Could you lead the SSAFA presence at your local military base? Ideally you will already have links to the base; you’ll have some experience of managing people and basic I.T skills. If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

What is a Service Committee Chair?

There are SSAFA committees on many military bases in the UK and overseas. Each one has a Chairperson to oversee all aspects of the committee. Reporting to the Regional Chair, you will ensure that the committee is running in line with SSAFA’s policies to keep clients and volunteers safe; that all services provided are appropriate and effective and that the committee is financially sound. You will be the public face of SSAFA on site.

Why do we need you?

We’ve been supporting the Armed Forces community for more than 130 years. In recognition of their service to the Nation we aim to provide financial, practical and emotional support when it’s needed most. To do this we need volunteers who can represent SSAFA on the base and beyond, ensure that everyone knows about SSAFA services and keep things running smoothly behind the scenes.

When would you be needed and where would you be based?

This role is about leadership, networking, coordination, and administration. Many volunteers can carry out this role from home and from their place of work.

The role would suit someone looking to offer a regular time commitment. You would need to organise and attend a minimum of four meetings each year. The Chair is an Office Bearer and in addition to voting rights, holds the casting vote.

What would you be doing?

• Providing support to all SSAFA Service Committee volunteers

• Holding regular committee meetings, at least four per year

• Ensuring that all requests for grants are reviewed by the committee in line with the committee’s Terms of Reference

• Working with the Community Volunteer Coordinator to oversee all SSAFA community volunteering, ensuring beneficiaries get support that is effective and timely

• Monitoring volunteer numbers against the demand for support and recruiting new volunteers as needed

• Building positive relationships with the senior management team on the base and the local SSAFA branch working in the wider community

• Providing reports and information to the local SSAFA branch and to SSAFA’s Central Office

• Overseeing an annual plan and fundraising programme to meet the locally identified needs

• Being a positive ambassador for SSAFA remembering that anyone you meet could be a potential client, volunteer, or fundraiser

• Working with Central Office staff to ensure all volunteers complete all mandatory tasks in line with the training and vetting requirements of their role.

What are we looking for?

Since the temporary closure of our venue due to fire and water damage, we have been working hard to continue our mission with our 'out and about' activity as well as focussing on reimagining our strategic plan (Plan 2030) and governance.

We are now on the cusp of reopening our iconic Bristol venue, and as we do, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to our strategy and help us create a place where everyone is included, curious and inspired by science.

What is a trustee?​

Trustees have overall control of a charity and are responsible for making sure it’s doing what it was set up to do. They may be known by other titles, such as:

Directors, board members, governors, committee members

Whatever they are called, trustees are the people who work with our experienced leadership team to provide support, encouragement, challenge when needed and help to decide how the charity is run. Being a trustee means making decisions that will impact on people’s lives. Depending on what the charity does, you will be making a difference to your local community or to society as a whole.

Trustees use their skills and experience to support their charities, helping them achieve their aims. Trustees also often learn new skills during their time on the board.

What will you do in this role?​

As a trustee you will provide advice, knowledge and support to the leadership team at We The Curious.

With the steer of the Chair, the board of trustees ensures we pursue our purpose responsibly, are compliant with our governing documents, charity law and other relevant legislation. The board will review and advise on best practice and appropriate policies and procedures and uphold excellent governance.

As a trustee you will:​

All Trustees should use their specific skills, knowledge or experience to help the Board of Trustees reach informed decisions in the best interest of We The Curious.

This will involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussion and providing guidance as requested by the Board on new initiatives or other issues relevant to the area of our work in which the trustee has expertise.

Time commitment

​_We hold quarterly board meetings, typically from 4pm to 7pm and one strategy away day per year. Trustees are expected to attend and contribute to all meetings either in person or by joining virtually.

_ Board Meetings are located at the We The Curious offices within the science centre in central Bristol, and once a year at another location around the City.

_ You will also be asked to take part in one of our subcommittee meetings which take place online, at least once per quarter. There are currently sub-committees for Finance & Risk Assurance and Purpose Strategy.

