�� Help us shape Primary Citizenship at Oak 

At Oak, we are developing a brand-new Primary Citizenship curriculum. As this is an emerging area within primary education, we are excited to build it thoughtfully, collaboratively and with children and teachers at its heart.

We are looking for volunteers to join our Citizenship Subject Experts and help shape this new offer from the ground up.

We warmly welcome applications from:

• �� Primary teachers with experience in personal development, RSHE or related areas

• �� Secondary Citizenship teachers who would like to contribute to the development of a meaningful Citizenship curriculum

• �� Curriculum specialists and education professionals with relevant expertise

��About the role

This voluntary role will begin in March 2026 and onwards

As a member of the Citizenship Subject Expert Group, you will help shape every aspect of our new curriculum offer, from reviewing curriculum sequencing to providing feedback on lesson materials to supporting ongoing refinement as the curriculum develops.

Each group includes representatives from established organisations and experts linked to curriculum development and impact. Through our open, national application process, we are seeking a diverse range of classroom teachers, curriculum specialists and subject experts to ensure a broad range of voices are represented.

��️Commitments 

• Attend three 60-minute virtual meetings per year (approximately one per term), held via Zoom

• Review materials in advance of meetings and prepare written feedback where required

• Be available, where possible, to offer additional expertise outside of meetings as and when required

✏️ Knowledge, skills and experience 

We welcome applications from both classroom-based and non-classroom-based professionals.

Current Classroom teachers

• Fully achieved QTS

• Subject leadership experience

• Experience teaching Citizenship, Personal Development, RSHE or closely related areas (in either a primary or secondary setting)

Non-classroom professionals

• At least three years’ experience working in an education organisation closely connected to schools

• Currently working in a role focused on Citizenship, Personal Development or a closely related field

All applicants must demonstrate:

• Deep knowledge of Citizenship and/or Personal Development, and how these are effectively taught

• Strong understanding of curriculum development, particularly within Citizenship or Personal Development

• The ability to provide thoughtful, precise and evidence-informed feedback

• A commitment to inclusion, rigour and high expectations for all pupils

⏳ Duration 

This role is currently for the duration of our work on implementing the new Programmes of Study.  However, it may be extended depending on the specific needs of the subject.

��The application process 

This is an open application process. Anyone who meets the required knowledge, skills and experience is encouraged to apply. We are committed to ensuring our Subject Expert volunteers reflect a wide range of perspectives from across the sector.

To ensure applicants are selected based solely on expertise, we use a blind application process to reduce bias.

• You will answer role-specific questions focused on your subject knowledge and curriculum expertise.

• Your responses will be anonymised and randomised before being reviewed by a panel.

• The review panel includes professionals with teaching, education research and curriculum design expertise.

Successful applicants will be invited to a 30-minute follow-up conversation to confirm suitability for the role and to provide an opportunity to ask any questions.
