Every community across the UK deserves equitable access to trees and the benefits they bring; from reducing air and noise pollution, alleviating stress and anxiety, making our neighbourhoods more attractive places to live and work, and boosting local ecosystems. However, while some urban areas enjoy abundant greenery and tree cover, others lack these essential natural assets. Our new Tree Equity Score tool, developed in partnership with American Forests, has been developed to help us understand where disparities in urban tree cover lie.

Now we need your help to collect data from remote urban areas across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland to complete our map of tree equity across the UK. Between February – May 2024, we need your help to complete over 500 tree canopy cover assessments. Do as many or as few as you like, pick any available location from our list, and complete the assessment at a time that suits you - they only take around 1.5 hours to complete. Send us your findings by the end of this project and we will add them to our database. No specialist technical knowledge is needed and guidance is provided.

This is a 'Drop-in-Days' volunteering opportunity for people that lead busy lives, or that just want to volunteer ad-hoc or for a one-off event or project. Registering to take part in this project will provide you with access to our volunteer news and we will let you know about other volunteering opportunities in your area for up to to 12 months after the initial event. The Alice Ruggles Trust was established in 2017 after the death of Alice following a tragic stalking case perpetrated by her ex-boyfriend.  The Alice Ruggles Trust is a charity that educates young people under 25 about stalking; it is our mission to foster generations of young people who understand stalking, the potential risks of stalking, and what they can do about it.

People & Planet is looking for volunteers to assist with compiling its 2024/25 People & Planet University League; the only higher education ranking that classifies based on ethics and climate justice criteria.

Universities impart skills and knowledge, form life-long beliefs and behaviours, act as centres of communities, employ, house and feed large numbers of people and promote the creation and sharing of knowledge. We believe this makes them uniquely placed to lead on environmental and ethical issues. For this reason the People & Planet University League has been running since 2007 and has been published by high-profile media partners such as The Guardian and the Sunday Times Good University Guide eco-rating.

Volunteers will research publicly available university documents and assess universities against our marking criteria, which cover a wide range of climate and social justice issues including decarbonisation, fossil fuel divestment, ethical banking, workers’ rights and environmental management among others. This work will help to incentivise the university sector towards taking immediate and appropriate action on the climate crisis and upholding the rights and wellbeing of all people internationally.

The role will develop and improve the following areas:

Training is provided for the role. Are you passionate about changing the way we treat animals? Do you want to help reduce damage to our environment? Do you want to get people to enjoy healthy vegan food that looks good and tastes great? 

The Vegan Society makes veganism more accessible and an easily adopted approach by supporting individuals, policy and decision makers, caterers, manufacturers, health care professionals and the media. 

Why do we need you? 

Our website covers a huge range of topics, aimed to support people in becoming, and staying, vegan. Keeping all of these up to date takes a lot of hours and many hands, especially when it comes to pages that need regular updates involving sourcing and editing images, improving accessibility, and updating content.

What does the role involve? 

The role will involve a variety of different tasks in updating the website such as: 

• Assisting the web team with content migration for the society’s new website.
• Adding and updating the events page, which will include editing images and proofreading content for the page. 
• Reviewing and fixing pages with broken links. 
• Publishing and updating recipes on our recipes page. 
• Supporting with accessibility improvements to the site such as adding alt tags to images. 
• Undertaking search engine optimisation tasks, such as identifying key search terms and popular pages we could develop. 
• More advanced web editing and development tasks may be offered to volunteers depending on their skillset and level of experience. 

We expect that tasks will be assigned based on your experience and confidence in the area, with full support from the Web Officer. This would all happen in software we provide. Our website CMS currently is Drupal; however, we will be moving over to Umbraco soon, so you would become familiar with this.

What training and development is available? 

Each task will be introduced in a phased way, with a full induction and training session on each area. We will provide training for specific areas, based on your existing experience. There are opportunities for all our roles to develop and to take on more responsibility.