_ You may also be called upon for advice or assistance by the leadership team or to attend occasional events.

​This is a voluntary role. Reasonable travel expenses will be covered. Food is provided at the quarterly Board meetings and strategy away days.

Terms of appointment​

_Trustees are appointed to an initial three-year term of service (including a 12-month probationary period).

_Trustees can serve a maximum of six years with a reappointment after the first term of three years unless the trustee holds an office, such as Chair or Deputy Chair, in which case they would be eligible for a further three-year term. The maximum term of office is nine years.

If you join the board, you will have an induction and onboarding experience to support you with your role and get you connected with the rest of the organisation.

If you are a first-time trustee or want a refresher, we will provide you with training on good governance and other topics related to your role. We will also provide you with mentorship from other members of the board.

We are looking for a team player, who is able to support our board to grow the charity over the next few years. Our aim is to break down barriers which prevent people accessing the arts – as well as enriching our community with our workshops, community events and gallery space. We are a passionate and dedicated team in need of support embedding new procedures, strategies and development plans to help the charity grow. We welcome hand-on trustees who wish to come and help at workshops and events, but this is not expected or a requirement of the role.

Tannery Arts is entering an exciting stage of its journey having recently moved into new premises in the heart of Bermondsey, London; we are looking for new Trustees with the right skills, experience and enthusiasm to join our Board. Our Trustees play a vital role in ensuring Tannery Arts achieves its vision. Introduction to the Governance, Secretariat & Performance Reporting Lead Role

As the lead of the Governance, Secretariat & Performance Reporting team, you'll be like the conductor of an orchestra, making sure every part of our charity hits the right notes at the right time. Your work helps us stay true to our mission, making sure we're doing things the right way and always getting better. You'll work closely with the folks who guide Barawak—our trustees and advisors—and you'll help our programme and verticals leaders shine by tracking how well their services are doing and giving them the information they need to make smart decisions.

Keep Us on Track: You'll be organising all the important meetings for our trustees and advisors, making agendas, and keeping actions and decisions logs, so we never miss a beat. You’ll make sure that everything we do follows our rules and the law.

Watch Our Progress: You'll keep an eye on our goals, collecting info on how many people we're helping, how our events are going, and how we're managing our money. Then you’ll put this all into monthly and annual reports that help us understand if we're on the right path. 

Help Us Improve: You'll present feedback from the people we serve and our team, gathered by the programme and vertical leads, to find ways we can do better. You're all about using what we learn to make sure Barawak keeps growing stronger and helping more people.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Governance and Compliance Oversight: Ensure that all activities within Barawak adhere to the highest standards of governance and compliance, as set by our trustees and in accordance with relevant regulations and laws. Develop and maintain a comprehensive set of policies and procedures that are the foundation of our operational excellence.

2. Secretariat Functions: Act as the primary point of contact for trustees and advisors, managing communications, preparing meeting agendas, and ensuring the accurate recording of actions and decisions. Your meticulous attention to detail and planning will ensure the smooth running of board meetings and the timely dissemination of information.

3. Performance Reporting: Lead the development and implementation of a robust performance reporting framework. You will work closely on behalf of the trustees, with the advisors, programme and vertical leads to establish and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), providing insights and reports that drive strategic decisions and demonstrate our impact to stakeholders and the community we serve.

4. Cross-functional Coordination: Facilitate and report on the monthly programme reviews with the Board of Trustees, quarterly advisory meetings, and annual general meetings. Your role involves supporting the programme and verticals leads to synthesize information from the services and verticals to provide a cohesive picture of Barawak's progress and challenges.

5. Continuous Improvement: Champion the use of feedback mechanisms, including surveys and community input, to refine our programmes and initiatives. You will play a critical role in reviewing and adapting our strategies based on performance data, ensuring continuous improvement in our pursuit of excellence.

