Our partner is an independent, non-profit organisation working in eastern and central Africa to bring local knowledge to bear on social, political and economic development, through research, education, and public information.

They are looking to appoint a Treasurer, based in the UK, who is interested in the mission and work of the organisation, is committed to good governance, and who understands and accepts the legal duties and responsibilities of being a trustee of a charitable organisation.

They are seeking a qualified accountant with a minimum of five years' experience working in financial and management accounting, including managing complex budgets, as well as experience of working with institutional donors in the charity sector.

The Board meets four times a year for up to three hours each meeting. Three meetings will be online with a fourth in-person meeting in East Africa. Trustees may occasionally be asked to provide additional advice and support to staff as required.

Men Who Talk is a UK registered charity, running weekly online peer-to-peer support groups for men aged 18+ across the UK. The groups take places between 7:00 - 8:30pm during week nights.

Our groups are supportive spaces for men aged 18+ to come and talk openly about what's on their mind. All groups are free to attend and follow the evidence based model of peer support. 

Volunteers are required to be online from 6:45pm to 8:45pm, and are required to facilitate around 1 group per month. Volunteers are asked to commit to an a minimum of 6 months of volunteering in the initial stage. 

All groups are facilitated by 2 facilitators, and follow a semi-structured pattern.

We are looking for passionate men with some experience of groups facilitating or working in mental health settings to come join us as facilitators. Experience in using online platforms such as zoom is essential. 

A degree in psychology is preferred but not an essential requirement.

We are seeking new members of the Ministries Committee to start 1 September 2024, initially for a term of three years, renewable for a further 3 years if desired.

This is a well-established committee which will report to the new Connexional Council, which from September 2024 will be the trustee body of the Methodist Church in Great Britain. The Committee is charged with responsibility to keep in constant review the life of the Methodist Church as it relates to Ministries, to reflect strategically and review ministries related work that will enable the work of the Church to be more effective, and to review the formational and support needs of those who exercise ministry on behalf of the Church.  Working collaboratively with other committee members and with the Mission Committee and Resourcing Committee, you will bring a range of circuit experiences or other experiences of the Methodist Church to the work of the Ministries Committee.

Expressions of interest are invited from both lay and ordained members of the Methodist Church in Britain. You are encouraged to apply if you feel that overall your skills and experience meet the person specification requirements. You will have some experience of serving on a church body and some experience or interest in cross-cultural ministry, stationing or training.

About The Role
If you enjoy chatting on the phone and listening to others, then we’d love to hear from you!
Our Companion Call Volunteers help to reduce the loneliness often experienced by people affected by dementia. Through their contact and conversations, people affected by dementia can feel less socially isolated and better connected.
You’ll telephone people living with dementia or their carers, on a regular basis (usually weekly), and chat with them about the things they are interested in and want to talk about. You’ll chat with the same people (ideally at least two) each time and provide brief feedback on your calls via an online form. You’ll not be providing advice or guidance in this role and you don’t need to have knowledge of dementia; it’s all about simply having an easy social conversation with someone.

Many Tears Animal Rescue (MTAR) was set up in 2004 by Sylvia and Bill Van Atta in Carmarthenshire, South Wales. The organisation, originally a not-for-profit company, became a registered charity (No: 1192227) in 2020. Whilst we primarily take in and rehome ex-breeding dogs who are no longer required, those on "death row" in the pounds and those whose owners are no longer able to keep them, our doors are open to any animal needing our help and protection, hence if you visit the centre, you may also see a few cats and the odd horse and donkey.

With the help of our staff, and wide network of fosterers and other volunteers, we provide a safe and loving environment to help all our dogs adapt and find permanent, loving new homes. All potential adopters are interviewed and homes vetted and we do our utmost to find the right home for each dog. The rescue has grown considerably since it first opened and now homes in excess of 3,000 dogs a year.

MTAR provides all veterinary care and behavioural rehabilitation needed to deliver our Mission – to offer a safe haven for any animal in need, to treat them with respect and dignity, to love and care for them until the ideal home is found for them.

