We are looking for volunteers to support the Scarborough Community Furniture Store with day-to-day customer service, including helping with inquiries, assisting shoppers and helping collect donations.

We are currently looking for volunteers to assist on a Monday, Friday and Saturday. This is a flexible role designed to meet you where you're at and you will be joining a supportive charity team.

Responsibilities of the Role:

• Greeting customers in a friendly, helpful manner, offering support and assistance to customers in store and providing information about our services
• Operating the till when customers purchase items
• Assisting when people are dropping off donated items

Skills Required:

• You will need to be comfortable and prepared to interact with a wide range of customers
• Being a positive, helpful, and polite representative of the store to customers
• You do not need any specific skills, all training will be provided

Overview

Are you practical, hands-on and enjoy getting stuck in?

Our Scarborough Community Furniture Store receives large amounts of donated furniture, which needs moving on a daily basis, including loading and unloading our delivery vans and arranging the store, as well as small scale furniture assembly and repair. We are looking for volunteers in our stores to support these operations.

We are currently looking for warehouse volunteers to assist on a Monday, Friday and Saturday. This is a flexible role designed to meet you where you're at and you will be joining a supportive charity team.

Responsibilities of the Role:

• Moving furniture around our stores and warehouse
• Unloading & loading vans
• Cleaning and preparing donated furniture to be sold
• Furniture assembly (usually beds)
• Minor repairs where needed (supervised and supported)
• Interacting with customers in the store in a positive, polite and helpful manner

Skills required:

• You will need to communicate well with the rest of the store team
• Being a positive, polite, and helpful representative of the store to customers, ready to help them out when needed
• You need to be able to lift and move furniture - although we will never ask you to lift anything you are uncomfortable with and will provide full manual handling training
• If you have skills in carpentry, furniture repair and assembly, this is a bonus, but not a requirement of the role.

Volunteer: “I wanted to volunteer to get some work experience and be part of a team. I’ve learnt the correct way to handle furniture, how to take a bed apart, and how to put a sofa together. I’ve also improved my teamwork skills, have better communication skills, and learnt that there are several ways to do different things”.

We are currently looking for van support volunteers to assist on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This is a flexible role designed to meet you where you're at and you will be joining a supportive charity team.

Responsibilities of the Role:

• Assisting the driving team with their deliveries and collections
• Supporting a driver on their route in their van
• Using the phone to communicate with customers about when you will be arriving
• Loading and unloading furniture into vans at the store and at customer’s home
• Being an ambassador for our organisation, by giving polite, helpful and friendly service to the customers you are visiting

Skills required:

• You will need to undergo a DBS check for this role as you will be entering customer homes
• You will need to communicate well with the rest of the driver team
• You need to be able to lift and move furniture - although we will never ask you to lift anything you are uncomfortable with and will provide full manual handling training
• You will need to be a positive, helpful and friendly representative of Community Stores as you interact with the local community
• There is no need to have a driving license for this role

We are searching for an enthusiastic, hard working volunteer to take on President’s responsibility and oversee the chapter in LONDON. They will run the chapter and ultimately be responsible for activities carried out by committee members and volunteers. The President must coordinate with their committee to ensure that all of the needs of the charity are met and the law, constitution and handbook are not broken.

The VP's role is to aid the president with all of their responsibilities in overseeing the chapter. VP might help run the chapter and become responsible for some activities. Helping to coordinate their committee to ensure that all of the needs of the charity are met and the law, constitution and handbook are not broken.

This role is important in order to have a smooth running chapter, so that the magic of our visits are at their full potential! We are searching for a enthusiastic and hard working volunteer to support the President in London!

We are searching for an enthusiastic, hard working volunteer to take on President’s responsibility and oversee the chapter in EXETER. They will run the chapter and ultimately be responsible for activities carried out by committee members and volunteers. The Chapter Secretary ensures the smooth running of the local chapter by managing communication, meetings, and documentation. The Secretary is responsible for organising chapter meetings, prepare agendas, take structured minutes, and upload them to Onedrive, ensuring they are shared with all attendees. In addition the Secretary also help coordinate volunteer socials and support chapter activities.

