What is the purpose of this role?
Supporting staff to manage the stockroom at the shop in Sutton in Ashfield and the Ransom Wood storage unit. On an occasional basis, to help with collections and deliveries, and transfer of stock between our shops in Sutton in Ashfield and West Bridgford.
What impact does this role have?
This role helps the shop to run efficiently and effectively, to be able to sell products for Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, which in turn, can be used to allow Age UK Notts to continue to run effective services for older people.
What activities might you be involved in?
- Supporting staff to manage the stock room within the Sutton shop – keeping racking clean and tidy, organising space to maintain good health and safety systems.
- Accepting donations from supporters that visit the shop and encouraging those who are taxpayers to sign up to Gift Aid to increase the value of the donation when sold by 25%.
- Processing items at Ransom Wood storage unit when there is no room to deposit them straight into the shop.
- Travelling with the driver to pick up donated items (furniture, white goods, bric-a-brac, clothing, or a mix of all 4)
- Completing deliveries with the driver to customers’ homes
- Volunteering in line with the Charity’s policies and procedures and adhering to the Volunteer Code of Conduct
What are we looking for?
- The physical ability to lift and move furniture and other stock so applicants should be physically fit and be able to complete these tasks
- A willingness to complete a variety of tasks both in the shop and at the Ransom Wood storage unit.
- An individual who gets on well with people to facilitate good customer service

When would you be needed to volunteer?
We are looking for individuals who can volunteer either every Wednesday and/or Saturday between 9.30am and 4.30pm

Saturday Shop Assistant Volunteer needed! - Eastbourne

The role
We are looking for Saturday Shop Assistant volunteers to support our Eastbourne shop team. The best thing about this is that you can make this role entirely your own: from serving customers at the till, to taking care of bookings, mending items that need a bit of love or bringing your incredible knowledge and passion to our Book section, there is always something to do on the shopfloor!
You will join a wonderful team made of a Shop Manager, Assistant Manager, van driver and van assistants as well as some volunteers. Free hot beverage and biscuits always available on site as well as bi-annual shop team events!
Shift patterns
We are looking for support on Mondays as a priority but would be grateful to receive help anytime. The shift pattern is either a half day (morning shift: 8.30am – 12pm or afternoon shit: 12pm – 4.30pm) or a full day (8.30am – 4.30pm).

We recently started providing free sanitary products in all 3 of our stores in a bid to end Period Poverty. This is an exciting time to join our charity as we are also about to open a Community Shed in our Hailsham store to provide the local community with a third space, where people can meet, hang out and upcycle furniture.

About the opportunity
A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join the Smart Works Greater Manchester Board of Trustees.
The Corporate Relationships Trustee will support in developing the corporate supporter base across the city region, with the aim of increasing the funding received from organisations. This will involve supporting the Fundraising and Partnerships Manager to shape the our corporate partner “offer”, engaging with corporate supporters, and building the narrative of our social value proposition.
Securing corporate funding / financial donations as an income stream will enable the Charity to continue delivering the Smart Works service across Greater Manchester, helping women to secure employment and gain financial independence. The corporate partner offering will include securing formal, multi-year Charity Partner status for Smart Works Greater Manchester across the city region and increasing corporate participation in fundraising challenges, such as the annual Cycle for Smart Works challenge and payroll giving.
The time commitment for this voluntary, unpaid role is an average of 0.5 day per month, with more time given at busy periods of the year. There will be a requirement to sit on the Fund-Raising Sub-Committee, with meetings taking place every three months, and to attend Board meetings taking place every quarter.

General Duties of a Smart Works Trustee
- Work with the Chair of the Board of Trustees to ensure the centre is well-run and governed effectively.
- Provide support to determine the strategic direction of the Centre.
- Advocate for the Centre, raising its profile and the awareness of the Smart Works service in the geographic area.
- Build strong working relationships with the Chair, fellow trustees, staff, volunteers and supporters.
- Work in a small team and tailor strong interpersonal and communication skills to all levels of seniority.
Personal Specification
It is our vision that the successful applicant will have a strong network of corporate contacts across Manchester city and the wider city region and be able to leverage their skills to create, develop, and secure corporate partnerships and deliver the desired financial outcomes.
The Corporate Relationship Trustee will be expected to support the Fundraising and Partnerships Manager, and, where necessary, to liaise with the Smart Works Charity Corporate Partnerships team in London to ensure joined-up activities where contacts are national organisations.
As this is a voluntary, unpaid opportunity, it requires a self-starting and proactive approach with the capacity and time to challenge, engage and contribute to the work of the Board in a positive manner.

We also have an exciting calendar of fundraising events including our signature fashion sales and annual Fashion & Fizz events, where our wardrobe volunteers are responsible for curating amazing rails for our supporters to buy from and in turn raise vital funds for our service.
This opportunity would be perfect for anyone who has a passion for clothes and sees fashion as a force for good. Our wardrobe volunteers should have a meticulous eye for detail and a passion for organisation, as they will be involved in all things sorting and quality control.
We will be recruiting three to four wardrobe volunteers in Newcastle, who will be joining a busy and bustling community consisting of 5 staff members and over 40 volunteers.
Key Tasks
- Working as a team to create successful sorting systems.
- Sorting our incoming clothing donations for client wardrobe and sales.
- Rotating our wardrobe items seasonally and as new items come in.
- Maintaining our rails through steaming and sorting.
- Curating/pricing our fashion sale stock with our events calendar in mind.
- Administrative support with stock takes and inventories.
- Support with our fashion sale events.
Skills you should have
- Great attention to detail.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Work well as a part of the wider wardrobe and volunteer team.
- An awareness of fashion brands is desirable but not essential.

If you have a passion for fashion (especially second-hand), amazing customer service skills and you are keen to learn new skills, then this opportunity is for you. As a volunteer you will also be involved in receiving, sorting, steaming, and pricing our lovely donations, serving at the till, and using your creativity to create displays around the shop. Training will be provided. As a volunteer, you will be helping to raise money for the Octavia Foundation and support the work we do in the local community.