MTAR’s Board of Trustees currently consists of 5 Trustees and we are currently looking to welcome two more members into our existing team. We would particularly like to receive expressions of interest from people with the following skills sets:

Context and purpose

• Downright Excellent (DEx) is a small charity committed to enabling children with Down syndrome to maximise their potential. We deliver a range of specialist interventions and support to children with Down syndrome and their families.

· The Trustee – Secretary will act as ‘company secretary’ for the Board.

· The skills, experience and expertise of the Trustee-Secretary will help us ensure that we are delivering best practice in terms of board administration and wider governance of DEx

· A specific background in charity governance or having been a secretary before is not necessary, but a commitment to learning and development in the area is.

Main responsibilities

· Act as secretary to the Board – working closely with the Chair and Chief Executive to:

o Coordinate Board meetings

o Set Board meeting agendas

• Bring leadership and drive ensuring the development of the overall governance of Dex’s fundraising activities
• Define, design, and implement a Fundraising strategy
• Working with the other trustees and our volunteers, the Trustee – Fundraising lead will take a lead role in setting an effective fundraising strategy for DEx. You’ll work particularly closely with the lead trustee for Digital Fundraising.

· Provide thought leadership on DEx’s fundraising and help build and implement this vision.

Our trustees are a collective body, with equal responsibility for the governance of our organisation. The following are the expectations of all trustees, plus for this role, a strategic and long-term focus on the organisations’ finances and financial management. The Treasurer works closely with the Chairman, our Chief Operating Officer and the Finance Manager, as well as leading liaison with the External Examiner.

General duties of all trustees 

• Ensuring that our organisation pursues its stated objects (its purposes), as defined in our Articles of Association, by developing and agreeing a long-term strategy.
• Ensuring that our organisation complies with its charitable obligations, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulation.
• Ensuring that our organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its charitable objects for the benefit of the public.
• Ensuring that our organisation defines its goals and evaluates performance against agreed targets. 
• Safeguarding the good name and values of our organisation, our people and our beneficiaries.
• Ensuring the effective and efficient administration of our organisation, including having appropriate policies and procedures in place.
• Ensuring the financial stability of our organisation. 
• Protecting and managing the property of our charity and ensuring the proper investment of the charity’s funds.
• Having clarity on the difference between strategic governance functions for trustees and operational management functions for employees. 
• Following proper and formal arrangements for the appointment, supervision, support, appraisal and remuneration of our employees. 
• Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship. 

In addition to these duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. This will involve scrutinising Board papers, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives, and other issues in which you may have particular expertise. 

Specific duties of our Treasurer 

• Monitoring the financial standing of the charity and reporting to the Board about cash-flow forecasting, income streams, out-going expenses and the overarching strategic management of the organisation’s financial resources. 
• Overseeing planning/budgeting processes in participation with the Board.
• Advising on the financial implications of the charity’s strategic plans and overseeing the charity’s financial risk-management process. 
• Leading in the development and implementation of financial reserves, cost management and investment policies. 
• Liaising with the External Examiner, in particular for the end-of-year Examination. 
• Advising the Board on appointment and review of the External Examiner on an annual basis, reporting on financial health to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals.
• Guiding and advising fellow trustees to present, and asking Members to formally approve, the Trustees’ Annual Report and Examined Accounts. 
• Ensuring that the organisation’s Annual Accounts are submitted to all relevant regulators in a timely fashion. 
• Explaining financial technicalities of Management and Annual Accounts in plain language which is fully understood by all trustees. Working with the Finance Manager, preparing and producing Management Accounts in a timely manner for Board meetings.
• Acting as one of the people authorised to access online banking. 

It is recognised that this role is voluntary and that our employees and other trustees will provide support, assistance and resources as are available to enable you to utilise your best endeavours to carry out these duties within those resources. Here is some of what we would expect from our Treasurer. We know that you may also need training and support from employees, from other trustees and from external organisations, and that that will be forthcoming, as necessary, to build on any area. 

