This is an exciting time for Working Chance as we start developing our new three-year strategy which will come into effect from 1 September. The new strategy will see us taking an ever bolder stance on speaking up for women with convictions, solidifying our position as a thought leader on how to improve the employment rate of these women, and moving into providing consultancy for employers seeking our guidance and input on their recruitment and employment practices.
We are looking for an inspiring and committed Chair of Trustees to lead our Board at this exciting point in our development. This is a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction of a highly respected and impactful charity, while championing a mission that addresses inequality, social justice and economic inclusion.
As Chair, you will work closely with the Chief Executive and fellow trustees to ensure strong governance, clear strategic focus, effective oversight and financial sustainability, while acting as an ambassador for Working Chance and its values. CARIS Families (registered charity name CARIS Camden, charity number 1121919) is a small frontline charity that runs support services for homeless children and their parents living in temporary accommodation hostels in the London Boroughs of Camden and Hackney.
Families can find themselves homeless for many reasons. They may be displaced as part of the refugee resettlement process. They may be fleeing domestic violence or suffering the fallout of relationship breakdown. They may have simply found themselves priced out of the rental market and lost their home as a result. With affordable housing and social tenancies increasingly scarce, many children and their parents live in this state of limbo for years on end. The hostel, in effect, becomes the childhood home, making ‘temporary accommodation’ anything but temporary.
CARIS Families' frontline mission is twofold: to improve families' day-to-day experiences while in temporary accommodation and to assist them to move out of homelessness as soon as possible. We improve day-to-day experiences by providing hostel-based services for families that put back opportunities for children to thrive and that support parental wellbeing. At the same time, we casework with parents to progress their housing case so the family can move on into a settled home as soon as possible. In 2025 we supported 108 families and 146 children with play and learning opportunities, school holiday activities, family support work, poverty relief work and housing casework.
In addition to our frontline work, we contribute data and learned experience from our frontline work to academic research and political campaigning with the aim of bringing about reform of harmful temporary accommodation practises, and we support our families to share their lived experience.
Our turnover in 2024 was £238,555, with the majority of our income coming from trust and foundation grants, of which 4 are multi-year grants. We do not currently receive any statutory funding. Please find out more on the Charity Commission website at: CARIS CAMDEN - 1121919
Current context
We currently have a board of eight trustees and would like to increase the capacity of the board to match our growth, as we expand our hostel reach, family casework and public profile in the campaigns arena.
We have a Director, a staff team of six and a small cohort of volunteers who deliver our services within the family hostels and further afield. We have a broad support base with the significant impact and value of work recognised by our partners.
Roles
We have completed a Trustees skill audit and the following areas were identified as priority skills and expertise needed to support the development of our work:

Expectations for Trustees
Trustees play a vital role in ensuring the charity is well‑governed, sustainable, and delivering meaningful impact. As a trustee, you will be expected to:

Attend all Trustees meetings. Currently this consists of four meetings per annum, which generally alternate between online delivery and in-person in central London.

Attend at least one session of delivery with our staff team each year.

Proactively contribute your particular area/s of knowledge, expertise and insight to board discussions and strategic decision-making processes.

Be willing to proactively engage in the development of CARIS Families on a three to five-year term.

Undertake an Enhanced DBS check and online Safeguarding Training course, both organised and funded by CARIS Families.

As we grow our digital presence, we're looking for a creative, organised intern to take the lead on our social media output and help us tell powerful stories to wider audiences.
Role Purpose
As our Social Media Intern, you'll own the day-to-day running of Lived Expert's social media channels — planning content, scheduling posts, and helping build a consistent, impactful online presence. You'll work with the team to develop a content calendar organised around monthly themes (e.g. addiction, housing, abuse, neurodiversity) and create storyboards that bring our work to life across platforms. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who's passionate about social impact and wants hands-on experience building a social media operation from the ground up.

We're looking for someone who is:
- Social media savvy — you understand how different platforms work and what makes content perform well.
- Creative and organised — able to plan ahead with a content calendar while producing quality posts consistently.
- Comfortable with tools — experienced with (or eager to learn) scheduling platforms, HubSpot, Canva, Google Workspace/Microsoft 365, and basic analytics.