Southend Lifeboat Station has a busy and very active fundraising team who work closely with the lifeboat crew and operational teams to fundraise to support the vital work carried out on the coast around Southend. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm, drive and ideally experience in leading a team to take on the vital Chair role, and to drive income forwards. 

You will act as the key contact for the team, working with central RNLI teams to help to develop the group. This is an inclusive, highly successful and welcoming team who really do make a difference, with this role being absolutely vital in helping sustain and grow activity in and around Southend. 

Ideally you'll have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to motivate and lead and be confident with public speaking. We would like the role to be a fixed term post for 3 years, but are open to flexibility on this depending on the candidate.

Evolve Counselling is a long-established charitable social enterprise, providing low cost, affordable or funded mental health counselling to adults in mainly Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. Our counselling community is made up of 50 – 60 qualified self-employed practitioners, working part-time. We deliver talking therapies to adults – online and in person. Our service delivers around 500 counselling sessions per month to a broad range of individuals, many of whom would not otherwise be able to access counselling support. Evolve also provides supervision, reflective practice, critical incident support, and mental health awareness and related training, to organisations and businesses large and small.

Our Trustee Board is currently drawn from the counselling and therapies community, plus commercial and other charity backgrounds. Trustees wanted for Nantgarw China Works Museum

Nantgarw China Works is home to the finest porcelain ever produced. It was established in 1813 and produced porcelain that has achieved international fame before producing earthenware for daily use until 1920. The site was rescued from total decay in 1990 but many of the Scheduled historic structures remain in urgent need of care. Today the China Works is a museum displaying the history of the porcelain and pottery produced at the site, a working pottery where three ceramicists are based (one of whom produces porcelain items from the rediscovered recipe of 1813), and a major teaching institution running some 500 workshop sessions in heritage crafts. The site is a popular venue for local groups and societies as well as an increasing number of coach tours.

Since 2007 the Museum has been operated by a charitable trust which determines the strategic directions for its development. It is staffed by volunteers who carry out a wide range of duties under the oversight of our Strategic Development Manager. After considerable growth over the past decade, we are now focussed on the steps necessary for expansion and sustainability. We are currently seeking to achieve Accredited Museum status and in line with our vision and the conclusions of a recent Options Appraisal exercise are working on developing a multi-million-pound application to ‘transform where the world’s finest porcelain was made into a vibrant centre for ceramic history and contemporary innovation.’

At this exciting time in our history, we would welcome applications to join the existing seven members of the Trustee board. Trustees are unpaid and meet formally six times a year but are expected to develop a close relationship with the site and help in any way they can. Working together, Trustees are expected to:

Fe’i sefydlwyd ym 1813 a chynhyrchodd borslen sydd wedi ennill bri rhyngwladol cyn cynhyrchu llestri pridd at ddefnydd bob dydd tan 1920. Achubwyd y safle rhag dadfeiliad llwyr ym 1990, ond mae llawer o’r strwythurau hanesyddol Rhestredig yn parhau i fod angen gofal brys. Heddiw, mae’r Crochendy yn amgueddfa sy’n arddangos hanes y porslen a’r crochenwaith a gynhyrchwyd ar y safle. Mae hefyd yn grochendy gweithredol lle mae tri seramegydd wedi’u lleoli (y mae un ohonyn nhw’n cynhyrchu eitemau porslen o hen rysáit 1813 a ail-ddarganfuwyd), a sefydliad addysgu mawr sy’n rhedeg 500 o sesiynau gweithdy mewn crefftau treftadaeth. Ers 2007 mae’r Amgueddfa wedi’i gweithredu gan ymddiriedolaeth elusennol sy’n penderfynu’r cyfeiriad strategol ar gyfer ei datblygiad. Mae’n cael ei staffio gan wirfoddolwyr sy’n cyflawni ystod eang o ddyletswyddau dan arolygiaeth ein Rheolwr Datblygu Strategol. Ar ôl twf sylweddol dros y degawd diwethaf, rydym bellach yn canolbwyntio ar y camau angenrheidiol ar gyfer ehangu a chynaliadwyedd.
