About Street Storage
Street Storage is a new, ambitious and innovative homelessness charity. The first of its kind in the U.K., we provide free, accessible storage for people experiencing homelessness. Founded in 2019, we have grown exponentially and have developed a strong reputation in the sector and the homelessness community.
Title: Unit Volunteer
Reporting To: Service Manager
Principle Function: To aid the team in managing people’s storage in the service.
Expenses: For travel as necessary. Normally agreed in advance.
We require volunteers for the following shifts:
Monday: 09:30 - 16:30 - ad hoc
Tuesday: 09:30 - 16:30 - regular
Wednesday: 12:30 - 16:30 - regular
Thursday: 12:30 - 16;30 - ad hoc
Friday: 09:30 - 12:30 - regular
Duration: Ongoing, with at least a 6-month commitment.
Description: The role of Unit Volunteer will be to support the Referrals and Storage Coordinator in the running of the drop in service, including the following:

Storing and retrieving luggage, including tagging people's luggage when they first come in and recording taken and added folder.

Support the service’s efforts to maintain a clean and organised space for people who use the service and staff alike.

Ensure that all individuals are treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their background or circumstances.
Skills and/or qualifications and experience required:
-
Ability to recognise and respond calmly to tense or escalating situations, using effective de-escalation techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone.

Passion for the service and empathy for those who use it

Previous sector volunteering is desirable but not required
Training required and support offered:
-
Street Storage induction and training (including information provided on the history and mission of the charity/the service we provide/aims/objectives

You will receive support throughout your volunteering with the service.

We will aim to provide group Ian Bourne Aggressive Behaviour Training to develop skills working with and for a vulnerable client group
-
Volunteer supervisions every two months.
Please provide one reference, preferably from a previous professional or voluntary role.
We aim to (and do!) provide free, safe and accessible storage to people experiencing homelessness across the UK.