• Experience and knowledge of managing finances. 
• A recognised financial and/or accounting qualification would be highly beneficial but is not a prerequisite. Experience and knowledge of current practice relevant to charities or SME finance would be highly useful but not a prerequisite. 
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly, especially to other trustees whose in-depth financial knowledge may be less than yours.
• Strategic vision; good, independent judgement; ability to think creatively, tempered by pragmatism and reality. 
• Skills to analyse proposals, examine their strategic financial consequences and make concise recommendations as part of the trustees’ team. 
• Ability to cooperatively work with the team of trustees, bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making. 
•  Skills and ability to listen, even to dissenting views. 
• Willingness to speak your mind and to challenge other trustees and employees with good intent; able to make unpopular recommendations to the Board, if necessary. 
• Commitment to the organisation; willingness and ability to devote the necessary time & effort, and maintain that for a period of office of a minimum of three years. 
• Understanding of the needs of our beneficiaries is desirable; an empathy with them is important. 
• Clear commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, valuing differences to make better decisions and deliver better outcomes. 
• Experience of committee work, with an understanding of the role of the Treasurer in effective (charity or corporate) governance, would be highly-valued. 
• Willingness to be available to employees and volunteers with financial responsibilities on a scheduled or ad-hoc basis to provide advice and answer enquiries. 
• Having appropriate personal and professional contacts & networks, with willingness to draw on those as needed would be beneficial.

Location & time commitment 

The Board meets four times per annum, three remotely and one in-person meeting in central London. Much of your role can be carried out online and by phone/video. It should be noted that the focus of this role is strategic and you will not be managing the organisation on a day-to-day basis; however, regular contact and liaison with our Chairman, the Chief Operating Officer and the Finance Manager is expected. This is a voluntary position, with reasonable reimbursement of agreed expenses, if needed.

· The trustee with safeguarding expertise will be the main contact on the board for matters relating to child protection and safeguarding.

· You’ll be supported by our team who manage day to day safeguarding issues, with training provided whether it is new to you or you come from a safeguarding background.  

· The skills, experience and expertise of the safeguarding trustee will help us ensure that we have the right polices, processes and practices in place.

Main responsibilities

· Be the point of contact on the trustee board for safeguarding matters, supported by our small safeguarding team

Are you seeking to use your organisational and administrative skills to help provide a better future for disadvantaged children? We’re looking for a new secretary to assist with the running of our small but highly effective charity which provides impoverished children from North East Ghana with the uniform and equipment needed for primary school.

You'll be responsible for the smooth and efficient running of General Meetings, meetings of the Executive Committee and any sub-committees; providing assistance and support to the chair of the board of trustees you'll also be responsible for monitoring the charities legal responsibilities and ensuring that trustees carry out all actions assigned to them by Executive Committee.

• The Secretary to the Executive Committee is also responsible for monitoring the charities legal responsibilities and ensuring that trustees carry out all actions assigned to them by Executive Committee.

The Vice Chairs’ role is to support the Chair in executing their duties. The Vice Chair continues to fulfil all those duties assumed when he/she became a trustee as outlined in the document The Trustee Board, Role and Responsibilities. The Vice Chair will assume the role of Chair in the absence of the chair. To this end, their duties are similar in that the Vice Chair will be expected to provide leadership in giving firm strategic direction to the charity and will be responsible for ensuring that the board meets regularly, keeps transparent records, agrees priorities, and ensures that the charity’s income sources, and expenditure allow it to meet its charitable aims. This includes:

• Ensuring the Chair has all information he/she requires in order to carry out their role to the best of their ability.
•  The Vice Chair will discuss and offer his/her advice to the Chair based on her understandingof the charity’s’ vision, values, mission, strategy and policy when the documents are due to be reviewed. 
• The Vice Chair may be, on occasion expected to represent the Chair at external functions and events. The Vice Chair must always act in the best interest of the charity.
• The Vice Chair will act as a point of contact for the trustees and others between formal meetings when the chair is unavailable. 
• The Vice Chair will ensure that regular meetings are held between the Chair and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to discuss any managerial issues and strategy. 
• The Vice Chair must remain abreast of the laws and regulations relating to the charity’s’ activities. 
• The Vice Chair will support the Chair in monitoring the financial stability of the charity.