What skills would be useful in doing this role? 

• Familiarity with content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal or Umbraco would be an ideal foundation for this role.

 What does my availability have to be?

  Exam Star Learner is an educational charity. We are on a mission to address the lack of access to personalised learning support for underprivileged youth. We are looking for a Social Media Manager to help us drive the awareness of and engagement with our work promoting a fairer future for football. We're thrilled to share that Fair Game has experienced incredible growth recently, and we're on the brink of making a significant impact. As a volunteer-driven initiative, we're on the lookout for an enthusiastic individual eager to contribute to Fair Game's communications goals. 

This volunteer position is a fantastic chance for someone keen on gaining insights into the football industry and expanding their connections, setting the stage for a promising career in social media with a sporting slant. Main Responsibilities

You would be essential in monitoring the industry news, promoting Fair Game initiatives via our social channels and helping us respond to any queries quickly and efficiently. You will be responsible for the following tasks:

 

• Monitor the sports news and social media looking for opportunities for Fair Game to join the conversation 

• Work with communications, other members of the social team and designers to produce high quality, engaging content for a range of audiences

• Highlight the great work done throughout out the organisation to relevant social audiences

• Contribute to social strategy, shaping our approach and bringing best practice to our social media initiatives

• Responding to online conversations in an efficient and engaging manner

• Work closely with the social media team to ensure that Fair Game is engaging and reacting to women’s football stories breaking online.

• To attend weekly 30 min meetings with the Heads of the Communications team.

We’re passionate about making the countryside a better place for everyone to enjoy. This flexible, micro-volunteering role is a great way to stand up for the countryside if you don’t have much time to spare! You’ll take easy online actions to support our campaigns from home (or wherever you have internet access!) at a time that suits you.

We're particularly keen to recruit people aged 18 - 30 (although this is open to everyone!) based across England as we want to bring younger voices into our campaigning work. In the run up to the 2024 General Election, it’s now more important than ever that we amplify your voices in our campaigning work.

By taking simple online actions, you’ll help champion environmental issues including the climate emergency, countryside next door, the green belt and affordable rural housing.

We’ll ask you to take and feedback on campaigning actions, to inform what we do in the future. Your ideas will shape the way we campaign in the future.

We’re looking to build a team of activists to take up to 6 actions in the run up to the General Election (depending on when exactly the election is called). • An interest in the countryside and environmental issues
• Willing to give feedback as part of the role, as this is a test
• Access to a computer, tablet or smartphone with internet
• No experience necessary!

Join our amazing volunteer team to raise awareness of sight loss and RNIB services at local events. You will give talks in person or virtually, sharing your own story to improve understanding of sight loss to local service providers and community groups. You’ll be making a real difference to people living with sight loss by helping to improve accessibility and inclusivity, creating a world without barriers. What you’ll be doing: • Giving talks to groups of people to raise awareness of sight loss in your local community by sharing your story to audiences, for example, local businesses, community and voluntary groups. • Delivering talks to raise awareness of RNIB services as a trusted source of support for blind and partially sighted people • Representing RNIB as an Ambassador for the Community Connection service What you’ll gain from the role: • An opportunity to give something back. • A chance to build a strong community. • A sense of achievement through the difference you make. • A chance to be part of a team of like-minded people • An opportunity to develop and explore different roles with RNIB, including our internal job vacancies. Hekima is a small organization in Tanzania that promotes children rights, and youth through nurturing that enables children, families and communities in ending Violence Against Children (VAC). Hekima achieves this through community accountable where children and young youth demand their rights; strengthening child protection and participation systems and structures.

PROGRAMME SUPPORT

• We are looking for a Programme Support Volunteer to understand the organization and its programs; review the current strategic plan; prepare meetings with the team; prepare a logical framework; and, elp create a theory of change.
• Volunteer 4-6 hours per week for 3-4 weeks.
