAFA! Help at events, chat with visitors, sell merchandise, and spread the word about our work.

Promoting SSAFA Services
Help provide a warm, welcoming presence at Veterans Breakfast clubs, cafes or hubs - offering information about SSAFA services and signposting as appropriate.

Deliver engaging talks to organisations and groups, sharing SSAFA’s incredible history and mission.
Community Connectors
Collaborating with the Community Engagement Manager to establish a local network, promote SSAFA's services, and respond to community opportunities such as gardening projects
Fundraising Heroes
Whether it’s rallying local businesses, organising events, or getting creative with unique fundraising ideas, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping SSAFA’s support going strong.
Administrators
Are you detail-oriented and love keeping things organised? Assist with branch and event administration, manage schedules and branch calendars, and ensure everything runs smoothly currently being undertaken.

Cambridge Women’s Aid has been supporting women and children affected by domestic abuse for over 40 years. We are currently searching for new trustees to join our board.
Effective governance is key to the success and sustainability of our organisation. As a trustee, you will be able to use your experience, energy and creativity to shape our approach and help us to achieve our mission. There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ trustee, and you don’t necessarily need previous board experience; we welcome women with a diverse range of backgrounds, skills and life experiences, who can commit and contribute to the success of our work.
At the moment, our Board of Trustees is particularly looking to build expertise in Legal, Finance, HR & Safeguarding. However, we welcome applications from all women with a commitment to our work and are interested in hearing about full range of skills applicants can bring.
As a trustee, you will receive training to carry out your role, have opportunities to represent CWA in the community, and be part of a supportive and welcoming board. Being a trustee gives you the chance to gain experience in strategic planning, develop skills in new areas, and add significant value to a thriving charity.
Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend and minimum of four in person board meetings per year, plus one away day and one Annual General Meeting. Most trustees will get involved in the work of sub-committees, such as the Employment or Finance groups, and will attend around six sub-committee meetings per year. The minimum commitment is 3 years.

Who are we?
The Hardman Trust was established in 1994, with the aim of helping people leaving prison after long
sentences. Our founder, Guy Armstrong, was a prison Chaplain. He saw the challenges facing this
group: homelessness, a lack of workplace skills, stigma, isolation, low confidence, and poverty. A fund
was set up to provide financial assistance to purchase tools and equipment, offering a helping hand
into employment. We now know from experience that this practical approach works. The people the
Hardman Trust has supported over three decades have used this financial support to gain
qualifications, start their own businesses, find employment and a new direction in life. We are now
extending our reach so more people can benefit from our support and sharing our evidence and
insights to help shape a more effective, humane criminal justice system. Achieving this means securing
the right funding, building strong partnerships, and ensuring our resources are used with maximum
efficiency and impact.
We are looking for several new Trustees to join the Hardman Trust Board. If you want to support our
mission, and you feel that you have the commitment and the life or professional experience for the
role, we would love to hear from you. In return, you will have the chance to make a meaningful
difference to those serving long sentences; and you will be part of a passionate and committed team
of staff, trustees and volunteers. We offer support to all new Trustees and if you haven’t been one
before, don’t worry - we will make sure you have access to any training and development you feel you
need.
It is a privilege to be part of the Hardman Trust’s work. It is an incredible organisation making real
change in the criminal justice sector. It is an exciting time to join the charity – we have recently
appointed a new CEO, Annette So and we are looking forward to developing our direction for the
future and fulfilling our vision where everyone can achieve their potential within and beyond prison.
The Trustee role
The Trustees work collectively as a Board. They have ultimate responsibility for governing the
Hardman Trust charity, directing its management, and ensuring it is well-run and operates according to
its purposes. They are legally responsible for the charity's finances, reputation, and compliance with
the law. Each Trustee brings their own lived experience and/or professional skills to support the charity
achieve its aims. Most Trustees also learn new skills during their time on the Board.
We want our Board to look like the world we serve and to have different voices within it. We know
that diverse groups of people make better decisions. We are keen to hear from people who can bring
perspectives or experiences often underrepresented in charity governance and how can help us
progress our vision.
Trustees are not usually involved in the day-to-day running of the charity. However, they work closely
with the Hardman Trust’s dedicated staff team, who are supported by a wider group of volunteers. The
Trustee role as in the majority of charities, is unpaid although legitimate expenses – travel costs for
example – can be claimed.
The Trustees’ key responsibilities
- Provide leadership to the Board in setting the charity’s strategy and priorities
- Oversee a collaborative and effective Board that brings diverse perspectives
- Support the Chief Executive, offering guidance and challenge
- Champion the charity’s mission and values, acting as an Ambassador and building relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, donors and the wider criminal justice sector
- Ensure effective governance and decision making, including chairing quarterly board meetings
- Ensure compliance with the Charity Commission and relevant legislation.

What we are looking for
Experience of leadership, ideally at Board or senior executive level. You don’t have to have been a Chair before, but you do have to have experience of being a Trustee.
- Strong governance knowledge and an understanding of the responsibility of charity trustees
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and able to build relationships effectively
- Strategic thinking with the ability to support and challenge constructively, and an inclusive leadership style
- Someone who will act as an advocate for the charity and be willing to champion the Hardman
- Trust through personal networks, social media and other channels.
- The ability to be responsive and flexible – we are a small charity which sometimes requires the
- Chair to be available at short notice or out of hours to offer support or advice
- Commitment to equality, diversion and inclusion and to improving outcomes for people serving long prison sentences
- Experience of the criminal justice sector, prisons or related fields is desirable