The Chapter Secretary should have strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to coordinate meetings, manage calendars, and keep accurate records. Attention to detail, good communication skills and time management are essential in addition to being reliable, proactive and collaborative..

Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, OneDrive.

Chair of Trustees

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic leader to take on the role of Chair of Trustees and guide a charity supporting women and children.

Position: Chair of Trustees
Location: Remote / Luton / Bedfordshire
Hours: Approx. 4 Board meetings per year plus AGM, quarterly subcommittees, strategy sessions and additional meetings with the CEO and stakeholders
Salary: Voluntary (reasonable expenses reimbursed)

About the role

As Chair of Trustees, you will provide inclusive leadership to the Board, ensuring effective governance and long-term impact for beneficiaries. You will work closely with the Chief Executive and Executive Team, offering support and challenge in equal measure, while acting as a credible ambassador for the charity.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing strategic leadership and ensuring the Board operates within the organisation’s objectives.
• Leading governance, trustee development, recruitment and succession planning.
• Acting as an ambassador and spokesperson, building strong stakeholder relationships.
• Chairing Board meetings with impartiality and ensuring sound decision-making.
• Supporting and appraising the Chief Executive, maintaining a strong and collaborative partnerships

About you

You will bring significant leadership experience at Board or senior strategic level, ideally within the charity or public sector. You will have a strong understanding of UK charity governance, with the ability to lead diverse groups effectively and exercise sound judgement.

Why do we need your help?

Food banks provide three-day emergency food parcels for people in crisis, working in partnership with organisations across the community. Drivers play a fundamental role in the running of the food bank, collecting food donations from a variety of locations such as supermarkets or churches across the local area as well as distributing the sorted donations from the warehouse to the local food bank centres. You will be given all the required training and provided with ongoing support and development opportunities. You will also have a main contact at the food bank throughout your time volunteering with us.

What will you be doing?

• Collecting food donations from collection points such as supermarkets, schools and churches within Brent

• Coordinating with the warehouse manager and supermarket community champions

• Delivering the food donations to the warehouse, located in Willesden

• Transporting sorted food from the warehouse across two food banks within Brent

• Regular loading and unloading of vehicles, helping your driver buddy

• Regular driving across the local area

The skills you need:

• Clean and current driving licence

• Physically strong and capable of carrying heavy boxes of canned foods

• Experienced and confident driver, you will be driving a small van around Brent

• Adaptable and flexible, sometimes we need to change your driving route or times

• Personable and committed, you will be the representatives of Brent Foodbank amongst our supermarket community

• You will need to follow the driving policy of the food bank

• You should enjoy being part of a volunteer team

• Have an eye for detail and be able to solve problems

• If you can’t drive but enjoy being out on the road, you can also be a driver buddy!

We get food from industry surpluses that might otherwise become waste and we use it to put food in the homes of people in need. Every day we collect food or have it delivered into our warehouse at Stoke.

What we do really makes a difference to thousands of families, but we couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers. 

If you are keen to work with great people whose common goal is to help support local communities, then we would love to welcome you into our team of volunteers.

You’d need to be over 25 with a full, clean UK driving licence, with various shifts Monday to Friday starting from 7am.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must be resident in the UK and living in Stoke, or within easy commuting distance of our base, in order to volunteer with us. We are unable to offer sponsorship for overseas applicants.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us in our Stoke warehouse. The warehouse is where the food arrives, and is sorted before it arrives at the hub. It is a busy environment, and you’d be working alongside the TBBT team. To volunteer for the warehouse, you would need to be 18 years old or older.

Volunteering at the warehouse would include:

• Packing bags for the hubs.
• Organising stock, and ensuring food is stored correctly and at the right temperature.
• Keeping the warehouse tidy, and helping with recycling.
• Helping to load the vans.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
You must be resident in the UK and living in Stoke, or within easy commuting distance of our base, in order to volunteer with us. We are unable to offer sponsorship for overseas applicants.