Responsibilities:
Website:
- Developing and maintaining website (currently Wix)
- SEO and analytics
Social media:
- Technical support for development of presence on Instagram, Facebook
- Support for Fundraising and Communications Manager in development of presentation
Technical oversight:
- Ensure and advise on security
- Ensure data protection compliance
- Advise on development of technical support for administration of the charity
Key Skills / Attributes:
- Strong interest in volunteering within the arts in the third sector
- Strong experience of website development and maintenance
- Knowledge of JavaScript, SQL useful
- Experience in use of social media for corporate communications
Likely to have had 3 years plus relevant professional experience supporting corporate communications or marketing or similar disciplines.

Do you have experience in digital and social media? Can you help us improve our communications and raise the profile of the work we do?
We are seeking an expert, creative Volunteer Digital and Social Media Lead. You will help us promote our programmes supporting people in prison and young people at risk of entering the justice system, as well as our Community Bike Shop, which funds and strengthens this work.
What you’ll do:
• Design and schedule engaging posts, stories, and reels across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and more to grow our audience.
• Develop strategies for viral campaigns and collaborations to boost awareness and donations and share your expertise with our team.
• Analyse metrics (engagement, reach, growth) and refine tactics based on what resonates.
• Create eye-catching visuals using tools like Canva.
• Update our website as required and make suggestions for improvements.
• Work with our expert Trustee to consider how we can use online retail platforms to sell our refurbished bikes.
What we’ll provide:
· Creative freedom within agreed priorities and tone of voice.
· Access to the right tools plus shared photos, stories and impact stats.
· A named contact, light-touch sign-off, and occasional check-ins to remove blockers.
Time commitment: we’ll agree a realistic scope with the right volunteer based on their availability.

About us
UpCycle, works with individuals in prisons and young people at risk in marginalised communities. We use bicycle maintenance workshops to help build life skills, enhance employability, prevent offending and reoffending, and foster social reintegration. We also offer lead rides, bike fit-it sessions and other ways to engage with vulnerable people.
In prisons
· We delivered 956 un-refurbished bikes and received back 768 refurbished bikes across eight prisons and one Young Offenders Institution, training over 238 individuals.
In the Community
· Over 1034 bikes were donated to our Community Bike Shop, of those we refurbished and distributed more than 612 to underserved communities locally and overseas.
· Workshops in Bradford engaged 361 participants in diverse cycling-related activities across the area.
· "Bike to the Future" and other initiatives reached 220 young people with more complex needs.

Tell My Truth and Shame the Devil C.I.C. exists to confront and expose the realities of childhood sexual abuse (CSA), centre survivor truth and accountability, support young people into economic empowerment, and build community-owned, open-source systems that replace silence with structure, care, and collective power. We exist to tell the truth, build systems that protect people, and mobilise communities at scale. The Founding Volunteer Social Media Director is a critical leadership role at the heart of this work.
The Purpose of This Role
The Social Media Director is responsible for shaping and leading the organisation’s entire social media vision, strategy, and execution during its foundational phase. This role exists to transform truth into reach, values into visibility, and community work into collective momentum — without diluting integrity.
You will lead the creation of a decentralised, high-volume, values-aligned content ecosystem that empowers ambassadors, volunteers, and community members to speak, share, and act with clarity and purpose.
This is about building infrastructure for voice — not chasing virality for its own sake.
Experience Qualification and Requirements
Essential Technical Competencies:
- Experience leading social media strategy, content creation or community engagement, ideally in start-up, non-profit or mission-driven contexts.
- Set and own the CIC’s social media vision aligned to its mission, safeguarding principles and 2026 goals
- Collaborate with Fundraising, Membership, Safeguarding and Digital teams to ensure ethical, effective campaigns
- Track record of translating values, purpose or community work into compelling, authentic digital content.
- Design a scalable, decentralised content strategy across platforms
- Work with open-source digital systems to ensure efficiency and accessibility
Desirable:
- Experience building and managing multi-channel social media ecosystems or networks of contributors.
- Comfortable working in a volunteer capacity [until paid roles are introduced]
- Experience leading social media strategy, content creation, or community engagement, ideally in start-up, non-profit, or mission-driven contexts.
- Establish governance, standards, and culture from the ground up.
- Act as a values carrier and leadership presence within the organisation
- Commitment to maintaining integrity, authenticity, and values-first communication.
- Oversee content workflows: creation → approval → storage → distribution → analysis
Qualifications:
- Deep understanding of social media platforms, trends, analytics and tools.
- Ability to balance creative experimentation with strategic planning.
- Passion for mission-driven work and amplifying authentic community voices.
- Familiarity with decentralised or collaborative content strategies is a plus.
