Job description

We’re seeking new Trustees to become actively involved in the strategic direction, governance and decision making within the Greggs Foundation.

The Greggs Foundation is a charitable organisation aiming to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in communities where Greggs operates across the UK.  Working with a wide network of partners, we offer support and resources to those who can most benefit.

We’ve awarded £4.5m in grants in the last year alone.

We are committed to:

· Addressing poverty, hardship and inequality.

· Ensuring food is at the heart of communities.

· Supporting local community organisations to make a real difference.

Foundation key areas:

· Greggs Breakfast Clubs with a network of Breakfast Clubs run all over England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. From our first club in 1999, we have now grown the network to run over 896 clubs nationwide, helping to feed over 62,000 children daily

· The Hardship Fund is a small grants programme to support individuals and families who suddenly find themselves in difficult financial circumstances. The Hardship Fund is a fast and flexible way to get assistance.

· Greggs in the Community provides core funding to support charitable organisations to really make a difference to the communities they serve in areas across the UK where Greggs trades.

About you

As a Trustee Director you will join a team that is committed to making a difference, who believe that lasting change occurs when communities can grow sustainably from within. We truly enjoy working together and with our partners to achieve this.

As some of our Trustees are reaching their maximum length of service, we are looking to recruit new individuals to join our Board. We also want to strengthen our Board’s experience in some key areas such as the education sector and community leadership. We would especially welcome applications from individuals able to contribute at a strategic level in one or more of the following areas:

· Schools, Academies and other educational settings.

· Community leadership and development.

· Working within the community to help build resilience and sustainable communities.

Previous Board experience is not essential as training and induction will be given. Relevant lived or worked experience, drive and commitment are essential.

We are looking for individuals able to demonstrate an active passion for improving the lives of people in their local communities and a want to make a difference to those less advantaged.

About the role

As a Trustee, you will:

  • Attend four Board meetings a year. Meetings are typically half a day and generally joined in person at Greggs Head Office in Newcastle as this gives the Board an opportunity to meet with the wider Foundation Team, but remote facilities are also available.
  •  Participate in at least one of the Board sub-committees. These meetings are also held quarterly throughout the year and are usually held remotely during the working day and last up to two hours.
  •  Join an annual Trustee Strategy Day or Foundation Conference.  Attendance may entail an evening event and possible overnight stay.
  • Build open and effective relationships with all Trustees and the Foundation team.
  •  Join occasional visits to schools and community hubs supported by the Foundation.

Whilst the role of Trustee is not remunerated, Trustees will be offered reimbursement for any expenses.

Trustees are appointed for a three-year term with a maximum appointment of three terms.

Whether you're an experienced Trustee or considering your first appointment as one, we welcome your interest.

We will consider applications from candidates in locations across the UK. We pride ourselves on our culture, creating an environment which is inclusive. We want everyone to feel welcome and to be able to be themselves, whatever their background, preferences or beliefs.  We understand that diversity makes us stronger.

All applications will be treated in the strictest confidence.
